Dimly lit, no A/C but clean. Will not deal with a VACASA property again as they have a very burdensome check-in and guest verification process.

Not worth the money
The place was very clean on the inside. The porch and deck needed attention. The WiFi did not work.

Hi, Gretchen! Thank you for choosing to stay with us. Our property manager has been asked to take care of deck and WiFi. Thank you!
I thought everything at the property was great. The only thing that was kind of a bummer was the Internet and cable didn’t really work. It kept cutting in and out or not reconnecting. Also it was quite cold because there was about a 1 inch gap underneath the front door I did roll a towel up and it helped. Other than that it was great

Thank you for your review, Courtney. We are so sorry about the internet and cable issues you experienced during your stay. We will be sure to get this fixed ASAP! Thank you for staying with us!
The pictures in the listing mistepresented the property - it was dark, the tub was dirty, the TV was broken (and no response to help with it until 3 hours before checkout), no mattress pads, thin pillows, bunk beds super uncomfortable - porch was dirty, floor was sticky. Don’t book wirh them - seems as if the owners don’t upkeep the property well. We were very disappointed.

You need air
Although your unit is priced pretty well, I missed on the listing where there is no air-conditioning. If you are not going to provide air-conditioning, you need to have ceiling fans in every room to help with the heat. Or you need to provide some type of box fans, or even a window unit to help. I have two young kids, and it was very uncomfortable at night to try to sleep with no airflow. we left an entire night early because it was so hot. And I would not recommend having someone stay there in the heat of the summer. I also went to pull up the blinds, and the entire blinds fell off into the floor. I think it’s time you guys put a little bit of money into this place. It has the potential to be a really nice spot. Also, the Internet was out the entire time so we couldn’t watch Netflix with the kids at all.

I had a very detailed review written, but it seems what I wrote exceeds the amount of characters I have to work with so I'll sum it up which won't sound nearly as nice as what I wanted to describe!
Despite some scary reviews, we booked anyway. I'm glad we did.
Things we loved:
1-It feels like you're in a treehouse!
2-The location is great.
3-The price.
4-Communication was good.
5-It was clean.
6-While it seems to be older, it is comfortable.
7-Check out responsibilites were a breeze.
8-The community is charming.
Things we did not love:
1-The bed we slept in was very uncomfortable!
2-It's very dark inside the unit.
3-If you are planning to watch tv, the options are very limited.
Things to simply be aware of:
1-There is no air conditioning. There are fans that cooled it down suffciently though.
2-The kitchen could stand to have a few pieces added. Not bad though if you aren't cooking.
3-The gas logs didn't seem to work. We didn't need them but hubby was just testing them out.
Based on what we paid for this rental, we are very pleased and would stay here again. We said that we'd like to go again during peak ski season just to compare how busy it would be, although driving some of those mountain roads with potential ice and snow might keep us away then!

Beware of Vacasa; Condo in great location but poor property management
Great location for skiing. Stayed 3 nights with family of 6 on Presidents' Day weekend. Our issue was with Vacasa, the large, international property manager who manages the property. Vacasa states that "Pro housekeepers clean thoroughly and provide fresh linens before every stay". In our experience, that could NOT have been further from the truth…Condo was dirty and there were dirty dishes in the dishwasher. There were no sheets for the upper bunk bed nor pullout sofa (we are a family of 6). Closets had dirty blankets on the floor and one pillow with a big stain on it for the sofa.
I contacted Vacasa via texts/calls at the number provided in my confirmation email and was told they would contact local staff to assist. Note that Vacasa relies on local property managers to address problems ("Count on 24/7 guest care and local teams everywhere we operate" - Vacasa). Unfortunately, the local contact was not answering his phone. I finally heard from the "local" contact on the 2nd night of our stay and he said he would have someone else "local" deliver sheets because his car was broken down. He also said he would have the Cleaning Fee reimbursed and request additional credit - as I had already done directly with Vacasa - for our inconvenience. Sounded great but when we didn't receive sheets on our 2nd night, the contact went dark on me, Vacasa corporate had no answers and finally, 48 hours after arrival (our 3rd and last night!!), some guy who had no clue what was going on banged on the door and dropped off a trash bag with sheets inside.
Prior to posting a review, I had been hoping to resolve the situation with Vacasa for not meeting their obligations under our rental contract. Cleanliness aside, we were initially patient and gave Vacasa a reasonable amount of time to remedy the bedding issue. However, most rational people would agree that a rental property not having enough sheets for 2 of the 3 nights that were fully paid for in advance – and non-refundable - is beyond ridiculous. Since our stay I have contacted the local rep multiple times via phone/text as well as Vacasa directly. No messages have been returned except for some generic texts from the call center and multiple emails and texts from Vacasa requesting that I post a review. Maybe this will get their attention.

Brent, we are so sorry to hear of the disappointing stay you had at our home. we apologize for the cleanliness concerns you encountered and for the difficulties you had communicating with our team to resolve the issues reported. We've addressed these concerns with our team and emphasized the importance of quality & consistent assurance. The home has received a deep clean as of March 2023. We hope the refund that you were given has helped with some resolution for the issue you experienced. We hope for another opportunity to host you again soon, for a much more enjoyable stay.
I rated this a 2/5, simply because it was liveable. Upon arrival, we walked into a freezing cold dark unit. Also to find gummie wrappers, juice straw wrappers, and snack wrappers on the coffee table and behind the could. It was 44° and we could not get the heat to work until 4am and we never got the fire place to work. The beds are absolutely terrible. Only 2 tiny towels were given for 4 people and there was no toilet paper given. The kitchen drawers had dirty or possibly rat poop in them. There were hardly any cups, utensils, etc in the kitchen; and what was there was dirty. The Wi-Fi was spotty and YouTube tv and Netflix would cut out every now and then. After texting and calling to receive maintenance help for the heat, fire place, and to receive towels and toilet paper, we never received it. I could only “chat” with someone who was not local as there was no one local that we could speak with. The porch was in poor condition. There are only lamps in the bedrooms and one tv in the living room. I would not recommend this unit to anyone unless some major changes are made.
Property was beautiful and clean. Remote. Quite a climb in car getting to it, but apparently not unusual for the area. Kitchen needs a few items if any cooking is to happen, however plenty of fine restaurants are available
We absolutely Love the setting of this cottage. The balcony off the living room provides a wide open view of the trees out back. This was a great getaway.
This is a quiet ski condo that is very convenient to Sugar Mtn. The place is a bit run down and in need of some TLC, but the location and price are right. The kitchen is not adequately appointed for even basic meal preparation; e.g. there isn't a single sharp knife in the entire place (only butter knives).

Convenient location
I have never left a negative review before but unfortunately this cabin had a few issues.. The bathroom had hair and soap wrapper in shower. The sink also leaked in bathroom and the faucet handles were loose. There was a dead bug in my child's sheets in the bunkbed. There was a used bacon wrapper package left in cabinet. The heating is extremely outdated. The cabin was in a convenient location and a nice size for our family of four.
The unit was fine for the weekend, just know the unit does not have air—it’s not listed as an amenity. It’s wasn’t too hot that weekend and we used box fans.
Really enjoyed our short stay at Sugar Mtn. The location is about 21/2 hours from Charlotte area and easy to get too. It is close to Banner Elk and Linville Falls, and also has other hiking areas near by. The unit has excellent furnishings and bedding. The kitchen was easy to cook in with excellent appliances. I would recommend it for a couple or a couple with 2 or 3 small children. There are 2 good sized bedrooms with a full size bed bunk bed in one of the rooms. We would stay there again.
