About this property
Groups/families, River, Mtn, Fishing, hay ranch. Forest access and 100+ acres.
Located in the beautiful Tarryall Valley with scenic historic preservation sites along the winding picturesque byway, Lazy River Ranch is a working hay and cattle ranch.
The large house provides space for large groups to come together in one place. The kitchen is stocked with the essentials for cooking large meals and eating together. The gas grill outside helps you grill and enjoy the view. Basic kitchen items are stocked for your use such as oil, salt and pepper.
Enjoy quiet morning coffee from the kurieg (bring your pods) in the screened porch off the front door or on the morning patio overlooking the fields.
During the summer months the river provides tranquility and endless hours of fun for all ages. Tubing and kayaking down the river is one of our favorite passtimes! Tarryall reservoir is ten minutes away with options to paddle board, fish, catch crawfish, kayak. A group of pelicans makes their home at the reservoir every year and bald eagles dive and catch fish in front of your eyes.
Lazy River is also a well-stocked premier fly-fishing paradise. The RMAC leases the river from the owner. If you wish to fish, arrangements can be made at the time of booking for day passes. Passes cost $35/per person per day. If your group is more than 4 or you wish to play in the river and tube then block of the river is $140/day. 24' rainbow trout are not uncommon nor is the sighting of large elk, deer, moose and big horn sheep. The elk and deer come down to the river in late evening or early morning to drink. A skillful hunter will even see wild turkey and sage grouse. At 8,800 to 9,000', the 160 acre ranch backs to the Lost Creek Wilderness and offers spectacular views from hiking trails that can take you up to 12,000' in elevation. The ranch house - completed in 2008 - is beloved by the owners for its location and beauty.
The river is 1¼ miles of stream, bordered by some willows winding through irrigated hay meadows in a gently rolling valley bottom. You will hear coyotes and owls at night as you star gaze at a sky where you will clearly see the Milky Way and more stars than you knew existed. There is an outdoor fireplace to keep you warm and for roasting marshmallows. After just a day or two you will feel like you have finally gotten that long-needed rest. As your cares melt away you will see the world in a whole new light - come visit and discover!
It's an easy 85 mile drive South West of Denver or 60 miles North West of Colorado Springs. Ask for directions when you make your reservation. Its a great home base for day trips to Eleven Mile, Fairplay, Buena Vista (this is over an hour), lake George, Florissant (the museum of petrified trees is amazing!),

About the host
Hosted by Kaitrin

The owner is a geologist who enjoys all the rock formations in the area. The ranch was purchased as a retreat from a work life of international travel and long hours. It has been a life saver. The picture, taken circa 2007 is of owner's daughter and friend.
Why they chose this property
We bought property in this location because it is close enough to Denver to go for a short weekend and yet it is secluded enough that you really feel you have gotten away. It is a wonderful site for family reunions, weddings and small company retreats.
What makes this property unique
We have always enjoyed the fishing and hunting - both are first class. We have gone many years without buying beef. Our children have enjoyed years of fun in the outdoors with their friends. We used to give them each a dollar and they would walk a mile or so to the country store to buy candy. That kept them busy and out of our hair! They also spent hours playing in the river. Now they come and bring their children and teach them the same love of the outdoors that they have.
