Family Beach House – 1 block from the beach!

Since this review was posted we have replaced all the sheets, towels and deck chairs and made numerous improvements to the house including a skylight window in one of the upstairs bedrooms.

Contrary to this tenant's claim, the house has passed several official inspections and the furnishings are being upgraded for 2012. The house is located on a quiet family street, yet the renter and his large group of friends required frequent reminders not to disturb neighbors who called to register their complaints. The tenants left the house in such unacceptable condition that it required many hours to cleanup the inside of the house and the grounds. Bicycles are available for tenants, but two new ones disappeared during this party's stay. Regarding the washer/dryer, they are always available except for heavy towels and bedsheets; an outside service is provided for them.As for the insinuation that I am "very old" and "not all there"? Take courage, find out for yourself!

THIS IS A TOTAL FALSEHOOD. When the tenant first reported this to me, I immediately called my pest-control company (they check my property regularly, including termites, etc.). NO bedbugs were found. Also, immediately after these tenants left, another family who was so pleased in 2016 that they returned in 2017, had arrived. One of the family members is an entymologyst and found no trace of bugs. When I called back the couple who accused me of having bedbugs to report that no bedbugs were found, they retorted that when they returned home the bugs were crawling out of their suitcase and that it takes several weeks for the bites to cause allergic reactions. I promised to report back after a month and did so, leaving a telephone message at that time.stating that the tenants following them had no bedbug problem. Neither did one of my sons and his family who came after, nor did I who followed them,,nor did another tenant over Labor Day. Wherever this couple picked up bugs in their suitcase, IT WAS NOT IN MY HOUSE!

Clearly, this couple's point of view is very different from the other reviewers'! This couple did not inform me before the signing of the contract that the husband has a back and neck problem. If they had, I would have made provisions. Instead, they came in and after an hour, upon my return from purchasing new bicycles (as the others had disappeared with the previous tenants), they told me they were leaving because the husband could not sleep on the bed. Although it was evident that I could not rent a week that had already begun, they requested first a full, then a partial refund of their rent. It was only when I declined to do so, that they found the many faults listed above. Of course outdoor furniture would be wet after a rain; new bikes were to be delivered the next day; and the kitchen did have space for their groceries. In fact, it was they who broke a shelf in the refrigerator door and then faulted me for it. During past seasons families with children have safely and happily enjoyed my house and grounds. The deck was recently rebuilt by a licensed contractor who has conducted business on Fire Island for decades, as did his father before him. The house and deck were inspected and found to be within the law. In 2012 I look forward to accommodating many happy families.
