About this property

The Art Retreat-5 minute walk to Daylesford, quiet and tranquil

Tucked away in a beautiful garden sanctuary “The Art Retreat” is an intimate one bedroom hideaway for two, on a blue ribbon block a stone’s throw from the main street of Daylesford and all the delights it has to offer, but quiet and private as though deep in the country. In winter you’ll be toasty and warm in the Art Retreat – with underfloor and reverse cycle heating, cosy flanellette sheets, a winter weight quilt, top of the line electric blanket and thick warm coverlets, along with hot chocolate, and a range of teas and coffees. Snug as bugs in a rug.

Nestled in an incredible garden behind the owner’s art studio, this little gem is thoughtfully decorated and provides an ever-changing vista through the seasons. You can enjoy the garden view from the four-poster bed with its luxurious pillow-top premium bedding, sample a local wine in your own private courtyard, or relish a frothy hot chocolate in front of the ethanol fire while you watch the native birds gambol about in the beautiful old trees. The owners of this lovely little hideaway live on site but will happily leave you to yourselves or say hello if you pass by.

The Art Retreat is equipped with a coffee pod machine, toaster, microwave, and lovely selection of artisan teas in the charming kitchenette. Nip up to the Sunday markets for local jams or the Wombat Gardens Café to grab some beautiful sourdough bread from Dairy Flat Farm, or find some local ales, ciders, wines or spirits at an award winning local vineyard or distillery to enjoy while you’re here. Only a few minutes’ walk from Cliffy’s, Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens, the Convent, and the culinary delights of the main street and Lake Daylesford, it’s the perfect little pad for exploring Daylesford on foot, and the off-street parking means you can leave your car behind with no misgivings.

The Art Retreat is just that – a retreat from the everyday. Nestle in like a pair of hibernating wombats or flit in and out like the honeyeaters you’ll see in the garden. Either way you’ll be rejuvenated by a stay here.

Super cosy, beautifully decorated little retreat. We walked to everything in town and fell into the big comfy bed of a night feeling happy and relaxed. Lovely private garden outlook and quiet and unbeatable location. Friendly and respectful hosts. I would highly recommend The Art Retreat.

I absolutely loved my stay, and it was in the perfect location. It felt very safe and had everything that I needed. The couple living in the main house were extremely lovely and helpful, but also kept to themselves. I will definitely be back!

This was a beautiful mini retreat in a superb location. It is a rustic and quaint interior with full private amenities in a very clean and cosy space surrounded by a tranquil and gorgeous garden. A definite positive alternate to a motel. The owners Jess and Ali respected full privacy though certainly were helpful and approachable if needed. Ali's art work is to be admired. Jess's local knowledge was shared willingly . The owners focus however is on ensuring you feel uninterrupted surrounded by nature, being comfortable embracing all that Daylesford and its surrounds offer. The location was less than a five minute walk to the main street so made outings to cafes/ restaurants shops places of art and a fabulous gin bar (recently opened by Daylesford Spirit Distillery) as well as nature walks easy to navigate (a slight hill back to walk). There is full access to a private car space and driveway that ensures a complete sense of security. Plenty of tea, coffee, milk, linen and the heating and cooling was perfect. A nice little fire place that the owners can light if requested. For those who might stay at this accommodation reading the history inside the welcome information is revealing. If you like clean, full privacy and a central and gorgeous location without the clinical and unpredictable feel of a motel then this is a prime choice. Thank you so much for Ali and Jess - you have created a tranquil and enjoyable place to stay in beautiful Daylesford.

Art Retreat

We had a problem locating the place as it wasn't on Google maps. Managing the door code in poor light and pouring rain was a bit difficult. View of TV from the bed was obscured by bed poster. Small table was unstable. Having said that, all equipment was state of the art, towels superb, underfloor heating very welcome, torch for the night and even ear plugs a nice touch.
