Perfect!

We had a great time in Sharon’s house. Everything was perfect. From begin to end. Our children had the best time as also our dog. The swimmingpool was great. Sharon offered to keep an eye on our dog when we went out for a trip. So sweet of her! We really recommend this house!

Superb stay in Saint Maigrin

Fantastic house in a great location. House is laid out in three separate en suites. Worked well for an extended family, we had three couples and children. Wi-Fi quality was superb as one our our group needed to work. Loads of toys and a well equipped kitchen. Sharon was a pleasure to deal with. Despite temp hitting 34celsius, we were never too warm. Short drives to shops. We’re hoping to stay again!

A perfect stay

We just spent 2 great weeks at Maison de Lafenestre. Sharon has managed to create a very comfortable environment while maintaining the beautiful, authentic aspects of the house. There is plenty of space, both inside and out. The beds are comfortable, long enough and made up in crispy white. Cute little bathrooms for lovely, powerful showers. The kitchen provides everything one could possibly need. The 2 ‘salons’ are wonderful with lots of space and high ceilings. Though we did not spend much time inside, it was great to find a collection of books, movies and games. The house was exceptionally clean. During a very warm week, we managed to keep the house relatively cool by opening and closing the shutters at the appropriate times. And of course, the swimming pool… it is a good size, and the pool area is wonderful with loungers and umbrellas. Also for our dog, this house was a perfect fit. She will miss the huge garden with plenty of corners to discover, shade to keep cool in or sunny spots for basking in the morning sun. Saint Maigrin is tiny, there is not a single shop, so a car is needed, even to go to the bakery. If you don’t mind that, and we didn’t, you will love the space and calm. At night it gets pitch dark, the best for star gazing. All the little farmers roads on the rolling hills provide countless kilometres for quiet and safe walks and runs with beautiful views over the green, open and friendly area of Charente Maritime. Communication with Sharon was quick and easy throughout. Christine was very welcoming upon arrival and did a great introductory tour of the house and grounds. We loved our stay. Thank you, Sharon.

2nd visit - Just as wonderful as last year

From the very moment we walked into the house last summer we just fell in love with it. Our return trip this year was no different, except we felt even more relaxed. I just can‘t fault this home or the location. If you want a peaceful setting this is the place. It’s perfectly placed to allow lots of exploring of this region of France, which has truly stunning country side and beautiful little old towns to explore. During our visit last year we went to the Hennessy distillery, this year we went to a local Cognac distillery, both very different experiences but equally worth the trip. At the end of the day we look forward to returning to St Maigrin, relaxing in the pool surrounded by the tranquil countryside and followed by an alfresco dinner. The house has everything you can ever need and more, an incredibly well stocked kitchen, crisp clean white bed linen, stunning dining room, Wi-Fi, TV. Even a cupboard with books and games for all ages. This is a real find, a treasure of a holiday home. My only concern is that it gets too popular and we struggle to book. Next year is in the diary already !

Fantastic two week stay in StMaigrin

On Arrival at the house we were all in awe of the lovely square it was set in, close too the church and a square filled with trees that kept the area outside the house wonderfully cool. The house itself was beautiful especially for a large family where rooms were large and spacious. The house had everything we needed for a long stay. The showers and bathroom were very clean and modern. Plenty of storage for clothes in bedrooms and plenty of seating for all the family. Kitchen was very well stocked and cooking for several people was easy. Outside the garden was extensive and the pool and surrounding area is where we spent most hot days where temps were hitting 35c and beyond. We loved our lazy days by the pool. On arrival we met the housekeeper who resides next door and she was friendly and accessible which made us feel at ease if we did not know something. The owner was also very informative and contactable if any problems arose. This was a wonderful base to explore Cognac, Bordeaux, Royan and Aubeterre where we had a wonderful time canoeing along the River Dronne. Bordeaux also came out tops with the family where we all agreed it is the best city we have visited. We all love France but this has been by far the best accomodation and area we have stayed in so far. I would highly recommend this property to anyone as it really was an idyllic holiday.

So good the teenagers refused to go sightseeing

Great house. Perfect for us (2 families with 1 child and 5 teenagers). The house is beautifully kept - big rooms and well supplied throughout. Christine and her son live next door and are very helpful in getting you settled in. Jon (owner) was really helpful and sent plenty of information to make the most of our stay - thanks. Then there's the swimming pool! Couldn't keep the kids out - refused to go sightseeing. Big garden to play in and for the dog to run around. Everyone was happy. The village is small so there's little noise at night and amazing for star gazing too. Overall it's a brilliant house. We had a fantastic fun and relaxing week. Shame we couldn't stay longer. We'd recommend it for any group/family/friends.

A lovely stay in St Maigrin

We had a fabulous week in St Maigrin. The house is very spacious and private with a good size pool, perfect for the 4 of us but could easily accommodate others. St Maigrin is rural France but towns and cites aren't too far away, we drove up from Bordeaux which is a fabulous city, and well worth a visit. Thank you Jon for a wonderful holiday.

Lovely weeks stay

10 family members in all , grandparents and kids and their partners. We found this a perfect place for a great weeks holiday. Jon was excellent in all pre holiday info etc. And despite a delay it was easy to get in touch with the local contact and he was there to hand over the keys even at 9pm (4 hours late). The house had everything we needed. The rooms and en suits are new and spacious. 2 big lounges and a great kitchen with all you need for 10 and plenty of condiments. The big table on the veranda was great and we used this most evenings chatting, eating and watching the sun go down. We used the BBQ twice and it was easily big enough. The pool was great especially after being out and about all day. Locally the supermarket at Baignes is easily big enough for the 'big shop' . Jonzac and Barbezieux are nice local towns with good places to eat (but get the timing right). The night market at Jonzac was good, live music and good food and very popular. Bordeaux is a great City to visit, places to visit and good restaurants, but we did find the traffic within 10K very busy so try the train. All in all we had an excellent time and if it wasnt for an every expanding group of family that want to come on holiday to this area with us we would come again.

Beautiful house, fabulous break

Had a fabulous holiday here. A beautiful spacious house with loads of character but all the mod cons. It is set in the lush champagne region of Charente. A large garden, gorgeous heated pool and a terrace with a fantastic view of the surrounding countryside top it all off. The house is a short drive from the beautiful town of Jonzac and easily accessible by car from Bordeaux airport. If you prefer a drive from the ferry the village is just six miles from the motorway. The rooms are light, airy and well-appointed. The large kitchen is well equipped if you wish to stay in, but equally there are plenty of restaurants in surrounding towns. If lush & tranquil French countryside is your idea of heaven, you'll love it. Thanks for a superb stay!

Stunning property & location

We had the most wonderful time at Maison de Lafenestre, a truly stunning property. The house was impeccably clean and stocked with the cooking basics in the well equipped kitchen. Some local honey, free range eggs, bread, a bottle of wine and tea and coffee were left as a gift for us by the owners which we felt was a lovely welcoming gesture. The bedding was all white and clean, crisp and well ironed. The beds themselves very comfortable. The bathrooms were nice and modern and the shower was powerful. We loved the outdoor pool, with temperatures reaching 33 degrees while we were in France it was a welcome place at the end of a hot day. We were pleased to see that the pool had a fence around it for safety reasons. The pool was very clean, as was the area around it. We loved eating on the verandah in the evenings as the sun set, breakfast was usually taken in the kitchen on the large table which comfortably seated the 9 of us. There was also a more formal dining table in the second lounge. There were some books, games, puzzles and DVD's in the lounge which again was a nice gesture. The region is absolutely stunning, with grape vines everywhere and stunning castles and chateaux's to visit. It is the Cognac and champagne region and we had a lovely visit to the Hennessey Cognac facility, which ended in Cognac tasting! About an hour and a half's drive away is the village of Oradour-sur-Glane , a place well worth a visit as it has been untouched since 1944. Jonzac is about 15 minutes from the house and there are lots of things to do there, water park with saunas and spa treatments, rowing on the river, and thermal baths are some of the attractions. It also boasts a most stunning Chateau. I would not hesitate to recommend this house to rent , most definitely once you've been you too will be in love with the Maison and the region. We will most definitely be returning to Maison de Lafenestre and can't wait.

Chilled week in beautiful area of France

Thanks for a lovely stay in your beautiful holiday home. It was just right for us, 2 couples and our dogs - who particularly enjoying playing in the spacious garden, whilst we enjoyed the pool. The mixture of authentic renovation and modern bathroom facilities were really welcome and you have obviously given a lot of thought to making sure your guests have everything they need with books, games, DVDs available as well as plenty of local info and recommendations. The pre-visit info pack received was probably the most comprehensive we've ever had in many years of renting holiday properties, and many thanks for your swift responses to our questions while we were staying. Thanks again, would recommend it to others.

fabulous holiday

We had a lovely holiday in Maison de Lafenestre. The house is clean and spacious. Loved the lounge overlooking the church and listening to the bells. Roof terrace was a real sun trap, great for eating our evening meals. The garden is huge, we set up a badminton net, you could put so much in there. Pool was great the children spent as much time in there as possible, even though we had some really hot days it was still nice having it heated. The supermarkets and towns are only a few miles away. Went to the beach at St Georges de Didonne for the day, took around an hour but worth a visit as it was a lovely beach. We hope to visit this property again.

Wonderful Holiday Home, Stunning Views

On arrival, my first impression was that this was a wonderfully clean, well maintained/restored home, in a picturesque village. The grounds of the property were large, with room for children to wander and play, and with a superb pool, in which many hours were spent. The house has excellent literature on the local area, and details about places to visit. Due to the location, this property is perfect for adults to spend time relaxing. The area is peaceful, with next to zero traffic noise. For families with children, you may find you will need to go to one of the nearby towns to find things for them to do, but this is no hardship as the roads to nearby Baignes and Jonzac are wonderfully scenic. This is also true for the nearest shops/supermarkets. Baignes is about 6km away and Jonzac is 13km. The beach is an easy 1 hour drive away. Less than 1km away from the property, is a fantastic vineyard/cognac distillery. The owners are more than happy to provide a free tasting/tour of the distillery, and the products really are first class. I cannot recommend this holiday home enough - from location to contents, everything is both idyllic and serves to make the stay enjoyable and relaxing.

Wonderful 2 week holiday in a house that has it al

We visited in the heat of Summer and our party was 6 people (4 adults and 2 children). The house is situated in a very quiet village with 1 post office, so be prepared to do a little food shopping beforehand! However, on arrival there was food left out for us and a bottle of wine, which was a very nice touch. Comfortable sleeping arrangements with 2 separate bathrooms. Rooms tended to get a bit hot with the 37 degree heat, so shutting the outside shutters is a must. Lovely terrace to eat, although be prepared for the odd insect rush here and there. The swimming pool on site is a really great size and although the French pool laws are strict, the pool was easy to shut and open. If you like stargazing, then you're in for a treat as once all the lights are turned off, the sky turns into an astonomer's delight. We'll be coming back!!!

A lovely week at St Maigrin

Saint Maigrin is a delightful village, very small and quiet but close enough to larger towns (Jonzac and Bordeaux) and the coast to make day trips easily possible. The house is well appointed with lots of space (eleven in our party) and has a beautiful terrace, ideal for evening drinks and outdoor dining. The pool is a highlight of the property, brand new and spotless. Did I mention it is also heated? We did lots of relaxing around the pool. We would recommend this property highly and will definitely be returning for more visits.

I live near Brighton in the UK. We as a family spend a lot of time in France and ultimately I plan live out there much more. For 25 years I ran a joinery company which explains why I love the house so much....there's a lot of beautiful features and woodwork.

We have fantastic neighbours in France and they help me to look after the house and our guests

Why they chose this property

I bought the house as we visit the Charente very frequently as we love the local area and also have family not far from here (I am French).

Why here? The weather is good....so much better than UK! The area is fantastic, so much to see and do and places to visit. The village is very peaceful and we always leave relaxed and wanting to stay longer.

What makes this property unique

The house is 400 years old and there are so many lovely original features.

Saint Maigrin is a peaceful village surrounded by vinyards but also near enough to so many great places to visit. We are 10 minute drive to 2 main towns - Jonzac and Barbezieux, and 7 minutes from Baignes a lovely village with a street market on a Sunday, while you take a coffee at the local Bar. We think it's a great central point for exploring the Charente region

The house also has a private heated swimming pool.

We're dog friendly and the garden is walled/fenced off around the perimeters.
