Playa de Papaya, Waterfront Home.

Playa de Papaya is a private oceanfront house on the family island of Eleuthera, Bahamas. Eleuthera greets its visitors with pink sand, crystal clear waters, and little traffic. The island is 120 miles long, and offers lots of places to explore, and the locals are very friendly. This is a one of a kind place.

Playa da Papaya comes fully equipped for all of your basic needs. Special features include a wrap-around deck, a waterfront palapas, air-conditioning, and satellite TV. We have a washer and dryer for renters' use downstairs in the garage. All linens are provided, and the kitchen has all basic appliances including a microwave & coffee pot. The front of the property has many fruit trees, that are loaded with papaya, avocado & mango during their peak seasons.

The house is located along the coral rock that extends around the corner from the coveted pink sands of Ten Bay beach. The house shares a secluded 3 acre lot with Casa Amarillo (our families other property, both available for rent), offering privacy for guests and a cove that offers visitors an exquisite view at sunset not to mention watching as the fish & rays swim by. The island offers great fishing, snorkeling, diving trips, kayaking and boating. You can find tour guides easily on Eleuthera!
The Governors Harbour library offers book exchanges and WiFi/internet packages as well.

Eleuthera offers water taxi access to both Harbour Island and/or Spanish Wells. Traveling North to get to either island, you will pass over the Looking Glass bridge. A must stop for great photos of the cliffs and the joining of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. The house is conveniently located in the middle (the elbow) of the island which makes it convenient for exploring both ends of this 100 mile island. Each community offers unique restaurants and shopping. The Southern end of the island has Tarpum Bay (fresh seafood from the docks), Rock Sound (Blue Hole and nice shopping center), Cape Eleuthera and the pristine Lighthouse Beach (4-wheel drive or a tour guide is recommended for this one) at the southern tip of Eleuthera.

Directions to the house: Travel on Queens Highway, travel 14 miles south of Governor's Harbour airport; roughly 4 miles south of Palmetto Point. After your pass a small sub-station with transformers enclosed in a chain-link fence (on you right), the road to Ten Bay development will be on your right (about 1.5 or less miles). On right, look for sign that has property owners listed. Follow that road for about 1 mile until the road forks at a light pole. Take the left hand fork, up the hill. The property will be on the right at the top of the hill, it has a low stone wall on both sides of the drive way. Just follow the drive straight ahead and Playa de Papaya will be on the left, waterfront.
Rental cars are highly recommended as the closest grocery & restaurants are 4-5 miles away, and the larger selection of stores & other towns are 10+ miles.
The island of Eleuthera offers 3 airports. Governors Harbor (GHB) is in the center of the island and only about a 20 minute drive to our home. We ask that you try to fly into this airport so that our caretaker can meet you upon your arrival and escort you to the house. The other 2 airports are Rock Sound Airport (RSD) at the Southend of the island, and North Eleuthera Airport (ELH) at the North End. Both are about 1 hour away from the house. All 3 airports have some strange schedules, so be sure to look at available flights when you are deciding on what days to book the rental home. Some people have to switch days of the rental to accommodate the flight schedules…we’re totally used to it.

Looking for an extended family-reunion type of vacation? Consider renting Playa de Papaya and Casa Amarillo (#147029) together. They are on adjacent lots, each with a 120 foot ocean frontage. The cost for either property is the same, base rate of $1100/week per house. For $2200 you get two houses with a total of four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and accommodates up to 10 people.

Love the view and location!

The view every morning from the bay doors is what you come to Eleuthera for. Being right on the Caribbean ocean watching sea life swim by was incredible. Sharks and rays were pretty common to watch from the deck and the palapas. Ten Bay beach is our favourite beach on the island so we wanted to choose a place close by and playa de papaya did not disappoint. It’s not real fancy but warm and cozy and ‘islands’. The house is a little more updated than the photos show. The owner and care taker are lovely to deal with and communication was always prompt. This was our4th time on this island and we Would definitely stay here again!

Playa De Paypaya

Our family had an amazing time in Eleuthera. Playa de Paypaya is a waterfront home right on the coral reef. The snorkeling right outside of the house was better than any other beach that we visited. We saw rays, sharks, starfish and plenty of tropical fish.

This was the second year we have stayed at Playa de Papaya. The view from the house and the swimming and snorkeling out front is amazing. The house has everything you need for a fantastic trip, including air conditioning, a full kitchen, washer/dryer, and kayaks.

We enjoyed our stay at Playa de Papaya. House could use some updates, but everything worked and functioned well. Local Property Manager is very good and helpful. We did rent a car from him and it we really liked it (Nissan X Trail). Weather could have been better, but it is hard to complain about Eleuthera.

Nice house, with amazing views and access to the Caribbean waters! Very nice and quiet area. It was about a half hour drive either way to the nearest restaurant. There's a gas station and convenient mart about 5 minutes south.

South Palmetto Point has an Awesome view!!!

This property sits just around the corner from Ten Bay Beach, it’s one of the top beaches on Eleuthera. You can enjoy the view from a balcony or right on the water. There is snorkeling right i front of the property where you can see barracuda, jacks and stingray. We would definitely rent this house again.

This was our third time staying in Playa de Papaya. First two times were with teenage/young adult children. Well appointed home. Excellent water views. Nice waterfront location. All beds very comfortable. Property manager Rodney P is very helpful. Ask host about best kayak rentals. We kayaked, snorkeled and swam right off dock. Saw rays, sea turtles, angel fish. Ten Bay Beach is an easy 10-minute walk. We enjoyed it very much.

Gorgeous view and access to Caribbean!

Outstanding view and access to the water from this home overlooking the Caribbean on Eleuthera. My husband fished nearly every day just taking the kayak out from the property. Carolyn was very easy to reach and always answered emails. Rodney, the caretaker was reliable and friendly. He also rented us a car, which was so convenient. The home is basic but clean with a comfortable king bed, working kitchen appliances and smart tv. Neighborhood is very quiet and remote. Within walking distance to Ten Bay beach. Grocery stores and gas stations are a short drive away (can’t walk to any businesses from this property). Thanks, Carolyn, for a wonderful stay:)

We love Playa de Papaya

This was our second stay at Playa de Papaya and it was just as wonderful as the first time 8 years ago. The caretaker, Rodney, is the best! He is incredibly hospitable and kind, readily available should you need anything or have questions during your stay. We rented a vehicle from him and it worked out great! He picked us up in it at the airport and dropped us back off. The property is very private and the view is a 10/10. Easy access to the ocean and it is all sand beyond the small rocks/coral at the bottom of the steps. Lots of floats provided! Kitchen was stocked with everything we needed - we cooked almost every meal there. Never had issues with power and the wifi was great. Water pressure is low, but that should be expected in the Bahamas and water was still plenty hot (hot water heater had just been replaced). The home is in need of some TLC, but that didn't take away from our stay because the location and view are worth it! They did recently replace the french doors and added some really nice loungers to enjoy outside. We will absolutely return!

Amazing vacation at Playa de Papaya!

We just returned from a terrific week at Playa de Papaya! The house is beachy, bright, airy and has spectacular western views. We did most of our meals at the house, and were so pleased with the well-equipped kitchen. The swimming in front of the house is heavenly, and magical Ten Bay beach is a short walk or kayak away. Rodney, the caretaker, was warm and helpful throughout our stay. He picked us up at the airport and brought us to the house, and we rented a car from him for the week. And the homeowners couldn't have been more responsive and helpful with some great tips about local attractions, food options and places to visit. South Palmetto Point is a quiet, beautiful location. We loved both Ten Bay (Caribbean side of the island) and Double Bay (Atlantic side) beaches. You can find basic groceries in Savannah Sound, and larger grocery stores in Governor’s Harbor. We highly recommend this house for families with kids. Our sons are 11 and 14, and both had an excellent time there, and we will definitely return. We miss it already.

Comfortable, welcoming, and exactly as shown

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Playa de Papaya. It was exactly as shown in the pictures. Communication with the owner was smooth and easy. Rodney, the caretaker, was wonderful and checked on us regularly. We also rented an SUV from Rodney, which worked out perfectly. The house was clean with lots of extra towels and linens, enough kitchen equipment to cook meals, kayaks and floats were available in the garage. The a/c kept the rooms comfortable. The washing machine is new and both it and the dryer worked perfectly. We were there during Tropical Storm Nicole (which passed to the north, thankfully) and had a 3 hour power outage, but no other issues. The smart television does not get any local channels. The wifi was strong in the main section of the house. Be sure to take your own toiletries and hair dryer. The kitchen did not offer any basics--salt & pepper or spices of any kind, pan spray or oil, foil, baggies. Those were easily remedied at the grocery store a couple of miles away. The reference info (local restaurants, etc) needs to be updated, but COVID changed a lot of things. It's smart to call ahead to make sure places are actually open. All in all it was a spectacular vacation and we will definitely return!

I FOUND EARTHLY PARADISE AT CASA PAPAYA

FINDING CASA PAPAYA. CAROLYN ITS OWNER AND CAREGIVER RODNEY WAS A BLESSING FROM GOD FOR ME. I HAVE TRAVELED A LOT IN MY LIFE BUT THESE VACATIONS AT CASA PAPAYA WILL BE UNFORGETTABLE. IT IS THE PERFECT HOUSE TO BE IN CONTACT WITH THE BEAUTIFUL CARIBBEAN SEA. ITS WILDLIFE AND ITS NATURE. THE HOUSE IS SUPER BEAUTIFUL AND CLEAN, THE PAPAYA HOUSE GIVES THE FEELING OF BEING IN PARADISE ALL THE TIME. WAVES OF THE SEA AND THE SONG OF THE BIRDS THAT VISIT US DAY BY DAY, DRINKING OUR COFFEE LOOKING AT THAT SEA AND IN THAT TRANQUILITY WAS LIKE BEING IN ANOTHER DIMENSION. EVERYTHING WORKED PERFECTLY, WE HAD EVERYTHING WE NEEDED TO BE HAPPY. THE KAYAKS, AND EVERYTHING THE REST IS FOR US ADULTS AND CHILDREN. IN THE HOUSE THERE WAS EVERYTHING, FROM TOWELS, SHEETS, AIR CONDITIONERS, WHEN I SAY EVERYTHING IT IS EVERYTHING TO FEEL GOOD. I DON'T CHANGE THIS HOUSE FOR A LUXURY HOTEL. IN THE KITCHEN WE HAD EVERYTHING EVERYTHING LIKE IN OUR HOUSE. THE OWNER CAROLYN AND HER CAREGIVER RODNEY WERE ALWAYS AVAILABLE TO HELP US THEY WERE LIKE OUR OLDER BROTHERS, TAKING CARE OF US AND KNOWING EVERYTHING WE NEEDED. I LOVED THE SECURITY AND TRANQUILITY OF CASA DE PAPAYA, TO EVERYONE WHO READS ME, YOU DO NOT NEED TO GO TO ANOTHER HOUSE OR HOTEL IN ELEUTHERA TO FEEL GOOD, COME TO PAPAYA'S HOUSE WHICH HAS EVERYTHING AND THE PRICES ARE THE BEST. THE PROPERTY IS HUGE AND ALSO HAS ANOTHER HUGE HOUSE NEXT TO IT. CALL CASA DE AMARILLO WHICH IS PART OF CASA PAPAYA AT HOME IF OTHER FAMILIES WANT TO COME, I WAS ALMOST 1 MONTH ON THE ISLAND AND MY LAST WEEK AT CASA DE PAPAYA AND I REGRET NOT COMING FROM THE FIRST DAY, IN OTHER PLACES I SPENT A LOT OF MONEY UNNECESSARY .IN SMALL PLACES AND WITHOUT THE CONDITIONS OF CASA DE PAPAYA, WHEN I ARRIVED AT CASA DE PAPAYA AND SAW SO MUCH HOUSE AND SO MUCH LAND FOR US ALONE WE FEEL LIKE KINGS. I COULD BE FULL DAYS WRITING WHAT WAS WONDERFUL ABOUT CASA DE PAPAYA. THE SEA IS EXCELLENT, I WAS BORN IN CUBA, A CARIBBEAN COUNTRY, I LIVE IN PUERTO RICO, A SUPERB ISLAND. BUT LIKE THE SEA AND THE NATURE OF CASA DE PAPAYA, THERE IS NO PURCHASE. THANK YOU CAROLYN, THANK YOU RODNEY.

July 2021 visit

Just about the best vacation we have ever had. Stayed for two weeks and enjoyed snorkeling from the house everyday. Rodney was as nice as all the other reviewers have said. Food prices are high and this is not a resort area which suits us well but perhaps not everyone. We cooked ourselves and enjoyed the solitude, beauty and serenity of this very comfortable home. We hope to visit Playa de Papaya again one day!

Awesome view, nice house

Spent a week here in July. Saw all manner of ocean creature while there, right from the deck. The snorkeling in front of the house is nice, no currents to worry about and the water was like glass everyday. We have stayed on the Atlantic side of Eleuthera prior to this trip, but greatly enjoyed the carribean side on this trip. Bugs were only bad right at sundown, so that was a pleasant surprise. Ten bay isn’t far and makes up for the lack of beach at the house. The house had all we needed and more. It was well kept and Rodney was very nice and attentive.

Beautiful location. Gorgeous sunsets. Swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking right off the deck. The house is simple, but comfortable. The bugs can be merciless on day without wind. Bring long sleeves, pants, and bug spray! Visited Ten Bay Beach, Surfers Beach, Double Bay Beach, and French Leave Beach.... all stunning and on most days we were the only ones there.
