About Frances Higgins
My name is Frances and I am from Ireland, and have been living in Cyprus for the past 20 years. I've been living with my husband in Kritou Terra village for the last 10 years now, and simply can't imagine living anywhere else!
Frances Higgins purchased this Farmhouse in 2004
Why Frances Higgins chose Kritou Tera
It took me over 4 years of searching to find this particular house. Most of the traditional Cypriot village houses are built very close to each other with no gardens or at most only a small yard. So this house was unique in that it has no immediate neighbours, and it had plenty of space to add a pool in the garden, while still being an authentic traditional Cypriot village house.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
Peace and quiet, no traffic and seclusion are some of the unique features of this property. Surrounded by fields, nature walks are only a step from the garden gate. However I fell in love with the house because of it's charming character - natural stone walls, bamboo and wooden ceilings, Greek-style blue windows and shutters, and quirky little touches such as stable doors and alcoves in the walls.

If you are looking for peaceful, relaxing, “get away from it all” location for your holiday in Cyprus then this is it! The villa is a traditional Cypriot cottage but has everything you need including plenty of towels and beach towels, microwave, toaster, coffeemaker, cool box, washing machine, dishwasher, air conditioning in the bedroom as well as a mosquito net( which came in handy!). The pool is fabulous and is maintained twice weekly.Frances, the owner meets you at the airport and is very welcoming , the use of her 4x4 is another welcome addition for the holiday as a vehicle is a must. There is a large supermarket in Polis which is approx. 12 miles away as well as a bakery and numerous cafes and restaurants. Latchi is another nearby resort and is more “ tourist “ orientated with seaside cafes and boat tours. Our favourite places to eat out were in Kathikas, approx 4 miles away where you can find more traditional Cypriot cuisine. Our only regret was that we didn’t visit the waterfall in Kritou Tera and try the local tavern in the village but we will save that for next time! This villa ticked all the boxes for us so we will definitely be back!
at last we found the real cyprus
if like us your looking for privacy, peace & quiet, and good pool in a traditional village then this sensitively restored stone house ticks all the boxes. It may not have the latest high end household equipment but everything works fine and serve to make it feel even more homely and frances and khalil are superb hosts. This experience was a joy and will be hard to beat
Wonderful holiday in Cyprus
What a lovely first visit to Cyprus, made all the more enjoyable by the helpfulness of Frances and Kahlil. To be met at the airport late at night after a long flight and then driven to the villa was wonderful, as was finding the well stocked fridge and welcome basket. What a difference not to have the usual stress of sorting out a hire car and finding food essentials on arrival!
The villa was as lovely as the photographs and the pool was just heavenly. The Wifi signal was better than at home (very important with a teenager in tow!) We loved the peaceful village setting and, with Tabitha the cat keeping us company, it really felt like a home from home. The car, though not in the first flush of youth, was ideal for exploring across the Akamas pennisula and into the Troodos mountains. Kathikas, nearby, was very good for restaurants, especially The Farmyard where both service and menu were excellent. There is just so much to see and do - we simply ran out of time.
The villa is super and I would highly recommend this lovely holiday home. Frances could not have been more attentive and was always there at the end of the phone to sort out any problems that might have arisen or if you needed advice. It was definitely one of the most relaxing holidays we've ever had. Thank you so much.
Second visit, just as good as before!
Amazing villa, well equipped with all you should need. Perfect for unwinding, very quiet and with privacy. Pool was fantastic, as was the car which comes in with the price. You'll find it hard to leave the villa though! Frances and kahlil are very knowledgable of the surrounding area, offering good advice on local villages/restaurants etc. We shall be back again!
The farmhouse lies in the traditional rural village of Kritou Terra, which is on the Laona plateau close to the Akamas National Park at the western tip of the island of Cyprus. It is only a short 10-minute drive to Polis town and the beaches of Polis & Latchi. The famous tourist resort and sandy beaches of Coral Bay are a 20-minute drive away, and Pafos town with its shops and buzzing night life is a 30-minute drive away. An excellent selection of tavernas & pubs can be found in the nearby villages and in Polis.
The Laona plateau boasts a wide variety of landscapes from coastal to hill country, to valleys and open plains. Guests interested in seeing the Spring flowers should visit between the beginning of March and the end of May. The main bird migrations, when a wide variety of species may be seen, take place in Spring and Autumn. The Troodos mountains, which reach to 2000 metres, and Paphos forest (home of the moufflon, the island's indigenous mountain sheep) are about one hour's drive away. The perfect spot for hiking, hillwalking and birdwatching.
