Recently, a guest cottage has been added as an option with the main cabin and new renovations including a new well and refurbished dock. A boardwalk provides a scenic nature walk through beautiful cypress swamp toward the deep-water dock on the North Santee River, not far from Hopsewee Plantation. A private community boat launch can be found nearby as well as Pole Yard Public Boat Landing adjacent to Hwy 17 on the North Santee. This property is an ideal get-away for bird enthusiasts, history buffs, hunters, and fishermen. You are just a few minutes from the great restaurants and attractions in McClellanville and Georgetown.

Beautiful Hideaway Home!!

Our group of 10 old college friends decided to have a long weekend getaway and we definitely found the perfect home! Tucked away in the woods, this large rustic home had everything we needed to make for a perfect gathering! The kitchen had everything we needed and then some, including plenty of pots and pans, utensils, seasonings, and space. That stove!!!!! The beds were so comfortable and we each had our own space. The main living area was comfortable and spacious, and we enjoyed hanging out together. The outdoor fire pit made our evening gatherings even better and again had enough seating for all. Bring your own wood! We cooked out steaks on the included grill. The whole place was decorated as if we were in someone’s personal home and it felt wonderful. This is a great place and we all plan on returning as a group again and also plan on bringing our own families for different occasions!!

Swamp house get away

We enjoyed our stay at the swamp house with our family and close friends but would like to call out some opportunities for improvement. The property was advertised as having three bathrooms and it only had two. This was quite a mistake and it has since been fixed on the VRBO site. There were 8 of us and we loved the boardwalk out to the river. Also the kitchen was great a d well stocked with spices and condiments. It was also convenient to have a washer and dryer close by. The house was not super clean and by that I mean a LOT of dust and dust bunnies all around. We all wore flip flops in the house otherwise our feet would quickly get dirty. Since this was just a weekend get away it was not that big a deal but something to think about. I would also bring bottled water as the property has well water. It was totally fine and safe to drink but definitely had a minerally taste. If you are a relaxed family and enjoy being together and near beaches and Charleston and don’t mind some of these issues then this was a great place and of course much more affordable than renting on the beach!
