About this property
Bairro Alto / Chiado Neighborhood.
A bright and cozy 4th floor apartment located on the border between the Bairro Alto and Chiado neighborhoods, with a nice rooftop view over the Bairro. Has a balcony over the Gaveas street, walking distance from many essential spots to visit.
The space
The apartment was recently renovated (3/4 years ago) and while small sized (typical in this neighborhood), has an ample and well lit living room and sufficient sized rooms. Walls and doors are white to maximize light reflection on all areas. Kitchen is small but fully equipped and Bathroom has a nice area with a full-sized bathtub. All areas have natural light from outside.
The apartment is East / West oriented.
Guest Access
The building has no elevator, so guests must climb the 4 stages on foot. It is an old building (pre-1755 earthquake) so elevators can only be found on a handful of few renovated buildings.
Interaction with Guests
Hosts can be contacted at all times via phone, email or homeaway messaging system.
The neighborhood
Markets, supermarkets, groceries, food stores, bakeries, restaurants, wineries, cafes, bars and discos plus some more stuff: Concert venues, museums (Chiado Modern Art Museum), Theaters (at least two , and one includes an Opera house), excellent downtown sightseeing viewpoints, monuments, the historical downtown area and castle, etc. Everything at just a 30 minute walk.
Getting Around
There are BUS stations, Tram stations and a Subway station close by. The Subway can take guests to and from the Airport (check Subway map in the photos). The subway station can also be used to travel easily to and from the downtown area using electrical escalators (useful if you travel with small kids who get tired of walking around, or heavy luggage), because there's another access entrance downtown;
There are at least 3 public parking buildings in the area to choose from, as well as a few street parking spaces (all paid parking).
There's a supermarket nearby (300m), which can easily get crowded, even on weekdays, so if you're going to cook or make breakfast, plan your grocery shopping in advance. The other nearest supermarket is a bit farthest (600m) and some going up and down the hills;
There's also a bakery at the south end of the street (100m) open all week.
Other Things to Note
Bairro Alto is a fun and busy neighborhood, mostly at night, with restaurants, bars, fado joints, tapas houses, clothing stores, vinyl shops, designer studios, etc. The apartment's street also happens to be one of the least noisier ones, but still it is to be expected some street noise, especially during weekend nights.
The apartment has double-glass windows which when closed shut, block some 90 to 95% of the street noise, so we think that resting times are guaranteed for everyone. Nevertheless, some guests not used to live in busy city centers might be a bit more sensitive to the noise.
House rules
No loud noises after 10PM, please. There are neighbors living in the building. There's also a 'rules card' in the apartment for easy guest guidance.
