Spacious group and family friendly house,in Colerne village, close to Bath
Trimnells House is a former farm house,in the heart of Colerne Village . You’ll love the quiet ambience, with two pubs within walking distance, A short drive to Bath, Castle Combe and Lacock. Our house has large en suited rooms that are ideally suited to groups of friends and families. The house is surrounded by gardens and has ample parking on the drive. The guest accommodation is on the ground and first floor. The 2nd floor appartment and single storey granny annexe are not included. The house is ideally placed for combining the enjoyment of rural South West England with the delights of exploring the areas rich and varied history. Stay at Trimnells House if you want a venue for a group of friends or family . Colerne is a friendly welcoming village with a shop and village store which also has a post office. 2 pubs including the Fox and Hounds which serves reasonably priced food,or the Six Bells which often has a takeaway van in the car park serving food, both pubs have gardens. There are also 2 clubs that serve drinks that welcome visitors staying with us. The Fox and Hounds and Liberal club regularly host local musical events Alternatively, you may wish to eat at Lucknam Park, where chef Hywel Jones holds a Michelin star, who knows, you may bump into one of the celebrities that stay there. Recently Rowan Atkinson hit the national news after many villagers and pets were disturbed by a firework display at Lucknam Park arranged by him .I've heard that when Nicholas Cage lived locally he ate at the restaurant and Robbie Williams has enjoyed the pool in the spa. We once had Kate Middletons parents stay here to attend a local wedding. They were turned away at the local pub for food because they were too busy and nobody recognised them. That's how crazy it gets here folks! I could go on about the time a Texan billionaires daughter took over Lucknam Park Hotel for her wedding but that's another story...or how a guest bumped into local Ex Bath Rugby star Chris Lilley and went home with a team strip! Hopefully this gives you an idea of the ambience of the area. I will just mention that Colerne residents are known as Colerne donkeys. This relates to a story regarding the burial of a donkey in the graveyard with its hooves protruding. Don't ask me to explain, nor explain why there is no minute hand on the Church clock! Trimnells offers guests the chance to enjoy village life in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty,on the edge of the Cotswold way. They can enjoy peace and tranquility whilst being close to nearby tourist attractions. They can walk to country pubs in a friendly unspoiled village just off the tourist track where visitors of all kinds are welcomed including many overseas visitors who have described Colerne as "a bit of old England". We believe by this they mean that locals will greet you and talk in the street and pubs not Local facilities include golf, clay pigeon shooting, quad bikes, go karts, paddle boards, escape rooms ,axe throwing etc. There are also 2 parks/play areas within the village. If you want more information on some points, just send an enquiry.
Bath is a short drive away ,theTherma Spa is a popular venue for our guests. There are too many places to visit in Bath to list here.
Past guests comment on how much they enjoy our gardens ,where children can play whilst adults eat and drink.Children seem very excited when they arrive. Perhaps it's the imposing and slightly 'Hogwarts' exterior of the house which they explore energetically before moving on to the walled garden with its (fenced) fish pond, fruit trees and chicken run where they find our chickens living in a children's playhouse converted into a chicken house. Our hens are rescued from slaughter they enjoy their new found freedom in a large run to the side of the house. Children may feed the chickens and collect the eggs and seem to enjoy just watching them. (They are like little dinosaurs strutting around complete with the odd fight!)In the garden you may also meet garden our cat called Salem and our giant continental rabbit called Sabrina Groups from large cities, enjoy the peace and quiet and slower pace of a village and leave with batteries recharged.
Film buffs and families who want to keep children entertained may wish to visit nearby Castle Combe where scenes from Stardust, the first Dr Doolittle and Warhorse were filmed, and Lacock where scenes from Harry Potter and numerous costume dramas were filmed. William Fox Talbot undertook some early pioneering work on photography in Lacock Abbey where you will find a Museum of photography The village and Abbey are owned by the National Trust and preserved for posterity. Guests have access to the gardens, car park, ground and first floors. The second floor self contained appartment and single storey ground floor granny annexe are owner occupied Accessability The ground floor bedroom has a level access shower (a shower stool +/or grab rail can be provided upon request) A ramp is available for wheelchair access to the single step at the front door. Overall we had a fantastic stay - as a large group (12) of adults, it met our needs perfectly!
Proximity to Bath made it very easy to get home after a night out.
We could not have been more fortunate to find Trimnells House. The owners were extremely helpful and welcoming and the accommodation really is one of the kind - the house and grounds are absolutely massive and it is in close proximity to both Chippenham and Bath Spa. The amenities were well stocked, it accommodates very large groups with ease and the property had everything from gaming facilities to travel reading and local guides. An ideal place to stay especially for larger groups.

A wonderful stay
We were a group of 13 for a hen do and had the best time at Trimnells House. All of the rooms were comfortable with en suite bathrooms. The garden is lovely - much bigger than the photos led me to believe. Sue was incredibly accommodating and helped us organise getting a hot tub delivered and set up in the garden - she was happy to deal with delivery and pick up at no extra cost. I would definitely stay again.

The perfect property for our group of 15 hens :) Nothing was too much for the host. Great communication from the beginning. We had a private chef come in to cook us dinner one of the nights and the kitchen is well equipped for this, with plenty of plates, cutlery and glasses to accommodate. Beds were comfy, enough bathrooms and toilets for all of us and also so much parking! I highly recommend Trimnells House!
Perfect size property for a group of ladies in our 40s to get together and celebrate our friend’s upcoming wedding.
Individual beds and bathrooms in each room made it all the more comfortable.
Good size property - not too big but big enough for everyone to be together.
Clean property, well stocked kitchen for entertaining. Sue was lovely and answered all our questions, provided towels and tea towel and made the overall experience nice and easy.
Only downside is we didn’t get to enjoy the garden as was raining!
Thanks so much for having us Sue!
We stayed at Trimnells for a recent hen party. There were 12 of us. Every bedroom had up to 4 people in it and all en-suites so showers and WCs were no problem at all. Lots of lovely little extra things that made our stay really easy… a drinks fridge in the dining room, seating for everyone, front door keys in every bedroom, code entry to each bedroom and even recycling. A great location close to Chippenham and Bath and Susan the hostess was very friendly and relaxed - happy that we were there to enjoy ourselves. Lovely garden and a delightful little village… we had no problem with taxis to Bath (around £20). We had a wonderful time and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.
We were a hen party of 12 staying at Trimnells.
From the moment we booked Susan was fantastic. Nothing was ever to much trouble for her.
She was so informative, giving us lots of information about Taxi’s and local amenities.
House was lovely, clean and tidy. Kitchen was very well equipped. Rooms were large and the beds were very comfortable. We had everything we needed for a large group.
Mark met us on arrival and showed us around. We shortly met Susan after. Both were so friendly and welcoming.
And thank you for the hot tub !!!
A short drive into Bath by taxi.
We would recommend anybody to stay at Trimnells.
Thank you for letting us stay at your lovely house.

Booked when restricted to 2 families hence only 8 people in lovely large accommodation.
Excellent facilities including lovely garden. Children loved the chickens and were thrilled to collect eggs in the morning.
Very accommodating owners.
Lovely break - wish it could have been longer.
Thanks for a lovely few days
Fabulous property in a lovely location close to Bath and Chippenham. I hired the place for friends to meet up to learn cooking together. Perfect house to accommodate a big group. Sue, owner, was fabulous. Great communication throughout. Very clean house, had everything I needed. Highly recommended.

Perfect for events
We had 12 guests for a stag party. There were enough comfortable beds for all of us, plenty of nice bathrooms and some great communal areas including garden space. A great place for this kind of event.

About the host
Hosted by Susan Parkinson
Hi I grew up in Bath. I purchased Trimnells House and moved to Colerne in 1991. I nursed until 2009, since when I have been offering guest accommodation. I do enjoy eating out and live music. I also enjoy seeing visitors have a memorable stay at Trimnells House. I have lots of information about the local area so please ask if you need anything.
Why they chose this property
This property is imposing and is visually pleasing. The rooms airy and spacious. The village is traditional, thriving and friendly. Offering this property enables me to share this experience with others.
If you are a stag/hen party Trimnells offers a good environment to have a party, have a barbecue, make use of the garden for games. You can take a short walk to pubs that can look after large groups particularly if you make prior arrangements arrangements and book tables. Further afield are the nightclubs of Bath and Bristol. Why not take the plunge like a Roman and swim in the hot spring water at Bath Thermae Spa? If you are a family group. Families with children have particularly enjoyed staying at Trimnells. Children seem very excited when they arrive. Perhaps its the imposing and slightly 'Hogwarts' exterior of the house which they explore energetically before moving on to the walled garden with its fish pond, fruit trees and chicken run where they find our chickens living in a children's playhouse converted into a chicken house. Our hens (~20-25) are rescue hens from battery units who enjoy virtual freedom in a large run to the side of the house. Children can feed the chickens and collect the eggs and seem to enjoy just watching them. (They are like little dinosaurs strutting around complete with the odd fight)! We are about 6 miles away from Castle Combe used for 'War Horse' and 'Stardust' movies. We are also about 6 miles from Lacock used in the 'Harry Potter' movies including Harry Potters classroom and his parents house. Further afield can be found Stonehenge, Avebury stone circle and Longleat. If they go to the Roman Baths they can walk where the Romans walked and there are some good hologram effects to give you an idea of what it was like. If you take the kids to the viewing point at the top of nearby Tog Hill they can see across Bristol and the Severn Estuary as far as the Brecon Beacons on a clear day. (Binoculars recommended).
What makes this property unique
The best features about this property include the peace and quiet of the enclosed gardens and surrounding area. The architecture of the property which never fail to impress. Other benefits include:- Ample off street parking. Groups often arrive from different directions in many cars. Parking can be difficult in Bath. Stags/Hens or families may want to be at the hub of many interesting attractions. Guests will be within 7 miles of Bath, Castle Combe and Lacock. These last two villages are featured in movies and TV and are an attraction in their own right and quickly reached from Colerne. Guests will be able to enjoy country pubs in a small but vibrant village location far different from the towns or countries many come from. Guests who intend to visit Bath whose journey involves the M4 will find we are ideally placed as a destination, before they complete the last few miles of their journey into Bath.
