On the majestic Pacific, Whales Wonder offers ocean views, peace and ambiance.
This lovely, modest, well-maintained home reflects simple elegance, for a restful vacation with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. Eat dinner on the balcony, or in the dining room that views the sea. Walls of windows grace both levels, and the sound of the sea is close enough to soothe your sleep each night. A circular floor plan on the main level allows for easy movement through the well-designed kitchen and living room areas. There is enough room to dance or do yoga, with a modest media center for music. The two upstairs bedrooms feature comfortably firm queen beds. The downstairs bedroom is setup with bunk beds for adults or children, in a roomy space with sea vistas and sea sounds. The downstairs family room, with a keyboard, books, games and puzzles allows teens to have a space to themselves, if desired. There are sometimes harbor seals on the beach at low tide, near the mouth of the Alsea Bay, within walking distance from the beach entry at Bayshore. The Alsea Bay is popular for crabbing and fishing and there are boats and crab pots to rent at the local marina. There is a stunning amount of bird life on the beaches, with sightings of pelicans, eagles, marbled murrelets, willets, great blue herons, sandpipers, plovers, cormorants, oystercatchers, terns, gulls, swallows, hummingbirds, cedar waxwings and more. Beautiful songbird calls are present mornings and evenings in spring and summer at Whales Wonder. Owner offers a compendium of interesting places to visit, once your vacation is booked. Natural simplicity is embraced at our "home away from home" and we hope all of our guests enjoy the ambiance. If you can please make an "inquiry" with your chosen dates, rather than an immediate "booking", it will enhance the Vrbo process with this attractive beach home.

Thanks for coming to visit our coastal home. We are so glad you had a relaxing and comfortable experience. Guests like you make Vrbo a successful on-line venue.
Very clean rental. Nice view! Only negative was the old family room sofa. Very uncomfortable. Host was responsive and available for any questions we had. There was a tsunami watch while we were staying here and she contacted us to let us know we are high enough and won’t be a problem. Our family had a great time.
nice 3 bedroom 2 full bath house with a futon, 3rd bedroom downstairs has bunkbeds, very clean, 5 min drive from the beach where there is parking at the beach club at the bottom of the hill, awesome view of the beach from above

Excellent guests who took good care of the home. So glad it was appreciated.
We loved our stay at Whales Wonder. The home was well maintained and directions for entry were communicated well in advance.
The view of the ocean is spectacular! There are so mamy things to do in the area that are short drives away. Lots of hiking and sightseeing!

Giles was a respectful and organized guest and I appreciate his feedback. There is a lot at stake for the Central Oregon Coastal short term rentals. Thus the list of issues to read before coming, to maintain the ambiance of the location. Thanks, Giles, for coming over. And we fixed the storm door....
Very nicely updated property in pristine condition. Upstairs and downstairs areas provided functional separation- kids could get away from parents! 20 minute walk through fun neighborhood to access beach. Couldn’t ask for more- highly recommend.
The home was so clean and well stocked with a beautiful view. I was able for the 1st time able to see a pod of whale from the deck playing for an hour. Spectacular and the near beaches are the best on the coast of OR.

So terrific you got to visit again! So many lovely places to find adventure.....
Whales Wonder provided all that it had offered in their property description. However, what I was amazed about was what the real-time ocean views were like -- as the view off the top deck was gorgeous.....(the pictures online do not do this view justice...!). Well maintained property, all the amenities needed for an ocean stay and great directions to access all that is needed. I appreciated the children's bunk bed in the basement along with a separate space for our family - especially since we had a 5 year old with us. Would stay here again!
This is a well-maintained home in a quiet, beautiful, friendly neighborhood. It's close enough to the beach that we were able to fall asleep to the sound of the ocean!
The house is well-stocked with everything we needed - dishes, utensils, towels, full kitchen, full-sized washer and dryer, bedding, even a few toys and games for the kids, and a small (but excellent) music selection which included vinyl!
The home owner was extremely responsive, helpful, and professional. I highly recommend this rental!
Whales Wonder is so incredible! Wonderfully clean and well appointed. We had a lovely stay seeing whales from the deck and enjoying family grilled meals. Our stay was one of the best ever. Highly recommend for connoisseurs of clean elegance. Beach is awesome and in close reach, less than <20 minutes from unforgettable hikes, sightseeing, shopping, and beautiful PNW experiences- a total yes! Really life changing.
Thank you.
Property has great views and is a short walk to the beach. Good space for families to gather.
All the beds are HARD and lumpy. No one in my group got a good nights sleep. Furniture is really outdated.
BBQ worked well, and kitchen has all the dishes, utensils, and equipment you need (we did stock the salt and pepper).

It is always an unknown as to how beds will meet guest needs. Of note:
The two upstairs queen mattresses are only two years old and high quality firm mattresses. It may be that the housekeeper did not fit the mattress protecter on tightly, but I have slept heavenly on both these beds, and love firm beds. I believe firm mattresses are better for good posture.
The bunkbed mattresses are for folks who weigh less than 130 lbs. They are limited in depth due to keeping kids from falling over rails when asleep. I have slept on both bunk mattresses quite comfortably.
The futon in the downstairs family room is an optional bed. Futons are notably lumpier than standard mattresses, but those who are able to sleep well usually find futons restful. It is a relatively new futon.
Of importance is that no other guests have ever made any comment about uncomfortable beds in this home.
Furnishings are definitely dated and add to the charm of the home. This is a home where my own family loves to visit and it probably reflects that we are dated! The antique rocker is a family heirloom, but the cherry bedstead and beautiful bunkbeds are practically new. Overall the photos provide a good sense of the decor.
I love the ambiance of the woodwork and furnishings and I believe this guest has markedly different taste than the owner.
The home comes with a glass salt shaker and a wooden pepper mill in the kitchen (with fresh peppercorns). This guest purchased pre-filled plastic salt and pepper shakers for reasons I still do not understand.
I'm glad the kitchen was sufficient. I worked hard to make this a modest but ambient living space, for those wanting a quieter beach experience close to many amazing adventures.
I hope all guests have sweet dreams!
Linda
The owner is very sweet, responsive and informative. Although there were a couple of minor cleanliness issues, we enjoyed spending our Thanksgiving week at WW. The kitchen was a bit small for having 4 cooks at the same time, but we managed, and truly appreciated the big fridge, lots of counter space, nice plates, flatware and dishwasher. The large windows in the livingroom were great, and the upper deck provided us with views of stunning sunsets! The only suggestion is to replace the sectional. Thank you so very much for providing us with a memorable family holiday!!

Thanks for the feedback, Cheryl. I hope to re-cover the four cushions of that sectional, at the end of the season. And also will top a few trees, as they are growing rapidly. Hope your summer has been going well. LL
We enjoyed our stay in this home. We had two teens, my mother-in-law, me and my husband, and there was plenty of room for all of us to gather when we wanted to or spread out and get our space. The view of the ocean is great (although blocked by some trees). I loved opening the windows and slider to hear the waves crashing throughout the day.
The beach is just a short drive or a walk away, which isn't bad at all, and I love that you have access to the club if you want it.
All amenities are provided, so we didn't really need anything (except maybe some larger/taller glasses--maybe we missed them somewhere?? we had to use small glasses and mugs and do dishes a lot because of it--easily fixed tho!)
The beds are definitely firm. That was probably our biggest struggle. We are NOT firm mattress sleepers, so my husband and I struggled. Nobody else complained about their beds, however.
The laundry is a huge plus, and we loved having an ice maker in the freezer. That isn't something you often find in rentals. :)
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and have no complaints (other than the mattress... haha)!!

Thanks for the review, Jen. I will consider getting some taller glasses. Easy enough. And I plan to top a few trees this year. Their roots hold the bank well, however, so I do appreciate their presence. You are the second guest to mention the firm beds. It is a challenging issue to get the mattresses we like to sleep on, in a vacation home. Firm mattresses are actually better for posture over the long run; both queen mattresses upstairs are different brands. There is a futon downstairs as an option, but futons are also rather firm. I'm glad you stated this, for those reading reviews. I will keep the mattresses as they are, as most people have not made any comment about discomfort. Again, thanks for visiting. Hope you had good weather. LL
About the host
Hosted by Linda
Hi Folks. Here is my scoop as a Vrbo host. My home at the beach is a short term vacation rental (STR). I hold a license to rent it; there are licensing agreements and policies that I must adhere to, so that I can share the place with vacationers. I will be asking each person who inquires, to read short .pdf files I send, so you (the guest) knows what the expectations are in this beach community, as well as the regulations that govern the county.
My home is in unincorporated Lincoln County, Oregon. A very popular area! My home is in a quiet, rural location with less traffic, less noise (except the sea and gulls) and less lighting. All the local residents like it this way and tolerate guests who are considerate of the ambiance. Thus I ask for a written response, from all inquirers, that they have read my short and straightforward "rules" and will honor them when visiting. They are not hard to follow. No partying, no extra people, no extra cars, no excess noise, no smoking, no cooking crab in the house, no pets, no blocking mailboxes, etc, etc. Once you have read the files I send, and respond that you have read them, I can finalize your reservation. Be sure to read the rental agreement. A bit redundant of the .pdf files, but captures a few other issues.
Why they chose this property
Of note, and fairly important: I sometimes vacation off the grid. So I am occasionally unable to respond within the 24 hour window Vrbo is pushing hosts to accomplish. This means I will NEVER be a premier host, as I would need to be responding in the 24 hour time frame. (Maybe wealthy owners can hire personal assists to answer calls when they are traveling. I cannot.)
And I am going off the grid several times every summer month, May thru October. I camp, I backpack, I road trip. There is no cell service in many of the areas I love. So if you make an inquiry, be patient. I usually am not off the grid for more than four days. I WILL get back to you as soon as I am able. If you are in a hurry, I am sorry. I do have to take some time off and I like to be outdoors where my phone does not always work.
For 2023 I know for certain I will be off the grid these dates: May 4-9 May 30-June 1 June 28-30
I will do my best to add other dates as I expand my travel times. Thanks for understanding.
Whales Wonder is an awesome home in a beautiful area! I hope you get the opportunity to visit.....
