This is a lovely property. The listing and photos are accurate. A particular strength is the wonderful ocean view, which is both beautiful and interesting.
The house was amazing. The view spectacular! We were lucky to have sun every day but one. Had some visitors in the yard. Outside shower was good but had to move it inside for the rest of week. Was a bit chilly.
Best vacation rental yet, the location and home far exceeded the description. We spent time beach-combing, paddling, and enjoying the peace and quiet of the DownEast Coast .
This place is homey and special. Your traveling companions need to get along well, because there isn’t much privacy (it’s one big room with some dividing walls). The views and grounds are to die for. My 8 year old daughter says this is her favorite place in the whole world. Also, if you are blonde, bring clarifying shampoo, high iron can be an issue. The outdoor shower though… trust me… incredible.
Great cabin on the waterfront in a peaceful beautiful spot. Not the usual Maine tourist destination, this is just a small lobster fishing town, very rural. Really enjoyed hiking at the nearby Nature Conservancy preserve, biking on the island and kayaking. We rented kayaks from Sunrise Canoe & Kayak and they were great.
Very private cabin on a cove in a beautiful setting. Cabin is rustic but very comfortable. Fully stocked with cooking equipment. Grocery options nearby. Pleany of options for exploring nature. Great sunset views. Warm and cozy.
We booked this vacation rental last minute for a 4 night stay and it turned out to be our favorite part of a 2 week vacation. There is so much to do at this rental. We Kayaked, cooked lobster in the yard with the outdoor pot.. sat on the beach and read books… we would definitely book this rental again if in the area.

This is a beautiful property in true Downeast Maine, and an excellent place to get away from the hustle and bustle of...anywhere! We don't even live in a city, and we felt a peaceful solitude never before experienced. The cottage itself is well-appointed with everything you could possibly need, just like home. If you have the opportunity to rent this place, do it!

Thanks so much h for your positive review. Glad you enjoyed your stay.
getting up to the loft was hard as the stairs or ladder was very steep and hard for my wife and I who are in our late 70s to do. The TV is in one of the lofts. The cottage would be great for a younger couple with children. It's in a great location and the sunsets are awesome.
Aside from the fact that we had perfect weather, the house and location were everything that we had hoped for. The house is a cozy camp style cottage with all the amenities needed. The kitchen and stocked seasonings allowed us to enjoy local seafood daily. The gas soapstone stove kept us plenty warm on chilly mornings. As a sea kayaker, the easy access to launch and paddle along beautiful coastline and islands was such a privilege. We didn’t spot and whales, but did see several eagles and countless seals.
The reason I gave a 4 on the property description is if you don’t read carefully you will think you have 2 bathrooms. What you really have is one full bathroom and an outdoor shower. To me an outdoor shower does not constitute a bathroom.
However it is a wonderful place and we had a great time. If you get a chance you should check out the pantry before you go grocery shopping.
Lots of spices and condiments.
Great property, right on the ocean. Peaceful, quiet, kids had a blast on the rocks and exploring the changing tides. Amazing sunsets, each night felt different. Beals Island is a rare find, great hiking nearby, Lobsters off the boat (no crabs to be had)..Wifi worked great and had cell service. Loved watching the lobster boats on the water and the terrific views. Cabin has all utlensils etc we needed, lots of room for our family of five. loved the beds nooks downstairs, wonderful to wake up and see the ocean... Cabin is super cute, great place to unwind and feel you are all to yourself. Hosts are wonderful also, very attentive to questions if needed. for these looking to explore downeast Maine with the Acadia crowds, this is the place to stay. Will be back in the future.

Thanks so much for your positive review. Glad you enjoyed your stay.
My children, ages 6 and 8, said this was their best vacation ever. We were blown away by the beauty of the property, and spent most of our week reading, fishing (for pollock and mackerel) and mud-larking right on the property. We saw seals, and one whale (I swear!) and enjoyed watching the lobster boats pull up their traps. The only bummer for us was that we were in fog for most of the week. A few things to note: the “steps” to the lofts are really more like ladders, which was fine for us. The outdoor shower is AWESOME and was everyone’s favorite thing. However- we had a few blondes that left vacation not so blonde due to the high iron in the water, so if you are blonde maybe take some hard water shampoo.
We did the great wass trail and it was amazing but pretty strenuous- a no go with kids. I do recommend a trip to jasper beach.
Overall, it was an amazing trip and we will try to do it again.
We have been vacationing in Maine for 15 years, I stumbled across this listing quite by accident and was immediately drawn to its promise of quiet and oceanfront location. We were absolutely blown away from the moment we stepped out of the car. The pictures do not do justice to the beauty of this home. You are nestled in a private cove with the ability to pick shells and hunt for sea glass just outside your door. You watch the tide rise and fall, see the lobster boats on their runs, and observe all manner of sea life. The house is just beautiful with a wonderful kitchen, cozy and comfortable beds, it literally breathes peace and relaxation into your bones. Day’s catch lobster was a stones throw away, the owner gave excellent recommendations for finding locally sourced seafood. Nearby hiking at the Great Wass Preserve afforded us spectacular and private ocean vistas and harbor seals basking in the sun. We toured a little during our stay, visiting Schoodic and Quoddy Head lighthouse in Lubec but in all honesty preferred just being at the house, out on the rocks, taking in the true authentic Maine experience that we had been given with this listing. Much thanks to Helen our host, we will be returning.

Thanks so much for your positive review. Glad you enjoyed your stay.
This property was one of the most amazing places we have stayed. The home is inviting, cozy, well stocked and the views are incredible. Every morning we woke up to deer munching on beach roses. It was magical. The island is remote in all of the best ways. We completed the entire island hike in a day. It seemed like everytime we rounded another corner there was something more beautiful. We bought lobsters at the dock right in town from Garret Beals which were not only sweet and delicious but priced well. The ONLY THING I wish I had known was that because of the high mineral content in the water in the washer stains your clothes unless you use the proper method. I unfortunately lost a good half of my clothes bc I only brought carry- on . Don’t let this deter you however. Just get Borax powder and regular pods ( no oxi or bleach bc it causes a chemical reaction and your clothes will look like mine.) you’ll also want to purchase water to drink and cook, but just do it. Stock up and let yourself enjoy the true tranquility of this untouched nook in Maine.
The house has fabulous views at all times of day and night. The cabin has a few quirks worth noting before you book. The two loft bedrooms are unusable if you have any issues with climbing ladders. Very steep and no hand railings. The wall between the living room and the bathroom does not go all the way to the ceiling, giving a not very private situation for toileting. There were also a few maintenance issues. During our stay the thermostat for the fireplace did not function properly so we had a lot of times without heat. If it was any later in the fall, this would have been a pretty big issue! The owner told me that it was to have been replaced by now. Perhaps she should have made a check on work prior to my stay? The kitchen stove is also propane and both burners on the left didn’t light. I suspect the igniters may have been clogged since the stovetop was covered in old grease! We needed to use a match to light a burner which is not a safe situation. Another safety thing to note is the exposed fiberglass insulation around the outside porch doors. If you have small children, take note. Lastly, the cabin was mostly clean but the indoor shower drain had soap scum and hair from other renters! The outdoor shower was unique and fun but at least one cold evening I would have liked a nice indoor shower but I refuse to clean up some other person's hair left in the shower!
Photos on the VRBO listing simply do not do this property justice! If you are looking for secluded, beautiful surroundings, and a quiet place to relax, you will not be disappointed! Our family, my husband and I, along with our 2 adult daughters, who are both professional musicians, loved our “working” vacation; we made countless music videos in breathtaking settings, most of which were right out the door of our cabin!
The cabin’s location was even better than we hoped; the property’s scenery varied from the changing tides and tide pools, to granite boulders, the moss-covered trail through the forest, and the shoreline scattered with shells, as well as incredible sunsets!
The cabin itself was comfortable and well appointed; it is not fancy or near restaurants or tourist attractions, but those things were not a priority for our family anyway! We cooked & ate almost every meal there, enjoying the views. We loved the cabin’s rustic, comfortable interior, completely surrounded by nature. A few logistical items to note (we had no issues, just sharing information!): 1. The only TV was in an upstairs sleeping loft, accessed by steep stairs (ladder-like, but more steep), so not super convenient for larger group (or those with mobility issues) to watch a movie together. 2. Sound carries throughout the cabin, so not much sound-privacy, but that wasn’t a problem for our family! 3. You will likely want to purchase bottled water for drinking/cooking/making coffee, as the water has a high mineral content. 4. The Four Corners Shop ‘n Save Supermarket was very well stocked and convenient (about 25 mins from cabin); so make a stop on your way, if you plan to cook meals at the cabin (it isn’t too far if you forget something though), and there’s also Mannaford’s Market in Jonesport; it’s smaller, but closer!
The Great Wass Island nature preserve’s Mud Hole Trail was awesome, though not for the faint of heart, it’s definitely worth your time, especially if you want to enjoy nature instead of crowds! We also spent time in Cherryfield, a pretty little town with antique stores and a cute coffee shop, The Paisley Loon.
Communication with the hostess was easy and helpful. We would be thrilled to stay there again!
If you would like to see the surroundings, search for our daughters, “The Finestrung Duo”, on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram, & you will find music videos from our time in Maine (most were recorded on or near the property)!
We were absolutely thrilled with the house and the view!!! AMAZING view out the front windows. No words to describe it. We walked out on the rocks when the tide was out. The whole week was so relaxing. The house has everything you could ever need. We saw a couple Bald Eagles. Deer came in to eat. Lots of crows. Sooo beautiful!!!I really miss it. Would definitely stay here again, only maybe for 2 weeks....
What a lovely place to disconnect and enjoy all the lulling of the waves and the tides. Watching the lobster boats and eating lobster so often we were nearing our fill. Enjoyed the quiet of Beals and Great Waas Island preserve. Hiked and had easy outings to Acadia and Campabello. Less touristy and so very peaceful. Thank you for sharing your slice of heaven.
Our trip there was wonderful and Helen was great at getting back to us. House was clean and tidy and the view and amenities were absolutely perfect !

Why they chose this property
Our family built this house in 1999 after falling in love with the area and the people of Downeast Maine. We've gone up every year since!
What makes this property unique
The lobster is great and, if we happen to be up while you rent the house, I love taking folks out to haul traps (we have 15 in the coves around the cabin). Also, as a cyclist, the scenic Maine roads are some of the best.
