About this property
Lovely Alpine chalet near ski bus stop, fabulous views, tablet pcs, free WiFi
A spacious self-catering chalet in the lovely French Alpine village of St Bon Courchevel in the world's largest ski resort of The Three Valleys. At 1100m altitude the chalet has stunning views and is only a couple of minutes’ drive to the fast ski lifts of Le Praz Courchevel 1300 which will whisk you onto the slopes! A good free ski bus service stops just 200 m from the chalet, and in good snow conditions you can ski back to the charming village of St Bon. The ski buses go straight to the Le Praz ski lifts, and on to other resorts. The first bus stop after St Bon is near the excellent ski lift station (the Alpinium) in Courchevel Le Praz (1300) where you can buy lift passes (either for the Courchevel valley, or for all the Three Valleys), get piste maps, bus timetables, get details of all events and entertainments, and it has ski lockers next to the lifts if you or your children prefer not to carry them around all week! The fabulous Aquamotion with its indoor surfing, wild rivers, water slides, climbing, beauty and wellness zones is just 10 minutes away. The massive Paradiski area at Champagny-en-Vanoise is less than 20 minutes’ drive, and it’s half an hour to the smaller resort of Pralognan. The Black Pearl Pizza restaurant (plus a take-away service), with its wood fired oven and vaulted ceiling, is only a 500 metres walk and the free resort buses run late into the night for visiting the many other restaurants, shops and bars in the resort villages. Chalet L'Orbeye is tastefully finished with plenty of room for up to 11 guests. All of the 4 bedrooms have wall-mounted flatscreen TVs including French and UK channels, a tablet PC complete with games and other functions and there is free unlimited WiFi in the chalet. The spacious open plan living, dining and kitchen area is fully refurbished in Alpine style with a stylish wood burning stove on a stone hearth. Three new comfy leather sofas plus other seating let you relax to watch the Samsung 40 inch flat screen TV with Sky, French or UK channels after a long day on the slopes. There is a DVD collection of 50 movies, books to read, and games to play. The kitchen is fully equipped with hand made solid wooden units and includes a retro Smeg fridge/freezer, dishwasher, raclette set for apres-ski and everything you need to enjoy a self-catered holiday. Chalet L'Orbeye has its own integrated boot room with heated ski boot racks, an entrance from the garden plus internal stairs up to the living area which like the boot room and rest of the chalet has thermostatically controlled heating. There is parking on the driveway for up to three cars. There are ski racks and a washing machine and a tumble dryer. There is a free bottle of wine to welcome you on arrival at Chalet L'Orbeye! The approximately 130m2 of accommodation which includes bed linen, towels, and an end of week clean comprises: Garden Level: External door, entry hall, heated boot room with heated ski boot racks, washing machine, tumble dryer, and stairs up to Ground Floor: Front door, light living room with 3 French windows, open plan with great mountain views, well equipped kitchen including induction hob, large Smeg fridge/freezer, large oven, microwave combination oven and dishwasher. Outdoors: own garden, two patios (south and north-facing), free outdoor parking for 2-3 cars on the drive. Entertainment: 5 TVs, DVD player with selection of DVDs, 4 tablet PCs, books and board games. Catering: Self-catering, and excellent pre-prepared meals can be purchased from Boucherie Du Praz (daily menu of Facebook) or from www.chaletkitchen.com .There is a good small supermarket in St Bon which is just a 5 minute walk from the front door across a quiet hidden open common in the heart of the village, going past the ancient baroque church. The St Bon supermarket bakes excellent croissants (great for breakfast!) and breads on the premises, and has a mouth-watering wonderful selection of local cheeses, a good selection of general provisions, plus some foods imported from UK! You could self-cater all week using this small supermarket, use the ski bus to the slopes (and other shops, restaurants etc.), have some of the great pizzas from The Black Pearl restaurant and decide not to bother with a car on your holiday! There is an excellent ski hire shop next to the St Bon supermarket (Courchevel Racing Center Ski & Golf) beside the second ski bus stop in St Bon. It looks after many of our guests with very good service (www.locationskicourchevel.com). Also there are small supermarkets in higher Courchevel resorts, and it is just 15 minutes to a Super U hypermarket at Salins-les-Thermes. High chair and 2 stair gates are available in Chalet L'Orbeye. If needed baby equipment (e.g. cot, bed linen) can be hired from www.HolidayBabyHire.com Sleeps up to 8-11, no smoking property and no single sex groups. Below the chalet is a small 1-2 person self-contained apartment with no access to the chalet.

About the host
Hosted by Julian Braidwood
We are both retired vets that love beautiful countryside, mountainous scenery, and to ski! Our home is near the Lake District in the North of England, where we often go hiking. We were both born and lived in the South of England until we met at the University of Liverpool when we were veterinary students. After working in veterinary practice after a few years we found ourselves living near the Scottish border in Cumbria. Our three children all went to school locally, but have now all left home, and we now have one lovely grandchild. My parents were farmers and when they died we decided to sell the farm and look for a nice chalet in the Alps. In 2014 we fell in love with Chalet L'Orbeye and the next year was spent modernising and renovating the interior. Now we are looking forward to spending more time in our lovely chalet in the French Alps! We hope that you love it as much as we do!!
Why they chose this property
Chalet L'Orbeye has a fabulous location in the Courchevel valley for both winter and summer holidays. The skiing in Courchevel and the fully connected Three Valleys is world class and the largest ski area in the world. The scenery is stunning with snow topped mountains most of the year, and the village of St Bon is the original ski centre in the Courchevel valley with old buildings, a lovely church, and quiet walks. St Bon is still the administrative centre for the Courchevel valley and unlike the other nearby ski resorts has a good year round population. Other ski resorts such as Paradiski and Pralognon are easily accessible, and the spectacular Vanoise National Park is a must for nature lovers, hiking and for wildlife. It is also a great base for cycling holidays (road and mountain biking).
What makes this property unique
Chalet L'Orbeye was lovingly built by a local family that had lived in St Bon for at least three generations. The woodwork, some kitchen cupboards and original windows were made by the owner who was an artisan carpenter (and ski instructor!) so that chalet has a lovely homely feel, and is surrounded by its own Alpine garden. There are four balconies (one for each bedroom), the views are tremendous, and it is a great base for both winter and summer holidays. We had looked at many chalets, but the classic style of Chalet L'Orbeye, great location, and the Alpine wooden homely feel meant this was the chalet for us! In case you're wondering apparently Orbeye is the name of a tree! The location is perfect for getting to the slopes (just a couple of minutes) and has a free ski bus stop less than 200 m (you can see it in some photos which were taken from the chalet balconies).
