Adirondack Mts. Lakefront Cabin with Hot Tub on Lake Algonquin, Wells , NY.
This cabin was built in the 1920's and slowly over the years came to be a true Adirondack beauty. As you drive down Griffin Road you come to 128 where you will see a nicely kept lawn and a beautiful rock wall surrounding the cabin. A recently added covered porch with large cedar columns adds to the outside beauty. You'll pull in the driveway to the rear entrance and enter up a few stairs to a lovely sunroom that is furnished with a pullout futon that can sleep 2 comfortably. You then enter the main cabin and to the left is the bathroom that has a granite boulder carved out to a sink and la led lightes shower. The stand up/sit down shower has bluetooth and radio so you can listen to your favorite music. When you look straight ahead is a large Elmira cookstove and matching refrigerator. Designed to resemble the cookstoves in many of the historic Adirondack Camps this stove is fully operational with 2 ovens and a warming oven. The cabinets in the kitchen were hand made by my dad in the mid 70's. My great grandfather was a stone mason as you see the large fieldstone fire place that goes from the p to the ceiling. On the right is a granite countertop with an adjacent food bar with actual original hand hewn beams from the Orr Farm on the other side of lake jAlgonquin. You will notice as you enter the living room many animal mounts of the native animals of the Adirondacks. The bear came from Mt. St. Helens in Washington State and the deer are from the mountains out of the back door. You'll see the bobcat on the front of the fireplace that are plentiful around wells. The sunroom as we call it has a queen size couch that can sleep 2. Looking back in the main living room you will see two doors to the first floor bedrooms. The right door is the main bedroom with a queen pine bolstered bed with the best most comfortable Serta Perfect sleep pillow top mattress set money can buy. To the left of the room you will notice the private sliding glass door entrance that opens up to the Hot Tub When you look back toward the entrance you will see the 45 inch flat screen TV. The master bedroom has roku which your welcome to move around the house to watch other TV's. The other first floor bedroom has a queen size bed and can accommodate two adults or a few children. The Cedar log stairs to the loft are a bit steep so be watchful. There is a counter balanced hatchway leading to the loft which has a super soft mattress and will sleep 2 adults comfortably. There is a single bed on one side of the loft for sleeping as well. Its best to go down the stairs backward and then look around the living room to see a 65" smart TV that has Netflix. The porch's view speaks for itself just sit down look around and enjoy. The 6 person fire table makes the night come alive as you watch the flames dance. There is a weber gas grill and an outdoor couch. The Team Menace Bar as its called is a great place to sit at in the morning while you sip your coffee or at night while you enjoy the view. The Newfoundland Moose mount up above give you the mountain feeling. The antler chandelier over the deck and bar inside were hand made by a Vietnam era Navy Seal from Schroon Lake out of antler sheds found in Wells. The Moose horns are from Maine. Go down the front stairs and to the right straight ahead is the basement Arcade There is a shuffle board bowling game and a pinball machine (currently off line). Down the driveway and across the road is a path that leads to lake with a stairs and dock with some notice can accommodate boats jet skis kayaks or party barge should you wish to bring. (With prior notice) Life in the Adirondacks couldn't be better than at Camp Menace.. Gore Mt is awesome for a great day of skiing only 19 miles to the east on route 8. Oak Mt is a great place for a family as it has skiing and a tubing park that is 10 miles to the North . Camp Menace is located on the main artery of snowmobile trails where riding is limitless from beginner to the expert. Deer, bear and every wild game imaginable are literally in the back yard. It's a perfect retreat for all facets of hunting. Turkey hunting in spring starts May 1 and the big toms can be heard on many mornings right from the back door. Lake Algonquin is stocked with Brown trout which provide summer long action. Numerous other species such as small and large mouthbass as well as perch and pickerel are plentiful. Only your imagination can guide you to the activities available all from the back door. Please treat our house as you would if you were spending a night with your relatives. It is our home and not to be treated as a motel room on spring break. Ask yourself how would I treat my grandmothers home. It's not a motel with a repair staff it's a 100 year old mt lakeside home. There is an outdoor camera mounted on front porch that looks out only! Thank you! FYI propane runs the fire table and gas grill and is not provided depending on how much the prior guests use may or may not be full. It is sold at both stores in town and is not provided by owner. The Hot Tub is working great!!!!y

We loved this cabin! It was perfect and clean and even the family members who rented cabins around the lake chose to hang out at ours because it was cleaner and spacious yet cozy. Perfect lakeside getaway.

Thanks Katie you guys were great come back anytime
We had such a great visit here! It was very relaxing and beautiful. We saw deer multiple times a day. The host was also very responsive. We'd love to book again.
It was absolutely everything we were looking for, and everything it claimed to be, in a weekend away with the boys. Would definitely scoop this up again in the future as an excellent getaway that's not to far removed from the rest of civilization.
It was great Dana the owner was a great guy and very helpful. We loved this place it was very cozy and all the taxidery was so kool. The jaccuzzi was a big hit. The front porch was amazing to sit on at night with the family. If we go back to that area again we will stay here for sure
Lovely historic cabin with stunning craftsmanship! Tranquil lake view, incredible deck area! The hosts were incredibly warm and welcoming, available for anything we needed, and went above and beyond to make our stay amazing! The hottub was very well kept and super relaxing. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and cookware. We would love to stay again in the future.
Very nice and very quiet. My mom would have said we were in the sticks. Beautiful lake with dock. Only downside was no cell coverage at all. Wifi worked great.

Nice decor
Property was nice but smaller then expected. Bedrooms are very small and loft is hard to access for older adults.
This place was amazing. Huge covered deck was our hang out due to rain almost our entire 3 day stay but it was awesome to have that outdoor space. The covered hot tub was awesome as well. The only disappointment was the game room was not what it seemed. It’s located in the basement and was dam and mildew smell due to the rain. The loft area was very tight and very low ceiling leading to the full sized bed up there.
Dana was an amazing host! Always very prompt with any questions/concerns.

DECK PARTY
We absolutely loved loved loved the front Deck that is where we literally spent the entire weekend. I was a little disappointed that he pictures did not share the front of the property in VRBO or did not share the size of the bedrooms this is a very small property and listing says it would sleep 10 there is no way. Only children and teenagers can sleep up in the loft noway adults should be going up there.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay! The location was perfect and we were able to relax and unwind. Our kids even said it was the best vacation. A few things to note - what is posted online in the listing is not accurate. There is no dishwasher, if I had known that I would have brought paper plates! The checkout time online is 11 am but crossed out in the book at the house and is actually 10 am. The BEACH IS CLOSED on Tuesdays and Wednesdays - that information should be included in the listing of the house. Bring a small fan - the loft space gets very hot and only one window has a screen and there is no fan up there. The owner was very kind and responsive to our texts. However, there were two major issues while we were there and he did not provided any viable solutions. The refrigerator and freezer stopped working, we had to throw food away and move what we could save to coolers which meant buying multiple bags of ice. Dana was apologetic and I understand completely that he could not find a repair man during the season - but he did not offer a solution. He could have offed to buy us ice, use of another cooler etc. The septic tank backed up as well - there was raw sewage coming from under the toilet in the bathroom and there was a large puddle of it in the backyard. Dana again was apologetic but it negatively impacted our vacation and he did not offer any money back for the inconvenience of both issues. We are unsure if we will be back.

Unfortunately there are those that overlook all the fun and dwell on any minor inconvenience that may arise. The refrigerator issue is suspect as it’s worked and performed as it should all summer and is checked before and after a guest arrives and leaves. I have 8 guests that came hours after your departure and haven’t complained about anything. As far as the beach goes it never closes. There’s just no life guards on duty tues and weds but it’s still available. The sewage as you described it is grey water that the system expels when it’s over used with 8 people constantly using shower and dishes that’s what happens FYI a whole new septic system is in the works. There is no dishwasher and is clearly stated in the houses amenities there is none. We provide dish soap a sponge drying towels and rack. I have had almost 200 bookings and only a handful of complaints and it’s always in an effort to get a refund as was clearly stated your intentions were. I’m happy your kids thought it was there best vacation ever as that is where our prioritiesl lie

Be prepared!
Pulling up to property was not what we expected. We expected it to be more secluded and on the water. To access water and amenities for the water you had to use the property managements yard and dock across the street. Your instructed to access the the house in the rear of property. That was up some stairs and at the top of the landing you had to push pulled up trash bags that had been there a while. We never used that door again because there was too much there. Once in the house, it could have been a lot cleaner. Your paying a cleaning fee for a reason. Amenities that are list, not as they are. Dishwasher has been broken for a while. Nothing there to do the dishes by hand. The game room they offer, not working. The mold and mildew and smell down there would make you sick. Even if it was clean they don’t tell you to bring quarters. The hot tub the first night wasn’t prepared for use. It wasn’t working and once we did you it, the amount of chlorine in it burned your lungs. The spa in the bathroom, well that could use a good power wash. Not clean. Nothing provided in the bathroom except towels. If I haven’t said it yet, you need to bring EVERYTHING to this property. The rest of the house was dirty of dust and cobwebs in every animal you see in the pics. (Above the stove a skunk full of dust) who wants to cook looking at how dirty it is??!
The whole situation was uncomfortable. I really think the Vrbo ad needs a revamping for this property.

Obviously you didn’t read the property description. The house is over 100 years old and not built specifically to be a rental as maybe you had in past. This has been my family’s cabin and has been used by hundreds of guests that appreciate going to mountains and experiencing nature. I explained to you when you arrived 3 hours early the issue with cobwebs and showed you the cobweb brush we use on a daily basis. There is no chamber maids or room service so I would recommend staying in a hotel next time you wish to go away. The bathroom spa was scrubbed before your stay personally by me and the description specifically indicates the only things provided are towels. As far as the game room goes nothing required quarters The hot tub is checked and maintained daily. You complained that it wouldn’t heat up so I showed you the touchpad to turn on.
About the host
Hosted by Dana J Beyer
Being a native Adirondacker my great grandfather built the main cabin in the early 1920's. I have spent the majority of my life enjoying what Wells and the Adirondack resources have to offer. As you can see inside the camp I'm a hunter and fisherman. Trout are abundant in the lake as are deer and bear in the adjacent woods. I have recently purchase a few other pieces of property nearby and wish to see others enjoy the camp as I have for over 50 years.
Why they chose this property
This property is unique in that it holds the character of the great camps of the Adirondacks. The amenities are endless from a game room to the hot tub.
