About this property

4/2 with gorgeous views on Little Lagoon. Screened porch, pier, and more!

This beautiful waterfront cottage sits on the north side of Little Lagoon. About five miles down Ft. Morgan Rd, its elevated screened porch makes it easy to avail yourself of the steady breezes that lull lagoon dwellers by day and night. Swim, fish or ski in the calm waters or take a short drive to the white sandy gulf beach. Avid golfers will love being just across the street from the Peninsula Golf Course. A walking/biking trail that runs all the way up to town, through the State Park and beyond to Orange Beach is also just across the street.

Split floor plan with two bedrooms and a bath on each side. The two waterfront rooms have queen beds and French doors leading out onto the screened porch. The other two bedrooms have two twin beds each. The great room in the center of the house contains a huge kitchen, comfortable seating and a large dining area where you can share good times with family and friends. Downstairs under the house is parking for one car and enough space left over to relax in our swing. (The owners also keep their beach buggy and boat under the other side.) Not to worry, there is room to park two extra cars to the east of the drive.

We have two grills, a smaller charcoal and a larger gas grill. Have a family cookout and dine with a view of the water! Also downstairs is an outdoor shower and hose for rinsing off the sand.

Just up the road, the City of Gulf Shores has a fantastic recreation center with daily, weekly, or monthly rates. It features an indoor temperature controlled swimming pool, basketball courts, fitness room, indoor track, ping pong and pool tables, water aerobics, yoga and other fitness classes. In the winter the city's Special Events Department sponsors an outstanding series of performances.

Golfers Paradise: Who could ask for more than waterfront and a top of the line golf course! The Peninsula Golf Club is located just across the street. It features 18 holes, a pro shop, and restaurant. In addition you will find tennis courts and a swim fitness center. If you want to change things up a bit try the 36 holes of Pure Palmer Golf at Craft Farms, Cotton Creek, and Cypress Bend just a 10 minute drive away. Want more? Play Kiva Dunes or the Golf Club of the Wharf; both are just five miles away.

Shop till you drop: Shop over 120 brand name outlets on Hwy 59 in Foley!! Brooks Brothers, Gap, Polo, Ann Taylor and more draw shoppers from miles around. From housewares, to clothing, to home furnishing, there is something for everyone at the Tanger Outlet mall just 10 miles north in Foley.

Flying South for the Winter? This house is the perfect place for snowbirds and it is big enough to share with a second couple for a real winter bargain.

Host profile image
I am a Baldwin County native who grew up in Foley. Our family spent many a day on Little Lagoon fishing, swimming and sailing in its shallow waters. My family and I now live in Colorado but we come back frequently to enjoy life on the lagoon with our friends and family.

Why they chose this property

My parents, Bob and Gene Thompson, purchased the original beach house in the 1950’s. Most of the cottages in this area were built with materials from disassembled WWII Army barracks located at Fort Morgan. Our cottage was a simple structure with concrete floors, cinder block walls, screen porches and a metal roof. For decades, our family enjoyed spending long summers in the cottage involved in our favorite activities of swimming, sailing and shrimping. It was a grand time and simple life complete with candlelight dinners, games, campfires and neighborhood gatherings. The cottage was destroyed by hurricanes, Ivan and Katrina in 2004 and 2005. Gene’s Mermaid Lagoon Cottage was rebuilt in 2007 in honor of my parents’ love for this beach. It is my hope that everyone who visits will treasure this part of the world as I do.

My family and I welcome you to come and stay in our paradise, where you can relax and play.
Sarah Thompson Doig

What makes this property unique

This home has breathtaking views of the shallow blue water of Little Lagoon. With its sandy bottom and no riptides it is great for children. The dock is great for sunning and watching the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Just 4 miles from the Bon Secour National Wildlife Preserve, the white sandy gulf beach offers miles of nature's pristine shore . The riding-walking path across the street meanders from the Peninsula subdivision to Orange Beach. Great golf is just across the street at the Peninsula Golf Club and you are only 10 minutes from restaurants shops and the gulf beaches. A perfect get away!
