The space THE BUGSY SIEGEL GUEST ROOM WITH A QUEEN SIZE BED IT IS A SOUTHERN NEW JERSEY HISTORICAL LANDMARK. IT IS A VICTORIAN MANSION BUILT IN 1884. IT WAS A BORDELLO DURING THE LATE 1800S, AND THEN BECAME A HANGOUT FOR NUCKY JOHNSON (FOR WHOM THE SHOW "BOARDWALK EMPIRE" ON HBO WAS BASED ON) - DURING THE PROHIBITION DAYS.
"So this place was a brothel in the 1800's and where mobsters would hide massive quantities of alcohol during the days of prohibition. A gangster was whacked in the basement after messing up on an order, and a young wife hung herself in room 7 after catching her cheating husband with a whore. Also, there's a ghost in the attic and he locks the door behind me from time to time." - Sam Trocki, proprietor of Tavern on the Bay (b&b/ steakhouse). Such a soulful joint with risidual traces of secrecy lingering in the air. You can feel it. These old walls have a story to tell.... In the meantime, present time... Sitting on the rooftop in this charming, but grande, inviting, yet mysterious abode asking the mermaid to direct me with her compass. Maybe I'll stay a night or two and get myself a tasty ribeye and a whiskey on the rocks, while listening to the old sailors docked in the marina exchanging stories of life in the open sea." - Anoynomous

The staff was very friendly and helpful, the dining was delicious. The room was adequate, the bed was overly soft, if you didn’t get to the middle of the bed, you would roll off the side. The double room was really nice. The tavern has a wonderful view from the outside deck. I would stay here again.
We stayed here to attend a wedding in the area. The place has history and character, which was attractive to us. The manager was super friendly, clear in his communication with us, and greeted us upon arrival. Our room was spacious for two people, and came with a closet, chest-of-drawers, mini fridge, coffee maker, and TV. Just outside was a balcony with fantastic views and a constant, perfect breeze. We bought dinner down the street and a great seafood takeout place and had a lovely meal outdoors on the deck. The room was perfectly comfortable with window A/C that kept a good temperature throughout our stay. We were just over the bridge from Ocean City, perhaps a 7 minute drive to the boardwalk, restaurants, ice cream, etc. Overall, we would recommend for a great, relaxing getaway.
The event I was attending was cancelled, I asked to get a different night so I did not lose my money, but the property manager never responded to my request. Even if he was to say no, I deserved a response. I did not ask the event to cancel, and I sure did not want to lose all that money.
Spent a couple of days here at Tavern on the Bay. This is a cozy resort with a great historical vibe right on the bay with excellent views.
The staff were all very friendly and the restaurant and bar had great food and drink offerings. You could also eat or drink in outdoor areas as well.
Located in a great neighborhood with many other local business offerings.
Room was clean and organized. Accès to the balcony was amazing for sitting outside was wonderful. Only issue was the fact that the TV would not turn on. We would have enjoyed having music in the background. Otherwise, friendly staff and welcoming property manager.
Joseph was outstanding. He did a great job seeing all of our needs were meant. Great Host. The entire staff was excellent. They also took great care of our pet.
Loved the area. Loved the historic hotel, the restaurant, and bar. The only thing I didn’t enjoy was the bed. It was just a tad too lumpy. Otherwise, we spent a lot of time on the deck overlooking the bay and enjoyed the kind staff (especially Joseph). We’ll definitely book there again.
I was very pleased. Quant, clean and quiet 3rd floor room (fyi stairs only) above a restaurant/bar. Access to hang out on the balcony overlooking the water that only guests can use. Great views from room. We had some time to kill so we popped into the restaurant, sat at the bar and the deconstructed peanut butter apple pie was delicious! Elegant, clean and friendly. 5-10 min walk to multiple bars and places to eat. 25 min drive to Atlantic City. Loved it!
Perfect little spot to spend the weekend with a beautiful view of the bay! Great location in terms of restaurants and it's short distance from Ocean City. Loved that the public beach was right next to Tavern of the Bay. Very convenient with fun outdoor concerts on Fridays. Would definitely stay here again in the future!
The bed/mattress in our room was broken, we had to put a pillow between the mattress and the box in order to not fall out of the bed. The room still had clothes and personal items in the fraws from previous guests. The door could have been easy opened without a key even when locked. The view was beautiful! Cute little beach rand fishing pier right next to the property. NO BREAKFAST for a Bed and Breakfast, this was very disappointing.
Beautiful location, staff over and above accommodating, view from porch breathtaking and we had the balcony to ourselves most of the time. Host Joseph greeted us with tour and gracious welcome! Great nearby restaurants - definitely plan a trip back! C and D
My wife and I spent a long weekend recently at Tavern on the Bay. The staff was friendly, particularly Sam, who gave us a tour of the house shortly after we checked in. The spacious semi-private patio outside our third-story room provided spectacular views of the bay and a great meeting place for morning coffee or cocktail hour. Our room was cozy and clean, with exactly the early-20th century look we wanted.
The location is ideal if you want easy access to Ocean City, Atlantic City, Smithville, and Cape May, and Somers Point itself is a charming town with lots of history.
We greatly enjoyed our visit to Tavern on the Bay, and will surely return in the future.
