Our home is located in picturesque Jonesport, a small coastal fishing community overlooking Moosabec Reach. The harbor is home to over a hundred working lobster fishing boats. Many of the local families date back to the late 1700’s. Jonesport is located a little over an hour north of Acadia National Park and the same distance south of Lubec at the Canadian border. Both directions give generous opportunities for hiking, kayaking, and wildlife viewing (including whales, seals, and puffins!). Nearby, there are hiking trails on Great Wass Island. Amble down to the fishing wharf and buy fresh caught Maine lobster or clams for your dinner. Go three miles north where public access is provided to walk the beautiful Sandy River Beach. The 4th of July festivities include a parade on Main Street and the ever popular Lobster Boat races! Or, come in August, for locally grown wild blueberries and the first arrival of migratory whales.
"Port Tack" dates back to 1904 and has been newly renovated. The house is open and airy, but still retains the feel and charm of its history. With 2,200 square feet of living space, it sits on a 20 foot high bank, directly on the water, nestled amongst traditional Downeast homes. Enjoy waterfront views from every room across Moosabec Reach to Beal's Island and Alley Bay.
Downstairs features an open floor plan including a living, dining, and kitchen area with sweeping views through large picture windows. Watch the lobster boats come and go, as bald eagles soar overhead. The downstairs bedroom is furnished with a double bed. Adjacent is a bathroom with an antique claw foot tub with shower. The kitchen is equipped with all the amenities to cook your own meals. There is a large slate farm house sink, (sorry, no dishwasher) with plenty of counter space and a breakfast bar. A walk in pantry provides additional kitchen storage.
Upstairs has a sitting area and a bedroom with a queen sized bed. The upstairs bathroom has a large walk in shower. Two built in Pullman bunks are located under the eaves on the second floor. Each bunk has its own light, power plug, and curtain; prime sleeping for the younger crowd.
Private stairs provide access to the beach below. The yard also features a deck facing the Harbor with a Weber gas grill and fire pit for your enjoyment. You will also find board games, cards, puzzles, books and lawn games, along with a smart TV and internet.
An attached barn with a separate entrance has an upstairs loft apartment for the periodic use of the owners. The original owner stabled his horses here and delivered dry goods via horseback from his nearby shop.
The current owners, Christian and Margene have a long history of hosting beach rentals in the Bahamas and find Maine has exceeded their expectations.
Come and experience Downeast Maine. We are sure you will enjoy Jonesport as much as we do!

Perfect place to enjoy the New England small fishing village kind of downtime - property is right on the water, is kept nicely and the hosts are wonderful and very responsive.

Lovely and comfortable home with an outstanding view. Close to good hiking on nearby Beals Island. Convenient drive to Schoodic and Campobello.
We had a wonderful stay at Port Tack. The home is beautiful, spacious, and a perfect place to relax with family. The harbor view can't be beat! Christian and Margene are excellent hosts and were so helpful to us during our stay. Highly recommend!
The house is amazing! Open floor plan, clean, plenty of space, views (when the fog cooperates, is gorgeous). My Aunt Thelma would be so proud of how this house was restored & the joy it brings to all its visitors ❤️
We like to avoid the commercial side to vacationing and experience the true life. This house was just that. It was peaceful and relaxing. Some activities were 5min away and others up to 90min but each enjoyable with our family of 5
Margene's house is spacious, and the kitchen is great to cook in -- verified by two guests in our group who are excellent cooks. The view is magical. Quiet, sweet and friendly neighbors. Location is ideally located between Acadia and all points Down East like Machia, Lubec, Campobello. We also had a few of us venture 90 minutes North to flyfish at Grand Lake Stream. Everything about the house is wonderful from details like nice linens to the overall feel. Gorgeous woodwork and carpets. Great deck for morning coffee and a soft grassy, yard with steps to beach and a firepit. I can't say enough good about this wonderful place.
After seeing this property on VRBO I fell in love and planned our whole vacation around it. It did not disappoint. The house was filled with all the New England charm and the views were impeccable. The hosts were so gracious and excellent communicators. The neighbors were kind and the town of Jonesport is quaint and lovely. I highly recommend Port Tack And hope to come back someday.
If I could give this place 10 stars, I would! The property and house were even better than the photos. The neighborhood was quiet and the neighbors were so friendly. Waking up to the smell of the sea was just wonderful. This was off the beaten path and just what we were looking for. It was a great jumping off point for exploring Lubec, Acadia, Bar Harbor and beyond. The hosts were beyond gracious and very responsive. I can't wait to come back!
We visited Maine to celebrate my parents 60th wedding anniversary and chose this home based on the pretty photos and water view. We wanted a quiet area where we could access some nice hikes and drives to enjoy scenery. By chance we were there during the week of the Moosabec Summerfest so there were many small town, charming activities going on & we were able to enjoy some of them. From the very beginning, our host Margene was responsive and informative. She replied quickly with detail and really helped us organize our stay. The beautiful home lived up to the photos and more. It was a stunning setting on the water and we were able to enjoy gorgeous sunsets and watched the summerfest lobster boat races right from the front porch. It was extremely clean and tastefully renovated. We cooked many meals there and never found ourselves lacking kitchen equipment or utensils. We own rental homes (and have rented many in our travels) and recognized how much effort they put into making the home comfortable for guests with simple yet often forgotten details like laundry baskets and trash bins where you need them and a few things like down filled throw pillows and nicer towels and bedding that help add a more luxurious feel. We were incredibly happy with our stay and would definitely book again should we return to the area. Thanks for helping to make our trip so special!
The house is great, with amazing old charm. The layout is functional, and the view is exactly as shown in photos. We enjoyed selecting our own lobsters at a couple of fishermen's wharfs and attempting to cook our own fresh seafood. We also enjoyed the view, and the kids enjoyed gathering shells off the rocky beach during low tide. This place is great for a remote family vacation along the coast of Maine. Location-wise, it is about 1.5 hrs. to Bar Harbor and about 1 hour to the Cutler coast. We made both excursions, which are manageable, and we enjoyed both locations. Groceries in town are sparse at best. Machias is about 30 minutes north and had a good grocery store, a pharmacy, and a nice restaurant in Helen's. All of this was as expected and worked out totally fine. My only minor nit is that Jonesport as a town is relatively run down and not as well-kept in general as neighboring towns. It provided a perfectly fine location for us to settle in, but it was a little disappointing that there were no restaurants or decent shops within the town. Overall, we had a fantastic vacation, and Margene communicated with us very well and helped answer questions throughout the process.
A beautifully decorated and picturesque home on Maine’s coast. Lost of little day trips to be had in the surrounding area but the highlight was always coming back to Jonesport for the fresh Atlantic breeze, freshly caught lobster, clams or crab and a cocktail on the deck overlooking the water.
Highly recommend!
A peaceful, comfortable, beautifully renovated and appointed home. Wide picture windows on the water with an island and boats in view. A first floor bedroom and full bath is very convenient and the spacious kitchen and open floor plan invite you to relax. We hope to come back.
We absolutely loved our stay at Port Tack in Jonesport. Exactly what we were looking for. This is a great location if you are looking to unwind from your busy life and kick back and relax. The drive up from Acadia/Bar Harbor area is picturesque. Several times we each commented on how we had the best view in the area. Beds were comfortable, kitchen had everything we needed to prepare and cook our own meals. The locals we are very friendly and helpful with any questions we had. Definitely will be back!!!
This is an absolutely lovely property with fabulous views from every room. Though located near a working fishermans' wharf, peace and tranquility are in abundance broken only by the passing of boats and seagulls. The property boasts a cook's kitchen complemented with necessities to create gourmet meals. Every day was a joy!
