The Bazil Gordon House

Travel back in time nearly 200 years and stay at the Bazil Gordon House -built by America's first millionaire. Circa 1820, this house started as the private home of Bazil Gordon a short walk from his trading outpost in Historic Falmouth, VA directly on the Rappahannock River. The house has also been a civil war hospital, a stop on the underground railroad, a tavern, an excavation site that found venetian trade beads in the back yard, and it is now completely remodeled in 2021 to host guests.

The property definitely feels historic and is a very good location, not far from the historic downtown area. The property had a HVAC issue that caused the heating to not work but the host got a company to come out and repair the issue just after we arrived and it worked great after that. Our only recommendation is that the linens need to be updated as the towels and blankets need to be newer and fresher.

Charming Historic Home

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We love history and we were thrilled to live within the storied walls, if only for a few days. There were plenty of towels, clean bedding and a well-stocked kitchen. Wonderful property!

We were here for our son’s graduation from UMW. The home was had everything we needed and was super clean and comfortable. While a historic property, the inside is completely modern. It was also super convenient to everything in town. We very much enjoyed hanging out on the front porch and the as the weather was lovely. And also walking across the street to the park and river. Thank you so much!

Adorable, fully-renovated historic house! Very close to downtown Fredericksburg with tons of options for coffee shops and restaurants. Booked this for myself and three co-workers so the four bedrooms were ideal.

Beautiful and comfortable part of history

Everything about our stay was perfect. We came in for my son's High Graduation and had a lovely time. The beds were all unanimously super comfortable. We were also very appreciative of the early check-in. We highly recommend this property for anyone coming to the Fredericksburg, VA area.

An amazing background and story for an historic home, that one can experience as part of the feel as part of a visit to the Old Dominion. We really appreciated the experience, and loved the home. For a great price, I’d say it was definitely worthwhile as a place to stay, as well as an excellent historic backdrop and a most memorable vacation highlight.

Family visit to historic Fredericksburg

We loved the location of the home. It was very centrally located for all we wanted to do. You could feel the history around you! The home itself was very well laid out. It was set up in a way that allowed us to be together in the evening, but we each had a room to go to at the end of the day. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were cozy! We would definitely stay here again.

Great house in a great location

The Basil Gordon house is a gem. Well-kept and we’ll-equipped along with a super location convenient to Fredericksburg and shopping (groceries, etc). The owner provides all the info you need in a printed binder. The only downside was some exterior/vehicular noise, but I’m still going with a 5-star rating. You will not be disappointed.
