Lovely cottage in Chianti, on Tuscan organic ecoturismo with pool & sunset views
Podere Patrignone is a beautiful old 15th Century estate ('podere') which has been lovingly and tastefully restored. It is working organic olive farm providing it's own power, hot water and heat from renewable sources. Patrignone is set on top of it's own hill reached by a long, winding private road that ends at Patrignone.
It is set in 150 acres of forest, olives and vines, with uninterrupted 360 degree views over the Tuscan hills and valley below.
It's the perfect setting for peaceful walks, sunbathing, cycling and exploring. It has a lovely pool with one of the best vistas in Tuscany. Wake up to the mists rising through the trees and the beautiful views of surrounding vineyards, or catch an amazing sunset over the towers of San Gimignano and the snow-capped Apennines on the horizon.
We are 10 minutes away from San Donato, a similar distance from Castellina in Chianti, 40 minutes from the centre of Florence, 30 minutes from Siena, San Gimignano, Panzano, and Greve and around 90 minutes from Pisa Airport.
It is divided into five self-contained apartments plus the Villa, all beautifully furnished in a traditional style. The main Villa can be rented as a whole (7 en-suite doubles) or you may rent individual rooms for short stays on a B&B basis.
Il Forno is a cosy cottage apartment sited where the old bakery used to be for the farmers and their workers - hence the name. It has been transformed into the loveliest 1-bedroom ground-floor apartment with views over our olive trees and the forests and vineyards beyond.
You have your own out-door space that you can use for your al-fresco breakfast in the sun, and is still complete with its original oiled chestnut beams and terracotta tiles.
There is an open plan kitchen, dining area and living space, and a small but functional bathroom with w/c, shower and basin. It also has its own antique terracotta wood-burning stove for those autumn evenings if it gets a bit chilly.
This cottage apartment is very picture-postcard Tuscan, quite small, but well-proportioned, and is a favourite with our family and friends who come to stay.

Location
Patrignone is right in the middle of Chianti, at the epicentre of Tuscany's cultural treasures, just 10 minutes from the beautiful hill-top town of Castellina in Chianti, with its full compliment of restaurants, cafés and shops (and a small supermarket). We're surrounded by some of the most amazing wineries. Siena is just 35 minutes away, and Florence 40 minutes in the other direction, San Gimignano is 30 mins away, with Volterra the next village along. You really couldn't pick a more central location. There's no doubt that you'll need a car to get the most of Chianti's nooks and crannies, but if you feel like venturing further afield, within a 1.5-hour drive you'll find white sandy beaches, typically beautiful seaside resorts, dozens of hot springs, and the majesty of the snow-covered Apennines, clearly visible from Patrignone's terracotta terrace. And if you're into cycling, tennis, golf, ballooning or fishing, these activities and more can easily be organised. Just let us know what your interests are, and we'll give you some options.
Dinner at Patrignone
A four-course evening meal can be prepared and served, either in the Frantoio Dining Room or out on the Terracotta Terrace, weather permitting, for 40€/head including wine. Please make your requirements known at least 7 days prior to arrival, though ad-hoc arrangements can be made later, and we will always try to accommodate your wishes, if we can.
The Terracotta Terrace, pool & Koi pond
There is a large terracotta terrace with breathtaking sunset views across the valley towards the sparkling towers of San Gimignano the snowy peaks of Abetone. Guests often have their sunset drinks here, or take their evening meals here under the stars. The natural stone-tiled pool area is a tactful 50 metres from the house, and offers amazing sunset vistas, as well as the opportunity to watch the cheeky swallows having an evening dip in the pool. There are plenty of deck-chairs and sun-loungers, as well as umbrellas, the natural shade produced by trees surrounding the pool, and a shower. NB There is no pool supervision, so NO children under the age of 14 may use the pool unsupervised. The Koi pond is a peaceful landscaped area made up of a stone built circular pond, with a seating area. It is very quiet and is shaded by large trees. It is NOT a safe area for young children to roam unsupervised.

It was a pleasure have you as guests...and thank you for the coffee!
It was awesome. Its not the 5 Star Hotel. Its personal and super welcominging and down to earth. You just get honest Tuscany flair with very nice Hosts.
The property is off the beaten path. We had such a great time. It was such a good experience. You can unplug make a fire, relax and enjoy!. Very convenient. Located to so many different wineries and sites and locations

Dream come true!
My husband and I just spent 2 full weeks traveling throughout Italy and our favorite part was our stay here. The charm of the lodging was equalled by our charming hosts, Simon and Verity. Be sure and sign on for dinner- it was absolutely perfect. To top it all off, we miss Charlie and Lola, the adorable, well-behaved farm dogs. We will return!

Il Forno in Villa Patrignone
Enjoyed a lovely week at Villa Patrignone. Stayed in the charming Il Forno cottage, which was perfect for the two of us. The owners could not have been more gracious and hospitable. Came home with Simon's wonderful olive oil and memories of the best meal in Italy!

Anniversary in Tuscany
My wife and I (both of us are from the States) wanted a lovely anniversary in Tuscany but we were quite the novice travelers. We were looking for a property that would allow us to wonder the region on our own schedule, yet provide us with some...guidence... if we needed it. Patrignone was a perfect fit. We flew into Florence, downloaded the map of Tuscany on our Tom Tom, rented a very small car and started driving. Before we arrived, Simon sent us a PDF of information about the region that he woud do well to publish. Everything from turn by turn directions from the airport, to tips on driving in Italy, to where to plan to visit. We could not have asked for a more complete briefing of what to expect when we arrived.
When we checked in we found a century old olive plantation that was remarkably restored to a working farm, complete with one of the most hospitable familys you could find. If it makes a diffrence, Simon's native language is English, so if you are worried about a language barrier, there is none.
We were greeted with a bottle of chianti from a winery down the street, and a loaf of fresh bread. I can not say enough how beautiful and comfortable the cottage was that we stayed in. If you can imagine a perfect rustic Tuscan villa, this is it.
During our stay, Simon and his family were always available for questions about anything from where to find a Catholic church, to where to eat. They directed us to the best parts of Tuscany from a market in Panzano with a singing Butcher, to the Duoma in Siena with a violinist playing Ave' Maria.
Every part of our stay was perfect, it was the trip of a lifetime. I can not recommend them enough.

Wonderful retreat in heart of Chianti
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary in Italy. After a nonstop four days in Rome we arrived to a beautiful rustic cottage smack dab in the middle of olive groves and grapes all around. Podere Patrignone exceeded our expectations for a visit to Tuscany. Simon and Verity were excellent hosts - full of information and excellent recommendations and always willing to stop their work and chat. We felt welcome and cared for but free to do our own thing at all times. Our best meals during the stay were all fixed in our own kitchen topped only by Verit's fabulous meal midweek. Each day we pointed our car towards a different market for our evening feast and off we went exploring the villages and vineyards along the way. Lazy afternoons by the pool, wine and nibbles on the terrace at sunset, dinner by candlelight each night. And the wine! Your bottle will never be empty. For folks wanting a true Chianti experience without the crush of being jostled by hordes of tourists you must stay at Patrignone. We can't wait to return!
Logistics: it is off the beaten path. Always give yourself time to get lost and then found again. Bed very comfy. Bathroom small but oh so quaint. All furnishings chosen exactly to create the feeling of a timeless place.

Peaceful and Romantic Anniversary
My wife and I just enjoyed spending a week at Podere Patrignone, in the villa "La Tinaia", for our 10th Anniversary. Wonderful views of olive trees and vineyards from every angle. Simon and Verity are gracious hosts who have worked very hard at creating a warm, relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. Close to several very old and historic "castled" cities, as well as many fabulous family run wineries, there is lots to do in the surrounding area - or just relax by the pool, terrace or your own villa's verandah.

Podere Patrignone was outstanding!
My wife and I spent 4 days at Podere Patrignone this fall on a vacation from the United States. We had an amazing time! We stayed in a small, cozy one-bedroom apartment which was wonderful - great little place with a comfy bed, a small kitchen, and a wood-burning stove for warmth. The owners went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable and easy with tips and suggestions, and their olive oil was outstanding. The best part was the location: we spent 4 days driving around Chianti and Tuscany - pretty much heading out a different direction each day from the Podere. When we return to Italy, I am sure we'll be staying at the Podere Patrignone again!

Charming with gracious hosts, beautiful grounds, lots of walks.
This cottage is perfect for two people. We traveld to so many different towns in Chianti with this as our base. Since we were there in the late fall, we used our fireplace every night, had one dinner cooked by our host couple, and took many walks and wine tastings virtually right in the "hood."
I would recommend the cottage to people wanting a small and friendly and charming home in Chianti.

Patrignone is an absolute...
Patrignone is an absolutely wonderful place to stay!
My 16 year old son and I spent 4 nights here in
early July in the Il Forno apartment. The
proprietors, Simon and Verity, their children and
pets will all make you feel at home. The setting of
this Tuscan farm is simply stunning (to get an idea,
see the pictures posted on the establishment's
main website). Patrignone's location provided a
great home base for exploring various parts of
Tuscany (we put 500 miles on our rental car in the
4 days) with day trips to Sienna/Chianti,
Volterra/San Gimignano and San Galgano/Piensa). Il
Forno was very comfortable and well appointed for
1-2 people. We greatly enjoyed a catered dinner
one of the evenings and don't forget to take home
some of the wonderful organically grown olive oil. I
highly recommend Patrignone as a place to stay
during a visit to Chianti region of Tuscany.
About the host
Hosted by Simon Zimbler
Simon Zimbler - owner, manager, olive farmer. 'I live and work on our family’s olive oil Agriturismo in the heart of Chianti with my wife Verity and our three children. We moved to Italy in 2007 to take over the business founded over 25 years ago by my Italian mother. I'm a keen cook, I love wine, and I have an extensive knowledge of the restaurants and wineries around here. For 7 months of the year my main job is to help and advise our guests and to make sure they make the most of their time in Tuscany. The rest of my time is devoted to my beloved olives, and to making sure my extra virgin olive oil is the envy of our neighbours. And there’s always time for a swim with the kids in the pool.' Verity spends much of her time tending her organic 'orto' (vegetable garden), cooking her 4 course weekly banquets for guests, preparing fresh loafs of bread for new arrivals, looking after our chickens and dogs and boys! Verity sources all of our food from local producers and will be more than happy to share her top shopping tips.
Why they chose this property
My mother moved to the UK when she was 14, but always vowed to move back to her native country at some point. She started looking for a suitable 'project' in Tuscany in the early 80's, and finally settled on Patrignone on 1985. And who wouldn't! She picked Patrignone because she wanted somewhere completely isolated, not overlooked by neighbours, and with a private road not used by anyone else. And, of course, she fell in love with Patrignone's amazing sunset views.
Simon & Verity work hard to make this a home from home and you will be greeted with a welcome pack containing freshly baked bread, local cheese and sliced meats, fruit, tea & coffee, salt & pepper, a bottle of local organic Chianti and our own organic olive oil.
We have lots of knowledge about the local area and will be happy to help advise you on places to visit and to eat at.
What makes this property unique
Well, it really is very beautiful here. You can offset the carbon you have used to get here as we are 'carbon positive', getting our power, hot water and heating from the sun and our woods. We're surrounded on all sides by cypress trees, vineyards, and our olive groves. We're on top of our own hill so we have the most amazing views as far as the Apennines. So it's very peaceful and quiet here, and yet we are perfectly situated, just 45 mins from Florence, 35 mins from Siena and surrounded by beautiful hill-top Tuscan towns, the nearest of which is Castellina in Chianti, just 10 minutes away, and well-stocked with shops, bars, excellent restaurants, a brilliant butcher and a good supermarket.
