A lakefront stay guests consistently rate 10/10 for comfort, setting, and value. Fishing, family, forest, and fun come together at Oak Hill Oasis, a peaceful lakefront retreat above the main channel of Kerr Lake in Clarksville, Virginia—the state’s only lakeside town. With a private swimming cove, floating dock, and wide lake views, it’s the kind of place where mornings are quiet, afternoons stretch on the water, and evenings end with sunset views and time well spent together.
Tucked on a quiet hill with its own secluded shoreline, the home offers a rare combination of privacy, accessibility, and comfort. A screened porch, lake-facing deck, and semi-enclosed outdoor shower make it easy to live outdoors, while inside you’ll find a spacious layout that works just as well for families as it does for groups of friends.
Originally an off-season hideaway for a well-known race car driver, the house blends classic knotty pine character and mid-century charm with thoughtful modern updates—clean, comfortable, and consistently exceeding expectations.
Wildlife is part of the experience here, with frequent sightings of herons, eagles, and even otters along the shoreline.

We had a wonderful time, the property was very clean and the layout was perfect. Beautiful view of the lake and the home was well appointed. I would definitely recommend this property to friends and family.
We decided to rent this place for our annual family vacation. The weather was absolutely horrible the whole weekend, so we were so thankful to have this beautiful accommodation to stay in. The back porch and view alone made the stay worthwhile. We finally got to drop the boats for a few hours on our third day, and the dock was very convenient and easy to use. We hope to stay here again in the future.
The pictures do not do the home justice as the place was better than we expected! From the outside to the inside, the comfort, the detail of items available in case you forgot something, to an incredibly stocked kitchen and others items needed for a stay on the lake, we were extremely impressed and thankful! One item to think about when renting here is access to the water. There are steps but without a railing, something the owner is working on but unfortunately has some red tape to go through with the govt agency who overseas the lake. We had to help some older folks up and down when used so just be cognizant of that. Truly a gem and well taken care of. Thanks David and Melanie! You have a wonderful home and have done a fantastic job of ensuring your guests have what they need!
This house and property is beautiful! Super clean. Owner was had all the extras if you forgot anything. Outstanding host!

About the host
Hosted by Jim
Our dear family friend, Jim, will serve as your host since we left the area several years ago to pursue jobs in Colorado. Jim is a US Army veteran who takes his grandkids fishing off our dock when it's not booked and is one of triplet siblings who are pillars of the Clarksville community (sister Aggie owns The Pizza Pub and Ann runs her own cleaning business). Jim's a wealth of information about the area and we know you'll enjoy working with him as much as we do!
Why they chose this property
Around 2014, we were looking for a quick waterside family getaway from the Triangle area when we grew tired of the long trip to the beach. I recalled having gone to Kerr Lake on the NC side with my dad's family the summer before college, and had I fond memories of this massive lake that spanned the NC/VA border.
We fell in love with Clarksville–the town and its people–and this became a home away from home. Even living in Colorado today, we love coming back once each season to enjoy the peace and quiet, as well as the colors of the deciduous forest that we miss out West. While there are properties on either side of the cove, they are old cabins from the 1950s and not currently in use. When we retire, we plan to spend a few months a year at the Oasis.
What makes this property unique
The deceptively secluded lot and cove is unique in being so close to downtown Clarksville but tucked away in the woods. You'll notice that we are on a hill between two drainages, the upstream one fed by an intermittent spring.
As a result, you can get a good workout just walking up and down our driveway loop without even leaving the property. The hill also gives the screened porch and deck a great view of the main channel of the lake all the way across to Buffalo Creek (and another slight workout with the steps to the beach and dock!). And our location about 4 miles from the confluence of the Dan and Staunton/Roanoke Rivers sends enough driftwood down the lake for plentiful bonfires after dark.
