About this property

Private home on gorgeous natural land overlooking tidal creek

This property is located in East Franklin, on five acres of fields along the bank of tidal Hog Bay Creek. The area is rural, and the view from the deck down over the fields to the marsh is beautiful.

In the spring, alewives run up the creek and osprey, eagles, and herons are a common sight. The fields are home to numerous birds including bluebirds, woodpeckers, yellow bellied northern flickers, yellow finches, etc.

The house sleeps eight comfortably, with a fold-out couch on the first floor for overflow, and a fold out cot and a pack and play available. Upstairs there are three bedrooms and a full bath. The first floor has a library with a queen bed, kitchen, dining/living room, and a full bath. There is a grill on the back deck.

This part of Maine has many opportunities for hiking, boating, and biking in Acadia National Park (45 minute drive), on the Rails-to-Trails multi-use path that runs from Ellsworth to the Canadian border, and in the over 14,000-acre Donnell Pond Public Lands area that borders East Franklin. The Schoodic Peninsula (30 minute drive) offers stunning vistas as well and is a must-visit.

Bar Harbor is full of shops and restaurants, while Ellsworth (20 minute drive) is the nearby shopping hub. Basic groceries and necessities are available at the Franklin Trading Post 2 miles from the property.

The coast east from here is quiet and far less congested than mid-coast Maine. Have a secluded home base from which to launch your Maine explorations, and/or to have some quiet time away from the hustle.

About the host

Hosted by Laurel Grosjean

Host profile image
I have lived in Maine for over 14 years now, and my husband Jesse was born in and grew up in Franklin. Prior to marrying, I lived all over the United States, and can confidently say there is no place I'd rather be than Maine. We regularly enjoy all the state has to offer in terms of hiking, rock hopping, local craft and food offerings, kayaking, and birdwatching.

Why they chose this property

This property was the retirement home of Ralph and Louisa Grosjean, my husband's grandparents. We have extensive family memories in the house and area, and I am managing the house and property owned by my in-laws. We welcome you to visit and breathe the fresh air!
