About this property

Private Forest Cabin Retreat with Sauna, Plunge & Hiking Trails

We welcome you to Hytte Away, a thoughtfully designed private cabin retreat for two located on 54 acres of forest land. Offering you the opportunity to disconnect and reconnect.

The property features hiking trails (currently being worked on from ice storm) an amazing sauna and cold plunge experience and the perfect little cabin to do some actual relaxing.

The space is unique and the best approach is to think of it as a glamping experience.

The Cabin is equipped with Canadian owned products such as fable home, tuck bedding, Silk & Snow, Pokoloko, Obasan sleep and many more!

The land itself is classified as a managed forest. Therefore we have left the forest relatively untouched. Walking trails have been created through the property as it was once used as a logging forest. Trails are marked and to be used at your own risk. We strongly encourage that you wear the proper hiking attire before trekking out. We are connected to a conservation trail system, which means you could cross paths with neighbours on the trails. If bringing a pet with you, please bring a leash just in case.

Please note that if you are booking during the spring/summer that this is buggy season. Since the forest is dense you will encounter mosquitoes and other insects during this time. We do our best to mitigate around the structures and offer bug repellent spray/devices etc.

The Log Cabin (separate from the sleeping cabin) serves as a hangout zone where you can really disconnect. We invite you to unwind, have a glass of wine, a cup of tea, read a book, play a board game, whatever serves you best!

Please note that wifi does not work in the Log Cabin (we were serious about the disconnecting thing 😄). If you would like to play some music in the Log Cabin (definitely recommend), ensure to download your favourite tunes and connect to the Bose speaker.

Further down the path you will see the Sauna and cold plunge (a little walk from the sleeping cabin). Once the chilly weather sets in the plunge will be turned off to avoid any pipe damage. Plunge will be turned back on once the weather begins to warm up (generally sometime in April).

Cell service is extremely limited at the property and might not even work with some providers. The sleeping cabin is connected to wifi.

Couple items that we DO NOT provide:

BBQ: Instead we have a grill and cast iron pan for the fire pit that can be used for outdoor cooking. This may require shovelling during the winter.

TV: The space was designed to take time away from screens, but feel free to bring your tablet or lap top and connect to the wifi if you just can't miss that episode, we get it!

We are a licensed Short Term Rental with the Municipality of Grey Highlands.

Booking Calendar is released a few months at a time 😊

About the host

Hosted by Alexandria Eastmure

Host profile image
Hey, I'm Alex - the host behind Hytte Away! I created Hytte Away as a place for people to slow down, reconnect with nature, and enjoy a peaceful escape from everyday life. I love thoughtful design, cozy spaces, and creating memorable stays, and I’ve poured that care into every detail of the cabin experience. It’s such a pleasure to share this special place with guests and help them make meaningful memories in the forest.

Why they chose this property

We decided that we wanted to have a place in the forest because we always felt better going for hikes in nature. We also love the rolling hills as you explore nearby towns like Thornbury.

What makes this property unique

Our place is unique in the sense that it has on site trails, this may seem like a weird reason to stand out but it is extremely rare to have trails on your own property like we do.
