Wonderful cozy spot to enjoy the snow and warmth of a fire. Very clean with everything we needed from pots and pans to games to play. The walks through the snowy pasture were the perfect reset for the new year! Kind and helpful host! We will be back!
The property itself was wonderful. There are private trails and spectacular views everywhere you look. Unfortunately, the house was not cleaned prior to my stay, so I had to spend a couple of hours doing that myself on my first day there. The hosts seem like very nice people and this is not a reflection on them personally, but my experience with the cleanliness of the house differed significantly from the other reviews and I wanted to share my experience.
Quaint old farmhouse but has everything you need. Grounds are great even has a trail out back up the mountain. Our two golden retriever’s loved it! Shot drive up the mountain to Canaan Valley or Davis. Overall great stay.
My family loved staying at the Harper Place. We used the fire pits most evenings and walked on the trails on the property. The farmhouse was conveniently located close to Blackwater Falls, Canaan Valley, and Seneca Rocks. We hope to visit again and go visit Dolly Sods.
The property was clean and had plenty of towels. The beds were comfortable and The kitchen was well stocked. The property is in a gorgeous location with a lot of privacy. The property was close to the ski areas and to Davis. Overall, a nice experience.
Cozy, clean farmhouse to spend the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend with my family. Loved the house, it had everything we needed to cook our Thanksgiving dinner. Central to a lot of activities. Would definitely recommend and stay again!!
Beautiful property combining the best of old and new
We were looking for a place that we and our teenage boys could unplug -- literally and figuratively -- for a few days and enjoy outdoor activities. The house and property exceeded our expectations for comfort and peacefulness. We enjoyed family game nights on the back porch and a fire in the woodstove on a chillier night. Thank you for the lovely getaway!
Perfect home with amazing views! We enjoyed every part of our stay and would love to come back someday. We explored the nearby town and were blown away by Hellbenders Burritos! What a great little spot with delicious food. We took the kids to Canaan Valley for snow tubing and then did a one day drive to Snowshoe for horseback riding. The home had everything needed for our stay. It was the cutest modernized farm house, with exceptional attention to every detail to keep the homes history. Thanks for letting my family be your guests for an extended weekend stay!
Such a great cabin! Layout was perfect for our family of 4 and the living room was so cozy with the wood stove. Loved being able to hike out from the property! Had everything we needed to make for a memorable Xmas!
We spend Thanksgiving at the farmhouse. The kitchen is very well equipped, so we had a lovely Thanksgiving Dinner. We made great use of the wood-burning stove in the house since it got a bit cold at night. The farmhouse is very close to some great hiking and even has a few short trails on the property as well. We greatly enjoyed our stay. It was a lovely and relaxing long weekend.
This was great place to get away. You could stay there and not need anything or take a short trip to the Davis shops, Blackwater Falls, or any other many trails. The house had everything you need, kitchen was nice and big to cook, and all the living areas were comfy. We saw a lot of wildlife. The crab apples would fall during the day with the squirrels and chipmunks running around, then we would have a bunch of deer in early evening, and then possums and raccoons late evening. Eventually the deer would come back after midnight for more apples. We tried to get to Big Rock Point but two trees had fallen across the trail, one from each direction and we saw very big bear scat the higher we got. It started out dry and was very fresh when we hit the trees so we felt it was time to turnaround because he was probably hanging out on the other side somewhere. This was very far from the house, about 600 feet up in elevation and at least half mile or more. Most probably don’t go that far and was very far from the upper campfire and overlook. It was an awesome place and hope to get back at some point. Thank you!
Very comfortable home with a spectacular view on the property a short hike away. Conveniently located a short distance to Dolly Sods, Blackwater Falls, Canaan Valley, as well as a short drive to Seneca Rocks. A special property, I would like to experience it again, and at every season.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property! Great communication with the property manager who was friendly and very accomodating. The location is ideal, close to Canaan Valley State Park, Dolly Sods, Blackwater Falls and Seneca Rocks. The house was very clean and had everything as described in the listing. We enjoyed the peace and quiet and walking the trails on the property (the lookout was awesome). Would highly recommend to anyone going to the area!
Well-equipped kitchen, strong WiFi with great internet speeds, beautiful outdoor area with a large grill and dining table, comfortable beds and bedding, cozy wood-burning stove, and a huge property to explore. Plus Davis (amenities) and lots of outdoor attractions in driving distance. Host was communicative and welcoming. Highly recommend.
My family and I had a wonderful stay at this charming yet modern refurbished farmhouse. The attention to every original detail and design truly shines as modern updates in the kitchen, bathrooms and laundry provided ease for our families traveling with small children. The grounds were exceptional in offering outdoor connection and exploration. Thank you for a wonderful, restorative visit in Tucker County!
This property is better than we had anticipated! For starters, the refurbished farmhouse is the perfect combination of historic charm with the comforts of modern living. It is so well kept, clean, fully outfitted kitchen, comfortable beds, with all (nice quality) linens provided. The property owner was easy to connect with via VRBO, and having the property caretaker nearby if we had needed anything really helped to allay any apprehension or concerns. We arrived to a warmed home, with the fire already going in the wood burning stove, and space heaters warming the other rooms. It was the perfect end to a long trip to the area from where we live. The welcome notes from the caretaker were informative and the information notebook gave us local tips and all the instructions we needed for the property. We also were glad to find a place that was dog friendly, as we really enjoy traveling with our fur babies. So close to all the great offerings of the area, but far enough away from town to feel like it was our own special getaway. Absolutely could not recommend this property more, and looking forward to visiting again. Thank you, Victoria, and Justin, for a wonderful stay!
My husband and I stayed at the house for a week and loved everything about it. The property is so beautiful, and the house has everything you need for a comfortable stay. We loved sitting by the wood stove, eating diner on the side porch, and having coffee on the front porch. The roads were so beautiful and winding to get there, and we saw lots of wildlife. We hope to make it back soon!
Amazing property, quiet country home that was very easy to get to. Original farmhouse that was updated in all the right places for modern use but keeping the charm and character. Owners provide everything needed with property manager available at all times if needed. Highly recommend.
This farmhouse is the perfect place to slow down, relax, and soak up natural beauty. We hiked 9 miles at Dolly Sods, had another great hike at nearby Canaan Valley, drank wine on the porch, roasted s’mores, napped in the sun, and took long walks on the property. It could not have been more perfect! Thanks for a great getaway!!
This quaint but well-equipped farmhouse was a delight to experience for our week’s stay. We wanted quiet and distance from city life and got exactly that. Close to many small towns and great hikes too.
This is a wonderful location. I fully enjoyed the fields, hills, birds, view across the valley, and especially the quiet and the stars at night. The trails up the back hill were lovely, as was the very thoughtful bench in the shade. House was outfitted in a simple, pleasant and very adequate way. It was well located for visiting the parks, wildlife refuge, and nearby towns. I hope to return some day.
