Donovan was a delightful guest. He followed all the rules, was neat and clean and very personable.
This was such a fun little space. Lots of unique finishes in the home and great outdoor spaces for eating/reading/relaxing. The bed was comfortable. Kitchen isn’t overly stocked with cooking/baking supplies, but that didn’t bother us, as it had all we needed. We hope to be able to stay again when we have more time to enjoy the outdoor spaces.

It was a pleasure hosting you guys. Thanks for taking the sheets off and taking the garbage out. Look forward to hosting you guys again. All the best and God Bless!
This place is truly gorgeous, inside and out! You can tell everything has been built, decorated, and planted with love. Make sure you tell the host to have the jacuzzi ready if you plan to use it, and beware that if you have walking or balance issues, it may be too hard to get down to it. The kitchen has everything, but if you want to cook a lot, you might want to bring some extra pots and pans.
The inside decor is spectacular, and the grounds are fun to wander around. The temperature was in the 90's when I was there, but I was super comfortable inside with the A/C and all the ceiling fans. And I had the BEST showers of my life there - truly unique.
I would go back again for sure. Private, beautiful, quiet, luxurious.

The casita and the grounds were amazing. The rooftop lounge area had a wonderful view, the deck around the back was great, the double-sided fireplace was sooo lovely, the shower was terrific. The property is totally unique for the area...like a scene from Jurassic Park or the Jungle Cruise at Disney. Nothing like it in the low mountains.

Owners were wonderful to help get us situated and checked in. Also nice to talk to.
I will admit that my wife was a little nervous about staying where someone else lives. But we were both very, very happy we made the decision to stay here! It was an amazing place and so much better than a typical hotel or even a typical VRBO. It was a beautiful property to explore and was like living in a tree house. Bed was super, bathroom and kitchen were perfect. I can't recommend this enough if you are in Alpine or the San Diego area. We can't wait to be back!
Thank you to the owners for a super stay.
Let me begin by saying we had a great time and the room/landscape was beautiful. It was our first time in Alpine so we didn't know what to expect. Based on the pictures, I thought we were going to be in the middle of the woods. I was surprised then when we drove up into what looked like a nice upscale residential neighborhood. I almost didn't think we had the right place. We made contact easily with the owner and were shown around. The owner is onsight, but the room itself is detached from the main house and is like an apartment up above the garage. All the pictures are accurate. It overlooks a beautiful, secluded backyard that becomes your own little oasis. Despite having the owner onsight, it felt extremely private and beyond when first arrived, we didn't see them the rest of the time. We enjoyed our stay so much we ended up staying an extra night. I would highly recommend it and I can't wait to make our way back there again.
A wonderful experience easy in and easy out relaxing available great amenities and decor. Alpine has wonderful weather we enjoyed outside by the barbecue and a late evening Jacuzzi…
This place is chock full of secrets and surprises and I was continuously amazed at how well thought out the decor of La Casita was. The pictures do not do this place justice, it is beautiful, and maybe my favorite surprise was a little brunch balcony behind the house. It feels like you are eating and waking up among the trees. Make sure you talk to Carletta, she has a story about every part of the property.

Ian, it was a pleasure telling you guys about how we created our wildlife preserve and habitat. We try to make our guests feel at home. Look forward to hosting you guys again.
This darling little casita is a delightful alternative to a hotel. The decor reflects the time and passion dedicated to the theme. Our hosts were friendly and attentive to our needs. Perfect for a romantic getaway.
This property was so special and even more beautiful than in the photos! The house itself is gorgeous, with a comfy bed and fun recliner chairs, and gorgeous tile and other lovely touches throughout. I loved the deck with the bird feeder, and the rooftop area for stargazing or drinking coffee, but the grounds are truly amazing- such a whimsical and private property to explore. Our dogs were in heaven, too- tons of room to run around and investigate, and actual lush grass as a bonus. The hot tub at night was perfection! Even with my bad knee, we climbed the crazy steps and had an absolute blast. The hosts were wonderful too. Highly recommend for a place to hide away and totally relax. Thank you, Carlette and JC!
La Casita is a hidden gem and felt like our very own private oasis. Space is sectioned off from main home on 2nd floor. VERY PRIVATE. Hosts were hospitable and had great communication. Our reservation was for 2 nights. I took a queen sized air mattress which fit well in the living room area so that my mom could sleep on the bed. Kitchen was fully stocked with coffee maker, fridge, pots/pans utensils, etc... + washer & dryer. We really felt at home and got lots of uninterrupted R&R. It was so nice that our fur baby was able to roam free. A truly unique experience for everyone! Property is a labor of love. We will definitely be booking at La Casita again! Perfect for couples! Thank you Carlette & JC!!

La Casita was an absolutely beautiful property. Carlette was kind enough to give us a tour and tell us about all the work they’ve put into landscaping. My only regret was that I only booked one night.

I picked out this VRBO for my boyfriend's Birthday over Easter weekend. I loved that it had outdoor space, a spa, grill and was easily accessed and dog friendly. I was hoping for a nice quiet weekend where we could recharge and it ended up being so much more! The casita is even better than the photos, it is comfortable and inviting, with multiple outdoor spaces attached with beautiful views. The grounds are spacious and so much fun to explore. Everything was clean and well taken care of, we loved every inch of the property. All three of us came away feeling so much more relaxed, and we even got to know our kind and gracious hosts as we were leaving. This place is a must stay and an absolute gem, we will definitely be back again soon.
Hidden gem with exquisite amenities. Owners have thought of everything! La Casita transports you to a tree top refuge from the pressure of work. We loved the lighted paths and the spa to relax in after work. (We stayed here because of a work event near by). The owners are very kind and accommodating! We really enjoyed our stay and we will definitely visit again when we can. Highly recommend this Alpine get away.

About the host
Hosted by Carlette Anderson
I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Attended High School of Art and Design in Manhattan and went to Jacksonville University in Florida where I majored in Health and Physical Education and became a high school PE teacher. Lived in Germany for three years and El Salvador, Central America for six years. Moved to San Diego in 1980 and married JC on April 25, 1986. We purchased our property in Alpine in March 1993 and built La Casita in 2005.
Why they chose this property
We purchased this property because of the topography. It took us about two years to clear out the poison out, scrub brush, dead trees and dead bushes. What you see today is a labor of love. We planted just about every tree and plant you see. God gave us the oaks, willows, toyons and a variety of native plants. My husband, JC, seeded the golf course which is his pride and glory. I call the Golf Course "JC's Park." When we planted the trees they were very small. Today some are over 50 feet tall. The bushes, we planted, were all one gallons and now they also are quite massive. We knew it was going to be nice but had no idea just how nice. You will have to judge for yourself when you stay with us.
We call our place "Las Tres Palmas" and our preserve "Wild Holly Creek." This is actually the official name for our creek. When Jon Green, Director of Alpine's Back Country Land Trust, was mapping all the creeks in Alpine he told me that our creek did not have a name. I told him that we named it "Wild Holly Creek" in 1994. We named it that because God gave us 15 native Wild Holly trees (Toyon, Heteromeles arbutifolia) that grow along the creek. Some are over 100 years old. During November and December the trees are ablaze with little red berries.
On January 17, 1994 our garden was certified by the National Wildlife Federation. Alpine was designated the Nations First Community Wildlife Habitat on May 1, 1999. We learned that "Wild Holly Creek" is Alpine's First Certified Wildlife Habitat and feel honored to have this designation. Today I am the Director of Alpine's Community Wildlife Habitat Program. I give two lectures a year at the library, one for children in April, teaching children about Monarch butterflies and one in October for adults where I talk about what to plant in Alpine and to certify your garden. I continue to encourage Alpine residents to certify their garden so Alpine can keep their designation with NWF as the Nation's First Community Wildlife Habitat.
What makes this property unique
Also located in Alpine. Sky Falconry (interact with raptors), Lions, Tigers and Bears, (sanctuary for rescued animals), For a list of all local attractions and events please go to www.VisitAlpine.org.
Viejas Casino and Resort includes several restaurants and is about a 15 minute drive.
Abundant restaurants right in Alpine. Mexican, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, American, Bar-B-Que. You name it we have it. All do take out. You can also use Door Dash for delivery. I am Alpine's historian. In 2009 I wrote a book about the history of Alpine titled, My Alpine. There is a copy in La Casita. If you are into history I can give you a private tour of the John DeWitt Historic Museum and or our Historic Town Hall built in 1899. Donations are accepted for the tours. This money goes to the Alpine Historical Society for the Museum tour and to the Alpine Woman's Club for the Town Hall tour.
If you have any questions please ask me. I am here to make your stay the best ever.
