Named "The Verandah" for its distinctive architecture, this beautiful, 2700 square foot, newly furnished and designer decorated home is 300 yards from the peaceful white sand and surf of Marine Beach. The home is located centrally in the prime La Jolla neighborhood of Beach Barber Tract, known for quaint historical homes within a quiet neighborhood. The famous restaurants and amazing shops of the Village are all within a mile to the north and east, an easy and beautiful walk with no need to find parking. The neighboring beach, Wind N Sea, is a short, beautiful walk to the south and is known for some of the best west coast waves, attracting surfers from all over the world! One can sit for hours watching the action of the surfers and even see an occasional whale. Read a good book, catch a nap, or just listen to the surf and watch the sunset from either of the home's two quiet upstairs balconies.

Each of the home's 4 bedrooms has its own bathroom, tub/shower, and TV. The master bedroom is large and private with a separate sitting area with fireplace and adjacent office/library complete with desk, printer and best-selling books and DVDs. Attention to detail is unsurpassed - fresh flowers and fruit upon arrival, soft towels, and all bed linens straight from the cleaners for a beautifully pressed, cozy bed. There is a light and bright full kitchen, breakfast nook, and full dining room to fit the whole family. The home is fully stocked with every imaginable item - inside and out, including a gas grill, plush outdoor furniture, and new bicycles! Two private, grassy yards are perfect for kids to play or adults to relax. Roses abound and figs and fruit are plentiful when in season!

This was a perfect house for our large family. Each bedroom has a full bathroom. The kitchen is fully equipped. There’s onsite parking and two lawn areas. The beach is a block away.

La Jolla Family Get Together

We were very impressed with the house and its location. It was very comfortable and well furnished/equipped for our family. Two suggestions: provide curtains in the master bedroom and towel bars in the master bath.

Thank you, Jim, for your comments. We are so glad that you were so "very impressed with the house and its location" and that you found it "very comfortable and well-furnished/equipped" for your family. In regard to your suggestions - thank you! I had replaced the towel bars in the master with 4 large towel hooks on the backs of the doors, in that the bars kept being pulled out of the wall. We will take your suggestion and hang the bars back up - that way there will be 4 large towel hooks and two towel bars in the future. We apologize if the 4 large towel hooks did not suffice. There are curtains in the windows in the master along the street and blinds in place in the master bathroom. There are removeable blinds/curtains in the linen closet for the two remaining recessed dormer windows that face the yard. We are always happy to hang them up if requested. This option is explained during the check in (we did an early check in for your adult children and their baby, so maybe that's why you didn't know?), but I will add it in the welcome letter as well. The large semicircular window over the master is an odd shape and curtains/blinds unfortunately cannot be placed there. We certainly could hang a sheet if the light is disturbing, the location of the window is high and no one can see in unless sitting in the large palm tree behind the house. Thank you again for sharing our home - please return (we will have towel bars replaced and curtains/blinds hung for you). Sincerely, Sally and Jeff

Fantastic property!

Everything about this house was great. It was a perfect layout for my family and loved that each bedroom had it's own bathroom and it's own TV. We thoroughly enjoyed the easy beach access - only a 5 minute walk. We also were able to walk to several delicious restaurants as well. The communication with the owner and property manager was top notch and the welcome fruit basket upon our arrival was such a nice touch. Would definitely stay here again!

Great location but house not great for 3 couples.

Great location and beautiful house but it’s set up for a family with children as opposed to three senior couples. Master bedroom spectacular but other bedrooms are very small with small bathrooms.

Hello John, thank you for your input. I am sorry that you were disappointed with the sizes of the the downstairs bedrooms and bathrooms. The photos are, however, very representative - a large master suite which occupies the upstairs with a large bath, sitting room, library and two balconies. The 3 downstairs bedrooms with 3 full baths are smaller, but as pictured, are a nice size for two guests...but you are correct, not as spectacular as the master. Our eldest son was married at the Darlington House on Saturday August 17th. His brother, 92 and 88 year old grandparents and our dear friends the pastor and his wife also stayed with us. A fabulous home in La Jolla

The house was perfect. Beautiful rooms and a lovely side yard. Bright and cheery with a lovely kitchen and places to eat inside and outside. The yard is a perfect place for a toddler to play and adults to chill. We loved being so close to the beach and all the restaurants and shops in La Jolla. Easy access to all the San Diego attractions.. The property manager Marty was so responsive and friendly. We could not have asked for a better home for our family vacation. It exceeded all of our expectations.

We spent countless hours researching places from San Diego to Carlsbad for 5 adults, and our almost 3 yo and 9 mo old granddaughters. This beautiful home far exceeded our expectations. It’s impossible to list all the highlights, but here are a few: excellent communication and superb hospitality with manager/hosts; ideal walking location to beach, shoreline and LaJolla village; ample street parking; the gorgeous interior of the house and the furnishings with private inside/outdoor spaces to work/read/relax; equipped to hilt; special added details to make this home an epicenter of wonderful family memories! We look forward to the next visit and simply wouldn’t stay anywhere else.

Peaceful Oasis

We were in La Jolla for my husband to have some eye surgery performed and wanted a comfortable, inviting, cheerful, beautiful, and home-like venue for him to recover in. This house was absolutely perfect in all respects. The owner and the property manager were over the top great to work with. So kind, so quick to respond and so willing to help us in any way they could. The house has a great location, whether you want quick access to the beach and great restaurants and shops, or just want a quiet retreat to recover in. The kitchen is equipped with everything you could need, the beds are comfortable and the outside seating area provides a private, comfortable gathering place to enjoy the lovely weather La Jolla has to offer. We highly recommend this home without any reservation or qualification.

Wonderful beach escape

From beginning to end, this beach house is the perfect escape for any family. The house and reviews are totally accurate. Such a special location two blocks from private-ish beach with gentle waves and soft sand. Great morning walks north and south along the ocean. 5 minute drive from all the fabulous area restaurants. House itself is beautiful and private, clean and comfortable. Lots of space for kids to online learn with sufficient WiFi. Enclosed yard with soft turf and nice furniture for outdoor dining and exercise. Host is communicative and helpful and house has all supplies for beach and living. Couldn’t have had a better happier week away from the Northern California smoke and fires. Will certainly be back!

Our vacation in our Castle in the Clouds

We flew to San Diego to join my sil and youngest son on their 3 day walk for a cure for breast cancer. What a journey of support and love and inspiration we shared in (my sister in law calls it) her pink Bubble. We needed a spot close to the grounds and her home. There could not have been a more convenient place for walking to grocery stores and restaurants. Then the beach is just 3 blocks away. We woke up early for the sunrise and started our days with many smile. My children came together from Austin, LA, Amsterdam NYC and Denver - we could not have asked for a more gracious host and property manager. They gave us the tools to fit in like locals- the neighborhood was quiet and restful. We want to return!

Wonderful home in an outstanding area

What an amazing home. Even better than the pictures. The location couldn’t be better. It’s on a quiet street two blocks from a lovely beach. You are also just a few blocks (5 minute walk) to a few spectacular restaurants and shops. The cove, although beautiful, does tend to get very congested and this home balances being just close enough so you have privacy and are only a short walk away. The house has everything you will ever need and everything is In meticulous condition. Every utensil and kitchen appliance, bikes, beach chairs, linens, etc. All first class. Sally and Jeff, and Anna the property manager, were open, responsive and extremely warm. Like staying with good friends. Very much looking forward to our return here in the future and I suggest you give this home a try yourself.

Why they chose this property

We love the fact that we can walk anywhere from our home, yet when it's time to relax, we are located in a very quiet, peaceful location. The home is minutes to everything La Jolla is famous for: the Village, the Children’s Pool, the Contemporary Art Museum, the Cove, boutique shopping, the best restaurants, tennis courts, swimming pool, art galleries, and much more. One of the nicest wide sandy beaches, Marine Beach, is just down the street. The Beach Barber Tract is a fabulous location with known for its Old World character, historic homes and charming streets. Like us, you will fall in love with the location and this marvelous home!

What makes this property unique

The owner and local property manager personally oversee everything in the home and treat it as if they live there. The home beautifully appointed with wonderful furniture and decor and stocked to the nines! All the sheets are sent out to the cleaners and the home is keep in impeccable condition.
