About this property
Secluded Cabin minutes from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.
Location: The Pines is located on the north coast of Mount Desert Island overlooking Frenchman Bay. The cabin is just 7 minutes (2.5 miles) from the Acadia National Park Visitor Center and 13 minutes (5 miles) from Bar Harbor. There are fun and safe bicycle routes to both the park and town.
This secluded cabin nestled among pine trees, located about 150 yards from the shared cliffside deck used by all three Baycliff rentals: Baycliff Cottage, the Guest House, and The Pines. Perched at the edge of the property, the deck offers sweeping views of the bay, nearby islands, and distant mountains. With built-in bench seating and a picnic table, it’s a wonderful place to enjoy breakfast, unwind with a glass of wine, or share a peaceful picnic. Guests occasionally spot dolphins or seals in the water, and sometimes even a bald eagle soaring overhead.
The cabin itself features a wall of large windows across the front, bringing in beautiful natural light and connecting you to the surrounding woods and coastal setting.
A Note About the Cabin (Important): The Pines is a rustic, uninsulated cabin. If it gets chilly outside, it will get chilly inside by morning. The wood stove provides excellent heat, and we also supply two space heaters and electric blankets to keep you comfortable.
The Cabin & Amenities: - A large living area with kitchen (stove/oven, refrigerator, sink) - Eating area and sitting area with a wood stove - Two bedrooms, sleeping up to five guests - Master bedroom: Queen bed - Second bedroom: Twin-over-queen bunk bed - WiFi and a TV for streaming from your devices - Large covered porch for relaxing - Charcoal grill - Parking next to the cabin
Why Stay With Us: This is a peaceful and quiet retreat. We’ve been renting The Pines and its sister cabin, The Guest House, for over 40 years, and many of our guests have been returning year after year. People come back for the tranquility, the natural beauty, and the simple joy of this special place. It’s an ideal spot for couples or families, and pets are welcome. As pet owners ourselves, we understand how important it is to bring them along.
Rental Details: - Rentals are Saturday to Saturday - The property also includes a second cabin about 100 yards downhill and a house another 50 yards beyond that.
Beach Access Notice (Very Important): The stairs to the beach were destroyed by storms in 2023, and there is currently no direct beach access. The cliffs, views, decks, and overlooks remain fully accessible and just as beautiful.
The Pines has a sister cabin on the property, The Guest House (VRBO #887888) and the Baycliff Cottage (VRBO# 1678236).

Perfect location, close to Acadia and Bar Harbor. Love the deck amongst the towering oaks. Quiet. Rustic, great wood stove, all the appliances you'd need. Great shower! This was our second stay and will definitely go back. Dogs lovved the deck also!
The cabin is very private. There is absolutely no noise from traffic etc. Our doggies loved it. There was an excellent area outside for them to take a walk and take care of their needs. Kevin was respectful of our need for privacy. He did connect with us as we were leaving. The cabin is well supplied and well-furnished in every way.

Thank you for this lovely review. We are definitely pet friendly!
The cottage was cozy, lovely, and exactly what we needed! Super convenient location, but nice and secluded and far enough away from town to be quiet and peaceful. Our favorite place to stay in Bar Harbor so far!
The cabin was a perfect vacation getaway! Clean, cozy and exactly what we were looking for. Close to the downtown and the park entrance. Would love to stay again!
This was our second time staying in The Pines, and we will undoubtedly be back. The cabin is rustic, but well-appointed. We did a mix of eating out and cooking at "home," and had all of the equipment we needed. I appreciate the privacy and quiet of the cabin, while still being close to everything that the Park and Bar Harbor have to offer.Kevin is wonderful host, and skilled at checking in without being obtrusive. We knew we could reach him and/or the building caretaker if we needed anything, but all was well until we checked out. If you stay in the late Fall (my favorite time), plan to use the wood stove - which makes the cabin cozy, especially if it rains. Thank you again for a lovely visit!
Thank you for a fantastic stay in Bar Harbor. The cabin was close to Acadia and downtown Bar Harbor. The Wifi was strong and the cabin was clean! We would definitely stay again!

You're welcome!
Location, wifi and clean - I may use that in my description!
Cabin is on a quiet road up the hill from the dock and close to Acadia, Bar Harbor, and great lobster shacks. Despite a rainy, cold week, we much enjoyed ourselves.

So glad you were able to enjoy the stay with less than optimal weather!
Nice quiet location on the bay. Easy access to the beach for rock and sea glass hunting. Very near Acadia national park entrance and downtown Bar Harbor. The cabin was just right for us.

We absolutely loved staying at the cabin. Everything was as advertised and the setting was picturesque. The cabin was relaxing and quiet and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect. We can’t wait to get back to Maine! Kevin was a fantastic host!

About the host
Hosted by Kevin Nealon
My mom and dad started vacationing at Baycliff over 50 years ago. At that time we’d drive up from New Jersey (Metuchen, exit 10) and spend two weeks. I remember going deep sea fishing, hiking, sight seeing and all the other touristy things. Though I think my favorite activity was skipping rocks into the sea. Not that easy with waves and wind. In 1973 the property went up for sale and my dad immediately purchased it. Then we started staying a month at a time in the main house, which, back then, wasn’t much larger than the cabins. One year we brought up all seven of our cats and a raccoon that I was fostering! We’ve been renting the two cabins for over 40 years now years now. The above picture is myself, my two daughters and my mom, who has been taking care of the cabins during the summer. Mt. Desert Island features may attractions. If you ride a bicycle, the carriage roads are amazing! If you like to hike, the hiking trails are amazing! If you like to bird, we have humming birds and warblers! There are also some very good restaurants in Bar Harbor and elsewhere on the island. This really is a wonderful place.
Why they chose this property
Baycliff will destress you. I don’t know if it’s the quiet, the ocean, the cool clean air, the wind through the trees or the sounds of nature, but it will relax you.
