The Ledges Resort and Marina, Gatehouse 1

Gatehouse 1 is a fully renovated three bedroom two bathroom unit that can sleep up to eight people. It is one side of a duplex with it's own private entrance and deck.

Welcome to The Ledges Resort & Marina! We are located directly on the St. Lawrence River across from Boldt Castle. We have views of the castle, Sunken Rock Lighthouse, and the main shipping channel. We have decks, docks, hammocks, and gazebos across our six-acre property. There are so many great places to relax, read a book, walk, or go fishing. We have a beautiful newly renovated in-ground pool. There are outdoor fire-pits where you can warm up under the stars. We even provide the firewood! There are plenty of open lawn areas to play catch, lawn games, or just take a walk.

The Ledges offers a peaceful getaway with six acres of landscaped grounds along the water. While the grounds provide privacy and lots of space, we are not in a remote location. It’s a quick and easy walk downtown Alexandria Bay. We are close to all of the attractions. At the Ledges you have the best of both worlds, relaxation and convenience!

2nd time visiting

This is our second year visiting the same house. It feels like a home away from home. The owners make it so easy for check in. Both times it was ready early. The view is so beautiful of the river. Town is within walking distance. We love it and we will be back again next year. We have gone in September and October but Boldt castle is closed after Columbus Day. Loved it bith times tbough.

We had a great time. Very easy to get to. Nick was very attentive. We had a fire the first night and by mid day the firewood was replenished. The house was so cozy and had everything we needed. Down to the cookie pan. Very happy with the location. We had a view of the lake. Could see the barges going by. Town was a walk away. Just all around great weekend.

Awesome location, short walk to town

This place was so cute and clean, awesome location with a view of the water right off the back deck. Fire pit was great and they provided wood and kindling so it was super easy to start. The pool was nice and not very busy, we mainly had it to ourselves!! Boat rentals right on site! Everything was right there and out in the open with staff often riding around the property yet our bungalow was super private and we never felt any of the staff was impeding on our fun, but were there to help if we need anything!

No worries at Ledges!

We enjoyed our relaxing stay at Ledges. The house was updated, filled with essentials and very clean. The beds were very comfortable and we were provided plenty of pillow and other comfort items. The check-in process was virtual so when we had questions or needed anything the management was always available via text and responded promptly. The location was further from town than we thought it would be. We enjoyed the pool and hammocks, there was plenty of room to run around the grounds. It'd be great if there was beach access or a playground, maybe those are some things that can be thought of for the future - with those the property would be a home run! We definitely enjoyed our COVID-safe stay!

The Ledges Resort & Marina started with my grandparents Nicholas J Schaefer and his wife Amy. They purchased the property in 1961 and made it their home. In 1963 they built a motel and named it The Ledges. They also opened a German restaurant on the property named The Old World Inn. They closed the restaurant 1982, but continued with the motel. In later years the motel was managed by my parents, Jerome and Deborah Schaefer. They expanded into the marina and cottage rental business. In 2013 after 50 years in business we made a decision as a family to close the business and tear down the motel.

In 2014 my wife and I purchased the property from my parents. We remodeled the old buildings and built brand new cottages from the ground up. We re-opened to guests in the spring of 2015. I was named after my grandfather, Nicholas, and it just so happens that my wife’s name is Amy. So, once again Nick & Amy are your hosts at the Ledges!
