Lahar Alpine Retreat - Hot Tub, Mountain Views & Secluded Bush Setting
A piece of alpine paradise, secluded and surrounded by forest, this authentic log cabin is fitted with all the little luxuries. Enjoy the mountain views from the decks and hot tub and cuddle up near the wood fireplace on chilly evenings and soak up the tranquility of this special spot.
This peaceful retreat is close to both Mount Ruapehu's skifeilds, biking and hiking trails including the Tongariro Crossing and only 10 minutes from the restaurants and amenities of the Ohakune township.
Inside you will find a roaring log fire, well equipped kitchen and quality linens. Downstairs is a king bedroom with direct access to the deck and hot tub. Upstairs are the additional bedrooms both with shared balcony access - a king bedroom overlooking the forest & mountain views, and a second room with a queen bed and a set of bunk beds separated for privacy by a permanent dividing wall. The sunny little balcony off the bedrooms is the perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee and soak in the views. Beds are made up on your arrival and freshly laundered towels are provided.
Ski and bike storage is easy in the covered carport while the purpose built drying room make getting you gear ready for the next day easy.
Children love the log cabin (and arguing over who gets the top bunk). For their safety a stair gate and a fire guard is provided.

We had a lovely and peaceful time in this beautiful log cabin. The architectural design and all the little details in decorations and furniture have made this cabin so special, not to mention the stunning snow mountain views and starry sky. Would love to be back again.
Was incredible coming back here after 19 years. It’s still stunning. Has almost everything you need. Can’t fault a thing about it. We all loved every moment and didn’t want to leave. Only thing I’ll change is staying for longer than 2 nights!
We really enjoyed our weekend at this cozy log cabin. It had an awesome vibe and was great for a getaway. The owner was really nice to communicate with as well!
Such a special spot. A perfect, peaceful place to spend a rainy day, or as a launching pad for the beautiful walks in the area, when the weather co-operates.
Wonderful secluded cabin. Beautifully and tastefully presented. A joy to come back to after exploring the district. Fire stove was great and the wood plentiful. Would visit again any time.
Immaculate log cabin in a beautifully peaceful and rural setting. The outside bath was thoroughly enjoyed. Excellent location for access to the old coach road and ski fields.
Lovely cosy cabin in an awesome location. Handy to both Turoa and Whakapapa. Had everything we needed for our stay and kids loved the cabin and its surroundings. Thanks so much!!!
I was lucky to find this gem when finding dog friendly places to stay for a birthday trip, everything was amazing, super clean and tidy, awesome fireplace and spa for use, no stress with the dogs.
Place was easy to find, super private and highlight was probably the view of Mt Ruapehu.
Will definitely be back!
Lovely holiday house. Well presented and tidy. Cosy and warm once the fire was lit. Nice and relaxing bath outside.Perfect for after a day on the slopes.
Only negative I can think of it the height of the bunk beds- if you are scared of heights! The top bunk is pretty high and the lower bunk my 4 year old struggled to climb up. Bedrooms are up steep stairs but there is a gate which we didnt use. Toilet and shower downstairs.
Great place highly recommend. We took our small schnauzer lots of outside area for walking.
Review in English:
Despite the constant rain, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was equipped with everything we needed. The issue with the missing TV remote was quickly resolved, allowing us to spend our time indoors watching movies. The cabin is quite old, which is noticeable here and there, especially at the windows. What we found really impressive were the bathtub and the wood stove.
We really enjoyed our beautiful log cabin stay, awesome view of the mountain, cosy gorgeous little cabin, was lovely to have been able to bring our dogs along & glad we good close off the driveway. Would have been a bonus if part of the green area was fully secure so they had some grass but otherwise fabulous cosy delightful spot! Thank you so much.
This place is a gem and absolutely amazing. Can recommend it to everyone - families og friends.

Steve and myself are Ruapheu locals, living on our farm which borders the Tongariro National Park. We are fortunate to have unobstructed views of Mount Ruapehu with Ohakune as our local town where we enjoy the cafes and restaurants the village has to offer.
The great outdoors is our backyard with both summer and winter activities, cycling, skiing, hiking and rafting to name a few. We love to get out there both at home and abroad!
We are excited to be able to offer guest the gorgeous Lahar Alpine Cabin for their stay in Ohakune.
