About this property
Townhouse in Old Town with Harbor Views
The property is one of two three-story townhomes in the original Three Cod Tavern (built in 1680) which served Marblehead's sailors since before the revolutionary war. The building is Marblehead’s oldest surviving structure and is located in the historic core of what might be the country’s most adorable and walkable village.
The building was extensively remodeled in 2012 and features views of marblehead harbor, a lovely home office with harbor and village views, an expansive primary bedroom suite, deeded on-site parking space, an eclectic mix of mostly modern furniture, a modern kitchen equipped with a Bertazzoni oven/range, and a whole house Sonos music system.
Legend has it that a cannonball was fired at the property after a drunken dispute between British and colonial sailors. The cannonball may be buried somewhere in the property. Please don't try and find it.
The property is offered fully furnished.

Great location, wonderful house, and good communication. I can’t imagine anyone being disappointed in this rental. Highly recommended.

About the host
Hosted by Alexander Barker
Although I was born in Marblehead my family moved out when I was 6 months old. I returned to Marblehead for the first time on a drive through in 2019. I surprised myself when I just couldn't resist buying this little property on Front Street. No doubt part of the town's charm for me is some kind of magnetic resonance programmed into my infant brain. But really I bought in Marblehead because the place is just so perfectly cute and then equally imperfectly prickly.
By trade I have primarily been an urban designer/architect and an educator. I've also worked in the educational technology start up space, as a travel writer, doing carpentry, and in non-profit development. A major chunk of my adult life was spent in San Francisco. Among others, I've also had stints in Chicago, NYC, DC, Israel, and South Africa.
The urbanist in me loves Marblehead for the tight scale, walkability, and history. I also love Marblehead's nautical heritage which connects me with the best of my childhood memories. I hope that you enjoy your time in Marblehead as much as I have during my short time here.
Why they chose this property
I believe that properties this old somehow choose you. In this way I just hope to be a good steward and to listen to what the building wants. The property went through a huge remodel in 2012. I'm guessing this was a fairly traumatic experience for her. I've been slowly making little improvements that I hope she likes.
What makes this property unique
I love watching the work of the marina and especially the crane lifting boats in and out of the water as the harbor transitions between seasons.
