Such a lovely cabin, the perfect place to have our wedding :) Larry was a fantastic host and very accommodating, we had a fantastic time and so did our guests!!
Amazing house and experience!Larry is the best host! There was a big storm that hit the canyon and Larry was hard at work plowing out the driveway when we got back from skiing for the day! Above and beyond host!
Stunning home and property in Big Cottonwood Canyon! We loved listening to the stream and looking up at the stars during our stay. Convenient location early in the canyon.
We had a small wedding here and it was lovely! Being by the stream was magical and added to the ambiance- the beds were comfortable and the greenery truly made for a stunning backdrop.
It is a beautiful home that has been built by a creek. Wonderful sound of flowing water. I love the attention to detail when the cabin was built. You should enjoy your stay! We certainly did!
An absolutely stunning property in a gorgeous location! Larry, the owner and manager, was a wonderful host and a pleasure to work with. My husband and I chose this home for our small wedding dinner, and Larry kindly allowed us to visit beforehand to measure and ensure it would meet our needs. His instructions for the space were clear, and the property had everything we needed. We would absolutely recommend and stay again!
The home was wonderful. Everything was as advertised and the host was very communicative and helpful! The hot tub is huge and hot. Great stay for my buddies and I to just hang out for the weekend and snowboard
The home is such a unique, thoughtfully outfitted home. Perfect for a quiet getaway to escape the business and noise of daily life. Comfortable beds, helpful host.
The property owner, Larry, was outstanding. He had accurate information and was a great communicator before and during our stay. The cabin was perfect for us. The river is 50 feet from the front door. The fireplace warmed us up each night great and the kitchen was very stocked for making meals. The trailhead to Blanche Lake (photos in this review) was a 15 min walk away.
the cabin was in a beautiful setting, we didn’t have heat but we made the best of it.

Response from VrboOwner on 16 May, 2025
The furnace broke just before Troy and his friends arrived and we had to special-order replacement parts. We did provide a discount because of the inconvenience, but they are well justified in observing that inconvenience. They were excellent guests and we appreciated them. The furnace has now been repaired and is functioning as it has for the last many years.
We stayed for a weekend to go snowboarding at one of the nearby resorts and it was a beautiful cabin! Also it was great that the owner checked the levels in the hot tub for us and was so delightful to talk to! Will definitely be staying here again maybe in the summer next time to do some hiking at the nearby trails, highly recommend staying here!
We had an amazing time at the cabin. It was absolutely gorgeous and clean. We found everything we needed and Larry was so kind to plow the driveway for us to be able to get out safely.
Little piece of heaven just far enough away from the city for you to appreciate “time away”. Options of the city just a few minutes down the mountain but please save yourself the trip…bring drinking water (home is creek fed), bring your food for meals and good hiking shoes. You will never want to leave the property and could not ask for better views!

About the host
Hosted by Larry Perkins
Larry and Gayle have lived in Salt Lake for some 30 years. Larry moved to Salt Lake City after working as an international banker in Australia, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, Nigeria, Saudia Arabia, and Greece. He was lucky enough to meet Gayle -- who grew up in Las Vegas, majored in Psychology and Early Childhood Education, co-authored a book titled "Merely Mothering and Other Myths," and whose interests in astronomy and science have enriched the lives of him and many others. They have a blended family with 10 adult children and 19 Grandchildren.
Why they chose this property
A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT! Wake up each morning to the sounds of TWO babbling streams that bracket the cabin! If you're looking to escape the bustle and heat of the valley you can be relaxing next to a stream or nestled up to a warm fireplace in less than 15 minutes from Salt Lake (30 min from Salt Lake International Airport).
Whether you are looking for a perfect ski vacation in the winter, a mountain bike adventure in the summer or just a romantic getaway anytime of year for a few nights, this cabin will be the perfect destination.
What makes this property unique
Sure, you can rent a house or condo in Salt Lake City and then drive to the ski resorts or beautiful mountains or other attractions of this lovely area. But for a Real Vacation, those alternatives are Nothing Like a private cabin (on the river, in the mountains) that is easily accessible but feels like you are in the middle of Nature. Walk out the back door and hike as high as you want to . Or hike up along the stream behind the cabin (you'll have to break your own trail in many sections) several miles to its source at Lake Blanche [alternatively, you can go up the road in front of the cabin for 3 or 4 hundred yards to the main Lake Blanch trailhead -- from which it is about a 3.5 mile hike {one way, with a 2600 foot elevation change} on a well groomed trail to reach Lake Blanche. Beautiful view of Sundial Peak, and access to Lake Lillian and another small lake below Lake Blanche
