About this property
Affordable luxury at the best village location! Gold Standard! Upper unit.
The Alaskan Reprieve (AKA Prax & Associates)… new build that is only 100 steps to the beach! This property is the perfect place to stay!
So what sets the Alaska Reprieve apart from other rentals?
LOCATION: We are located right in the Village of Placencia on the famous sidewalk which means you experience the village's Caribbean vibe and have easy access (walking distance) to everything in the village. While we are not beachfront, we are one lot back and less than 100-steps from the Caribbean Sea.
COST SAVINGS – Not only is our daily rate very affordable, but you also save because… You won’t need a rental car as there is easy access to everything! Our kitchen is fully equipped, so you can opt to eat in. Laundry facilities are available, so you can do your laundry using our washer, clothesline, and dryer, so you do not have to pay to have your laundry done. We have bikes, kayaks, snorkel gear, floaties, beach chairs, beach towels. so you can just use ours and you don’t have to rent or bring your own.
CONVENIENCE – We are less than a 10-minute walk from every comfort and service in the village! The point of the peninsula is only a 15-minute stroll away and most conveniences are even closer…
To the east… less than 100 steps away to the beautiful Caribbean beach.
To the north on the famous sidewalk… Only a 2-minute walk to the Placencia Beach Club. If you don’t want to swim in the ocean, we offer you our corporate membership where you can swim, eat, and drink at the Placencia Beach Club. They have daily lunch specials and a swim-up bar. Just let PBC know you are staying with us.
To the south on the famous sidewalk… Only a 4-minute walk to Detach Restaurant or Beaches & Cream Expresso. Only a 5-minute walk to the nightlife hub – Barefoot Bar and Tipsy Tuna. No worries about a DUI!
To the west and then south down the Placencia Road… Only a 3-minute walk to... the Pharmacy which is newly built and modern; the spa for a massage that will ease away all tensions from travel; the bank and ATM to get more cash; the best grocery store in the village. Only a 5-minute walk to Bubba Wubbs’s Bar (Grill and Smoke Shack); and two coffee shops for your morning espresso or coffee. Less than 10 minutes walk to all restaurants, bars, grocery stores, gift shops, coffee shops, wine bars, fruit stands, spas, and tours located on Placencia Road. Only a 15-minute walk to the end of the peninsula, where you can check out the daily catch.
NATURE, REST, AND BEAUTY – Because we are located at the north end of the village and in a residential area, we enjoy clean, uncluttered, and manicured beauty. Beautiful sunrises over the Caribbean. Stunning landscaped lots with exotic plants. Early morning bird and hummingbird watching. Mating iguanas and chirping geckos.
AMENITIES – Our amenities are above and beyond the average VRBO in Placencia. A pass to the Placencia Beach Club is included if you don’t want to swim in the ocean. A Samsung smart TV so you can connect and play your own movies and access your entertainment, or use the provided Netflix account. Bose speakers which you can connect using Bluetooth, free Wi-Fi, a small safe for your passports and valuables, a hairdryer, and ceiling fans inside and outside on the patio. Bicycles to get around if you don’t want to walk. Kayak’s to enjoy the ocean or the lagoon. Beach chairs, beach towels, snorkel gear and floaties to enjoy this incredible and quiet piece of paradise.
COMFORT - We are a pristine facility that offers air conditioning - some places in the village don’t have air conditioning and some charge an extra fee for use of air conditioning. Brand new firm mattresses and fluffy pillows. Our mattresses are firm, so we have added a 3" gel foam topper so our guests have the option of extra firm or a little more cushion. Egyptian cotton sheets and bedding that is air-dried (weather permitting) and fresh smelling. A full kitchen includes a 24” gas range, oven, full refrigerator/freezer with a built-in Central American style ice maker, and filtered cold water. A variety of small appliances including a coffee maker, toaster, mixer, and ice-crushing blender for your smoothies and drinks. Table settings including a full array of plates, bowls, saucers, cups, glasses, wine glasses (stemmed or not), insulated glasses, serving bowls, and utensils (knives, forks, spoons, serving spoons, steak knives). A set of sharp knives and cutting boards. Towels, sponges, dishwashing liquid, and drain rack. And if you have to work or be on your computer, we offer a desk area with a comfortable office chair and adjustable lighting.
This little piece of heaven is located in the perfect spot, not too close to the noise of the bars but very close to everything. Located at the north end of Placencia Village, right on the famous sidewalk, this stunning studio with peek-a-boo sea views through the palms and tropical foliage is contemporary, open, and airy. Plus all of our furniture is built from Belizean hardwoods by local craftsmen.
The plants on the property intensify the pleasure of being in paradise. Hibiscus, orchids, palm trees, limes, mangos, perfume trees, and many others surround the house. This attracts birds and butterflies so nature is all around. Some days the resident iguanas and geckos make an appearance. The garden has a pergola where you can hang out in the hammocks and enjoy your afternoon nap.
This is the perfect place for relaxing or for keeping busy. The options are abundant. Sunbathe, walk on the uncrowded beach, relax on your private veranda, swing in the hammocks, or sign up for excursions. You can enjoy the rich natural resources of Belize including the barrier reef, the tropical rainforests, and the Mayan ruins. This is the place for world-class fishing, snorkeling, and diving. You will also find manatee watching, hiking, river tubing, or day trips into the jungle and wildlife preserves.
This wonderful studio offers you the opportunity to be lulled to sleep by the ocean sounds and fall in love with this quiet little village!
Plus, we have two studios with identical layouts if you are traveling with another couple or children. Our first-floor listing is property number 1699427. Here is the link: https://www.vrbo.com/1699427?noDates=true

About the host
Hosted by Mae Marsh

Phil Prax and Mae Marsh hail from Alaska and know the joy of a reprieve from winter snow removal and subzero temperatures. That is why they envisioned and built Alaska Reprieve (AKA Prax & Associates)
Phil was born in Minnesota and relocated to Alaska when he was 14 years old. Phil’s family-owned and operated bakery/restaurant in downtown Fairbank. Phil refers to this as his “child labor days” which imbued him with a hard work ethic and a generous nature. Phil is a trained APA mechanic, he loves planes and flying. In the Alaska summers, he enjoys his Cessna 175 and in September he relishes moose hunting at the family's remote cabin. Phil worked for several Alaska-based airlines and for the Alaska pipeline for over 30 years as a station manager and mechanic. Phil traveled the world and first visited Belize in the early ’80s where he fell in love with the land and the people.
Mae is from the east coast but has lived in many places throughout the world. Mae’s background includes a distinguished 27-year federal career and almost five years with the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Her 35-year association with military organizations granted her the opportunity to experience and enjoy diverse geographic locations, workplaces, and cultures. She was born in Maryland but lived and worked in San Diego, CA; Charleston, SC; Fort Dix, NJ; Lawton, OK; El Paso, TX; Tacoma, WA; Germany; The Netherlands; and has called Fairbanks home for many years. Mae first traveled to Belize in 2015 where she fell in love with the small fishing village of Placencia.
Together, Phil and Mae set out to create a place where others can enjoy the peace of mind they have found in Placencia. Due to the couple’s extensive travel, they have a high bar for comfort and amenities. Every detail of Alaska Reprieve was developed with your relaxation in mind. Phil and Mae look forward to sharing their reprieve in the hopes you will enjoy it as much as they do!
