About this property

Colomatta Mist, Blackheath - Pet Friendly Cottage with Escarpment Views

Welcome to Colomatta Mist. Just 90 minutes from bustling Sydney city, this tranquil, light-filled two-bedroom cottage sits on a quiet street on the edge of Blackheath, overlooking the beautiful Kanimbla Valley.

Colomatta Mist is all about slow living. The cosy living room is centred around a wood-combustion fireplace and opens onto the verandah, creating a calm space for unwinding together. There’s comfortable seating, a guitar for impromptu tunes, and a selection of books to enjoy.

Whether you’re sharing a glass of wine or curling up with a blanket by the fire, this is a place to relax and feel at home. For movie nights in, stream your favourite shows and films on the LG OLED 4K TV with Apple TV 4K. Apple TV+, Disney+ and Netflix are all included.

For a bit of family fun, the vintage Danish rosewood cabinet is stocked with board games and Uno cards, and for the nostalgic among us, a Nintendo Classic Mini loaded with classic favourites.

The cottage features two tranquil bedrooms, designed with comfort and simplicity in mind. The master bedroom opens through French doors onto the front verandah with escarpment views - perfect for morning coffee or evening sunsets. It includes a queen bed dressed in French flax linen, a dedicated workspace with monitor, and a vintage oak wardrobe.

The second bedroom offers two king single beds and a vintage oak dresser for storage, making it a comfortable option for adults or children alike. Both rooms include ceiling fans for warmer months, panel heaters, and heated blankets for extra comfort on chilly nights.

Needing to get some work done? The 500 Mbps fibre-to-the-premises internet connection provides fast, reliable Wi-Fi for work or streaming.

The charming shaker-style country kitchen is bathed in soft natural light and warmly invites you in. It includes quality appliances and cookware such as a Bosch induction cooker, microwave, Staub cocotte, Scanpan pots, pans and knives, all essential utensils, elegant crockery, and a generous 420-litre family-sized fridge. Enjoy a leisurely walk to the village to pick up freshly baked bread, local produce and quality meats, then return to cook and dine at your own pace.

Outdoors, the front garden offers seating, while the back garden features a garden table, bench seating and a fire pit.

Surrounded by the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains, Blackheath offers a wide range of attractions. Visit the iconic views at Evans Lookout and Pulpit Rock, explore nearby wineries and paddock-to-plate dining in the Megalong Valley, or enjoy seasonal blooms and birdwatching along the Fairfax Heritage Walking Track.

This retreat is ideal for couples, small families, groups of friends and nature lovers. Whether you’re after gentle bushwalks, more challenging trails, or a restful escape, Colomatta Mist makes a perfect base.

We'd love to welcome your furry friend.
Our retreat is dog-friendly, though please note that the property is only partially fenced.

A couple of simple house rules to ensure a comfortable stay for everyone:

• If you're heading out, please keep bedroom doors closed so your pup stays in the lounge and kitchen areas.
• Kindly pick up after your dog and dispose of waste in the red bin provided.

Looking for a great adventure with your pup? Just down the road, you'll find Porters Pass, a fantastic dog-friendly walking trail perfect for a scenic stroll with your four-legged companion.

Please note the bathroom includes a step-in bath with overhead shower, which may not suit guests with mobility issues.

** Colomatta was recorded as the name given to the Blue Mountains area by local First Nations people. Colomatta Mist stands on the traditional lands of the Dharug and Gundungurra Peoples. About the host

We’re a family of four from Sydney who have been regular visitors to Blackheath for over 20 years. The peace and beauty of the area inspire us, and we hope to retire here one day. In the meantime, we’re thrilled to share our mountain retreat with you. Hosting lets us offer others the chance to enjoy this special place when we can’t. We hope you love the house and its stunning surroundings as much as we do — our young blue roan cocker spaniel certainly does too!

Why they chose this property

We’ve been regular visitors to Blackheath for over 20 years, and every time we return, we fall in love with the area all over again. The Upper Blue Mountains area offers natural beauty in a relaxed atmosphere. From the sweeping views of the Kanimbla and Megalong Valleys to the stunning bushland and dramatic cliffs, it’s a place that invites you to slow down, connect with nature, and feel like a world away from everything. We especially enjoy the cold weather, which brings that magical Christmas feeling in July. There’s something romantic about the mist hugging the valleys, the crisp air, and the cosy fires that make winter here so inviting. It’s a time to linger and savour every moment.

After two decades of visits, we still feel like there’s always something new to discover—and we’re sure you will too. If you’re seeking a true escape, this tranquil corner of the Blue Mountains offers the perfect setting to unwind, explore, and be inspired.

What makes this property unique

Colomatta Mist offers a peaceful retreat with views over the Kanimbla Valley and surrounding bushland. Unlike many properties in the area, we welcome pets, so you can bring your furry friends along. Inside, the cottage has a cosy wood fireplace, perfect for cooler months. With two quiet bedrooms and a lovely deck, our mountain getaway combines comfort and charm. The kitchen, though rustic, is equipped with high-quality cookware, crockery, and utensils. Outdoors, the well-kept garden creates a private, tranquil atmosphere, while the fire pit in the back garden is perfect for cosy nights under the stars. It’s the ideal place to unwind and enjoy the beauty of the Blue Mountains.
