We had a great stay at the schoolhouse! Joanne had provided for everything including personalized welcome treats that were much appreciated! We whole heartedly recommend this beautiful place for any PEC vacations.
Joanne has thought of everything to make you feel welcome the minute you step inside this charming home. Super clean and well stocked, comfy beds and great communications. We loved our stay in PEC and will definitely return. Thanks so much!
Our stay at Joanne's schoolhouse was very comfortable and convenient. The car charger out front was a great feature, as were the many wireless phone chargers throughout the place. We were very close to the Sandbanks beaches and several small towns to do our shopping and sightseeing. Check-in was simple, and the check-out list was very manageable. Joanne was also very quick to respond to our questions when they arose.
Lovely week at the school house to celebrate our mom’s 75th birthday. Our two families were very comfortable and our springer spaniel took full advantage of nonstop fetch in the back field. The recommendation from our host to check out Point Petre was very appreciated and we preferred the quiet local beach well above the craziness of sandbanks. Will definitely consider another stay here in the future.
The Schoolhouse was exactly as advertised. Spotlessly clean, comfortable bed with quality linens, quiet and peaceful location. Joanne was very easy to communicate with and provided us with numerous recommendations. We would definitely recommend this listing!

Thanks Cathy! You were a true pleasure to host. We’d love to see you back here any time.
Enjoyed our stay in the county - cottage is in a great location, close to all kinds of places to visit and things to do. Very comfortable and homey. Only drawback is the location close to the highway and gravel road which had regular traffic. Otherwise, was a nice stay.

Jim,
Glad you enjoyed your stay. I am sorry that the proximity to the County Road 24 was a problem. Increased traffic during the summer months can be an issue throughout the county. Hopefully the scenery and farmers fields offset any road traffic for you, a bit at least. Enjoy the rest of your summer.
We had an excellent stay at the Old Schoolhouse. The house was very well stocked with everything we could have wanted in the kitchen. We felt very welcomed into the home, including our furry friend who joined us, and we enjoyed the history of the place. The location encouraged us to explore parts of the County that we had not had the opportunity to see before.
We loved our stay at the cottage. It was quiet like we wanted and we had everything we needed. The cottage was so copy.
Johanne was very nice and she answered very quickly When we needed. She is a great host!
Thank you!

Elegant & charming old schoolhouse countryside property
The schoolhouse is a beautiful property well-situated for all of the area activities but a quiet place to relax after a day at the beach. Large grounds with a vegetable garden, dining inside or out on the deck, watching the sunset & later stargazing before retiring to comfortable, well appointed bedrooms. A big plus was the pass to Sandbanks.

So glad you enjoyed your stay! You were a pleasure to host and we'd welcome you and your family back anytime.
The host, Joanne, was very attentive in advance of our stay. On arrival, every welcoming touch you could imagine -made us feel well-taken-care-of and at home. Lovely cosy bedrooms, family size dining table, outdoor eating and seating area, quiet property. Even the dogs were left treats and equipment. I wish we could have stayed longer, but we hope to return.

So glad you had a nice stay Donna! You and your friends are welcome back any time.
Joanne was a fantastic host, the house had everything you could need! The property is beautiful- especially for the dogs to run around in the backyard. It had both and enclosed area as well as a large open space for them to run. The house is so cute and cozy, we loved hanging out by the fireplace and just chatting.
Overall I have only great things to say about our stay!

Thanks Rachel! We’re so glad you had a nice stay. You and your family were lovely and are welcome back anytime.
A beautiful historic property lovingly maintained. We greatly enjoyed our five nights at this three bedroom property in November 2022. I enjoyed exploring the area on one of the provided bicycles. We also enjoyed building a fire, during a full moon, in the large outdoor fire pit.
The beds are supremely comfortable and the antique toaster was impressive! We hope to return in 2023. Thank you Joanne for making our stay special. .

The School House was a fantastic PEC stay! The house is comfortable and charming with every detail thought out for you. We travelled with our dog and the fenced yard and dog treats were truly appreciated. The beds were extremely comfortable. We also loved the framed historical stories of the schoolhouse and students. We would love to come back. The location is ideal- very close to sandbanks and Picton- but a bit off the busy roads.

Beautiful, quiet property with charming and well appointed home. Felt very welcome and comfortable with excellent beds and plenty of room for our family to spread out. Great WIFI connectivity and streaming options gave us down time after our days at the beach. Beautiful scenic drive to the Sandbanks and access to all the County has to offer. Joanne was a pleasure to communicate with and made sure we had everything we needed. We’ll return again!

So glad you enjoyed your stay with us! It was a real pleasure hosting you and your family. I really appreciate how tidy and clean you left everything. We'd be thrilled if you decided to stay with us again. Enjoy the rest of your summer!
A group of friends came together to celebrate a bachelorette. We were coming from TO and Ottawa and Cornwall and PEC holds a special place in the Bride To Be’s heart. The host was kind and communicated above and beyond. The space was beautiful and full of really cool antiques and historical pieces. The kitchen had every gadget and dish and do-dads one could need. The beds were incredibly comfortable and plenty of spare blankets in case it got chilly. The space was only a short drive to Picton and we were able to see all the sights. I highly recommend this host and space. pcomfortable

I’m very happy you enjoyed your stay and had a fun weekend! Congratulations to the bride!!
We had an amazing weekend getaway. The place was better than the pictures showed in the ad! It was very clean, the beds were incredibly comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked. The check in process was as easy as it could be and the instructions for everything was perfectly outlined for us. The one thing to note is that the air conditioning works great on the main level but it is quite warm upstairs. We had one fan but could have used a second for the other upstairs room. Overall, this place was exactly as we hoped it would be!

Thanks for your lovely words Meghan. I am sorry the air conditioning isn't as good upstairs. I've put additional fans in the rooms now in hopes to help other guests. One day we'll be able to upgrade the ducting to better serve the bedrooms (old houses!). We'd love to host you again, should you be able to visit us again. Enjoy the rest of your summer!
This amazing home was all we wanted and more. We have stayed in many places but never had a warmer and more welcoming environment. Use of so many aspects of home (bikes, beach towels, dog bowls and treats...) was included and encouraged. Communication was timely, friendly, and supportive. We were so grateful to have such a wonderful home-away-from-home for our visit to Picton area. The many personal touches wowed us all. Can't wait to stay here again! Oh, and one more thing...we all commented on how amazing it was to have a host think of locating chargers/charging stations around the house. Just another example of a host who wanted guests to feel relaxed and happy! Thank you so much for sharing this interesting and comfortable space with us.
My family and I really enjoyed our stay at The School House. So much so that we’re considering coming back in the Fall!
The property feels homey and you can find *everything* you need for a wonderful trip to Prince Edward County - beach towels and umbrellas, sunscreen, bug spray and toiletries. Each outlet has a USB cord so you can charge your phone no matter where you are. There is a binder full of handy tips about the property and area. The host has truly thought of everything!
Our only feedback was that the air conditioning on the first way is wonderful but it has trouble reaching the second floor which makes sleeping upstairs in the summer months a bit uncomfortable. There was a fan for the window but it was still quite humid and sticky.
Overall we would certainly return to The Schoolhouse and suggest that you book with them as well!

We're very glad that you enjoyed your stay with us. We are sorry the air conditioning wasn't up to the heatwave. It is something that we are aware of and hopefully will be able to find a solution to moving forward. We'd enjoy hosting you and your family again.
Review of 8 School House Road
We have been coming to Prince Edward County for summer holiday for over 20 years. Lodging has included camping (at Smuggler’s Cove) plus various cottages. We’ve greatly enjoyed all our visits, made lifelong friends and been pleased with all our accommodations.
This year’s rental of the converted school house was the most enjoyable lodging and in a great location. Joanne has done a superb job of outfitting the house. The decor is “understated comfort” but more importantly it is extremely well stocked with everything one could need - just bring food!
There’s plenty of room for most families. One evening we entertained four guests for appetizers and dinner - a wonderful, large, round dining room table was more than adequate. The kitchen is well appointed with enough cookware, dishes, cutlery, etc., to serve a large party. The bedrooms are comfortable with all linens, towels, etc., in abundance. My son and family came down from Toronto for a visit and the grandchildren loved being with us … and being spoiled!
The grounds are spacious with a lovely deck, a fenced area for dogs (we brought two!) and additional field area where soccer, football, etc., could be enjoyed.
I mentioned location - this place is QUIET! It’s far enough away from busy areas to be quiet and comfortable, but close enough for an easy drive into Milford, Cherry Valley or Picton. Wellington and Bloomfield are a bit further, but still an easy drive.
Thank you so much, Joanne,
Earl D.

About the host

We fell in love with Prince Edward County while visiting back in 2017. We were lucky enough to find this lovely old building and enjoy spending time here with our family. Our goal is to share the cozy, friendly and relaxed County experience with others by offering our home as a vacation rental. We hope you enjoy staying here and exploring the County as much as we do.
Why they chose this property
This home was a one room school house from 1866 to 1966. It holds many happy memories for local residents, some of which are captured in stories we display in the house. What makes this property unique
We offer quiet comfort, sunny farm views and a homey, relaxed atmosphere for the perfect getaway.
