We were in the Black Hills for State Cross Country. The house was an easy 30 minutes from Rapid City. Perfect place for our family. It was quiet, clean and comfortable. Lovely place to spend some quality time with family and enjoy the outdoors.
Great property! Fully stocked with everything you need in the bathrooms and kitchen. Conveniently located - walking distance to downtown Hill City and the George Mickelson Trail. Quiet neighborhood with little traffic. Easy checkin and checkout process. Overall great experience!
Enjoyed our stay overall. Property was well stocked with supplies and linens. Beds were comfortable. Very quiet neighborhood and we enjoyed the beautiful woods and deer right behind the property. Parking space is much smaller and shallower than it appeared in listing. But the property owner directed us to another rental to park ATV trailers. Outside stairs are a bit treacherous as the pavers are uneven and some loose. Inside spiral stairs are very narrow so access to upstairs would be difficult for anyone with a mobility issue. Living room furniture, both up and down, is not in great condition (stained and a broken couch).
The location of this property was great for all the big attractions we wanted to see in the area (Mount Rushmore, Sylvan Lake, Black Elk Peak, Custer State Park, Needles Highway). Downtown Hill City is not that far & is approximately a 15-20 minute walk or under a 5 minute drive. It was our first time in Hill City and we enjoyed the Lost Cabin Brew Co./Beer Garden, the food at Lemon Grass & the pizza from Exxon (great service). Krull’s Market is close for groceries. The couches & chairs could use upgrades, that would’ve made the stay more comfortable. The outside yard was really nice & the scenery was great. We saw a family of deer in the backyard & across the road.
Overall, a great location for the 1880 Train and Mickelson Trail or anywhere else you'd adventure in the Black Hills. The house is in a quiet neighborhood and was easy to find. There was plenty of room and the kitchen was well stock with the essentials. There is a spiral staircase from the upstairs to the lower level, so use care utilizing it and watch children closely to prevent slipping. It would also be difficult for an elderly person to navigate.
We enjoyed our stay. It was perfect for my family of 4 but won’t want a bigger group staying due to limited large group seating area. There were some minor things when we arrived (due to previous long-term renters) that were quickly taken care of by the owner. Refrigerator wasn’t cleaned out yet, but the rest of the house was clean. It was close to so many things in the southern Black Hills area. Owner was easy to get ahold of with needs and he also recommended some great restaurants to try out.
Very nice property, newly renovated. Beautiful landscaping. Accommodating with our requests when light bulbs were burnt out and smoke detector was chirping. Quiet neighborhood with other friendly vacationers.
Very comfortable home in a great location that has recently been refurbished.

My mom, daughter and I took a girl’s trip and choose this property based on the location and size. It was the perfect place to stay! The house was extremely clean and was fully stocked with anything we might need. The property owner had great communication (even though he was out of the country) and we felt extremely safe. Great place to stay! Will definitely be.
The property was ideal for two couples. It was a central location for all of the sites we wanted to see in the area. We had a deer that visited almost every day.
The house is located in a perfect location when it comes to driving around the area. It is in walking distance to downtown Hill City.
Ken the owner of the property is great at communicating and getting back to you if anything needs attention.
We would highly recommend this place to anyone coming to the area.
This fit our needs perfectly. From here we could walk to town easily. We rented ebikes from Rabbit Bicycles and explored part of the George S Mickelson trail (close by). We visited Wind Cave NP, Mt Rushmore & Custard State Park.
Very pleased..
Very cool house, and Ken was great to work with. We enjoyed the location and ability to walk downtown. The ponderosa trees behind the house creates a great sense of privacy. We will definitely be renting again when we travel back to the area.

Round stair case hard to get up and down. 1 bedroom up 1 down, not great for kids. Hideabed was broke, had to fix sink drain pipe. A lot of bugs and spiders. Would not choose again.
We enjoyed our stay in Hill City. The house was centrally located to a lot of different attractions in the Black Hills which was convenient. If we had an issue come up, Ken was great about letting us know what we should do, and he also let us know about Hill City and places to eat. My only improvement would be that the floors could have been cleaned a little better, but it was wonderful that there was a vacuum available for us to use!
Hill City is a good, central location to see the many sites in South Dakota. The house is located above the 1880 Train Station, which leaves at different times depending on the season. The neighborhood is fairly quiet, we did have some noise from an older, loud truck in the late hours a few times during our stay. Ken checked in with us to see if we needed anything and he took care of a few items that needed attention. We ate in so there is a Walmart on the way from the airport to Hill City or the local supermarket (Krulls) has a decent selection (open until 8pm) . We recommend visiting the Badlands (all day trip) , Black Hills Forest (you are surrounded by the forest so many areas to explore) , Mt Rushmore (during the day and night) , Crazy Horse (during the day and night), Custer State Park plus the Wildlife Loop and Needles Highway, 1880 Train ride, Deadwood museum and cemetery, the many lakes in the area, and there is hiking galore! Be aware of the speed limits, signs are few and far between on the highway, 15 mph in a school zone, and deer are abundant.
