About this property

5 Star - Executive Lakeview Vacation Rental for those who want the BEST!

NOTE: Available JUNE & August dates require 4 night minimum.
JUST IN: 5 STAR executive home with UNMATCHED LAKE, NEVER SUMMER WILDERNESS AND RMNP VIEWS AND ACCESS now available as a vacation rental. Nearby Trail Ridge Marina rents sport/power and pontoon boats so you can get out and enjoy the water. NOTE: Summer months (July & August) have a 5 night minimum requirement.

Cruise between Shadow Mountain Lake and Grand Lake through the canal to enjoy shopping, dinner and ice cream in town. Go out to the islands for the day in the cool shade and set up a picnic spot near easy spots for young children to play in the water. Even Moose have been seen resting on the islands and of course they frequent the local shore seen right from the deck of this home.

Maximize your time outdoors on the HUGE deck without missing a beat as you watch the boats and skiers go by. Spend a lazy afternoon lounging on the deck reading or have some family competition on the Bocci Court. Hike right from the house across the dam into RMNP and up to the fire tower, about a 3 to 4 hour hike up, which will give you views across all 3 major lakes and for miles beyond. There is no better place to view the 4th of July fireworks than from the serene waters of Grand Lake. (Can only see partial fireworks from house so recommend going closer to town)

Inside, enjoy the amenities you might expect to find in a home of this quality including a full gourmet kitchen with a six burner Wolf gas range, double Jenn-Aire ovens and refrigerator with freezer and ice-maker and microwave oven ... all stainless of course.

Tired from your hike? Relax in front of the great room open gas log fireplace with floor to ceiling stone work or better yet, enjoy the steam shower or air-jet tub in the main floor master bedroom. Game on? Watch it on the 75" LCD HDTV in the main floor great room or on the 65" HDTV in the lower level family room while waiting to play the winner on the tournament quality pool table.

Upstairs are two additional bedroom suites separated by a large loft area. Each of these bedrooms has their own bathroom and each has a ceiling fan. Large Loft sitting area features a sleeper sofa that opens to a queen bed with upgraded memory foam mattress. The lower level has a 4th large bedroom with a king size bed and a bunk bed adjacent to the lower level full bathroom.

We are just minutes from the town of Grand Lake and the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. Grand Lake provides a classic 'old west' town ambiance and fun for the whole family. From there you can enjoy the shops, restaurants, mini-golf, guided horseback riding, guided and unguided snowmobile and ATV rentals, go-carts, bumper boats and more.

Rocky Mountain National Park is home to an abundant wildlife population including elk, deer, moose, bears, porcupines and foxes (many of these pass through the property as well). Miles of hiking and snowshoeing trails are accessible right from the home or short drive up to the Kawuneeche Visitor Center in the Park for guided tours and other activities.

Want to know more....always call first and I will be delighted to answer any questions and make recommendations.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
1. We DO NOT allow gatherings or events (family reunions, weddings, rehearsal dinners, etc.) of any kind to take place in our home. We receive multiple inquiries as such so want to provide notification here to help save you time in your vacation rental search. Strictly enforced.
2. CAMP FIRES or any OPEN FIRES are not allowed in this HOA community at any time. There is a gas bbq grill on deck for cooking only.
3. Quiet Time: 10pm to 8am is quiet time. Noise, even normal conversation, travels in the mountains and neighbors sleep with windows open as most homes have no A/C in the mountains. We request guests move indoors at 10pm.
4. Not a PARTY House: This home is designed for quality family gatherings. We discourage heavy drinking groups from booking this or any of our rental properties due to past problems. We will contact the sheriff which will lead to eviction and loss of all fees paid. Best to find another home if you are looking for a party place.

Quick weekend to Grand Lake

We chose this magical place as it was beautiful and they allowed our old geriatric dog. We ended up not bringing her, but appreciated the concession.

Lovely property as advertised. Location on Shadow lake is picturesque and stunning. Lots of room to relax and hang out. Good space for 2 families. Kitchen incredibly stocked-more than advertised. Would be a great place for summer too!

Great views and hikes!

Just wanted to follow-up and let you know that we absolutely LOVED your place in Grand Lake and the view off the deck was awesome (July 6-10)! We all had so much fun having the 3 families in the same house that it really made it a very memorable stay! I even saw 5 moose and 4 deer on a couple of different hikes!

Best residence on Grand Lake

Couldn’t have stayed at a better place with my family in Grand County. House provides a perfect location for boating, hiking, golf, or whatever mountain activities one could enjoy. Joe was a fantastic owner/contact to work with. Can’t give enough kudos to the experience!

Beautiful home for rest and play!

This home is the perfect mountain getaway! Overlooking Grand Lake, you’ll have the perfect stay if you are hoping to retreat and rest or get out and play. The home was as described and perfectly fit our needs for the 12 adults and 3 babies to all spread out, spend great quality time together, and all enjoy delicious meals at the table overlooking the lake. Joe is an amazing host and communicator and we’re grateful to have stayed at their beautiful and well-cared for home!

Stunning location + house

Our group of 12 people - aged 13 to 90 - spent five glorious days at the house. When polled, our group appreciated the house's stunning view, gas fireplace, large living room, well-appointed kitchen, the pool table, and the large kitchen. The owner was very communicative and helpful - before and during our stay. The layout was amazing and really made it easy for a large group to both be together + have some quiet spaces too. Grand Lake is a super cute town and very close by. AWD/4WD definitely required during the winter. It was a magical vacation home - I would recommend it highly!

The Best!

What a great experience. From the beginning of the reservation process, the owners were very helpful and communicative. Any questions we had were quickly answered. The home was very clean and well represented in the listing pictures. Joe and Sue have everything set-up to move in and get started with your stay. The area is very safe and welcoming. You cannot go wrong if you are able to stay in this beautiful home!

Unforgettable!!

This was our first vacation rental and boy have we been spoiled! The pictures do not do this property justice. The home is absolutely beautiful, warm and inviting. The views from the deck are unbelievable - we spent much of our days and evenings outside enjoying the view. My husband and I were married at Point Park in the town of Grand Lake while we were there and couldn't have imagined a better place to come home to and celebrate with our parents. Thank you so much for a wonderful weekend - already planning our return trip!!

Everything Colorado has to offer in one amazing location...

The owners are superb and friendly people. The property is everything advertised and the views are unbeatable. The view from the dining room, living room, master and back deck is breathtaking, with amazing sunrises and sunsets as well. The location is perfect... close to the lakes, the beautiful and fun town, shopping, ski resorts, Rocky Mountain National Park... and more! The interior of the home is exceptional and offers a relaxing environment, coupled with activities such as billiards and other family games. A real gem. We will be back!

magnificent home on Shadow Mtn lake

Really love this home!! Had a group of 8 adults and 3 kids and had more than enough room for everyone. Perfectly located in the rocky mtns with plenty of stuff to do any season of the year boating, fishing, biking hiking, skiing, atving, snowmobiling or just having fun in town at grand lake that's if you even want to leave this beautiful home. The pool table is a great addition to this house as well as the steam shower after a long day of playing hard outdoors! can't wait for our next visit to this home!!!! Great place, amazing views

Grand house with room to spread out and amazing floor to ceiling views of Shadow Mountain lake from the great room! Radient floor heating throughout the house was nice and kept the basement bedroom comfortable. Our kids enjoyed their first time sleeping in a bunk bed and liked playing with the large lego blocks that were provided. Our only complaint is the very short and steep driveway gets icy in the winter. Luckily there was salt, sand and snow shovels in the garage that we used to be able to get our car out of the driveway after it had snowed and was covered in ice. 10 minutes to shops and restaurants in Grand Lake. 15 minutes to the RMNP entrance. Great place to get away, yet be close to a lot of things.

Views to Take Your Breath Away!

Our group of 4, fabulous friends for many years, LOVED our complete experience at this incredible Grand Lake Property. We couldn't get enough of the Winter time views, even standing out on the snowy balcony to catch more glimpses. The rooms are just as gorgeous as shown online, the beds fantastic, the fireplace---warm and inviting. We loved cooking in the FULLY stocked kitchen and made incredible meals to enjoy on the large dining room table. We enjoyed downtown Grand Lake, LOVED One Love Rum Kitchen, hiked a bit of Rocky Mountain National Park and relaxed in the complete peace and quiet. Joe was the BEST host, even checking in by phone on our first night to make sure we didn't have any questions. This is one of those decisions that you go back and think. WOW. Did we really just have that entire beautiful home to ourselves? So comfortable. So clean. So perfect. Thank you Joe for opening your home for others to enjoy. We hope to come back in warmer weather too, but Winter was delightful.

Great Weekend Getaway with Friends

This is the third year in a row we (four couples) have rented through Home Away, and we all agree this was the best rental by far. Mornings were spent on the deck enjoying the view of Shadow Mountain Lake, and watching the antics of the hummingbirds as they fought for the nectar in the feeder. We got some great pictures of them. We took a tour of Grand Lake for a very reasonable $20 / person for one hour - which was enough to get our bearings. So the next day we rented a pontoon boat and toured both Grand and Shadow Mountain lakes on our own. We pulled into Grand Lake (the town) with our pontoon and walked to the ice cream shop for some homemade ice cream. At this time of year (July), it is very busy, so if you don't like standing in lines, I would pass this one by. We hiked a very easy .3 miles up to Adams Falls, which was worth the walk. We are all in our 50's or up, and the walk was easy for all who attempted it. We also did the tourist thing in Grand Lake, and have the t-shirts to show for our efforts. The one thing you should not miss in Grand Lake is the Fat Cat café. They only serve breakfast, and are only open from 7-1 daily (closed Tuesdays), but the food is out of this world good. Five stars all around. On the weekends Fat Cat offers only the buffet, but like no buffet you have ever had - pies of every type, real English scones (yum!), and biscuits to die for. I am ready to go back for more! Caution though: it is a very small café. Plan to wait, and plan to get very friendly with your neighbors. Chair bumping is the norm here. We were all thrilled to see four moose during our stay - two of them right along the lake shore in front of the house. We also watched the Osprey hunting for fish on the lake, and watched the Canadian Geese make their daily sojourn down to the lake to feed for the day. Only on the last day did we see any other wildlife, which happened to be a young fox and a nice buck. We set our standards based on past experiences: queen or better beds, and a bathroom for every couple - this ticked all the boxes for us, and bonus! Every bedroom had its own in suite bathroom. The rooms were far apart, so we always felt we could have our 'alone' time if we needed it. The kitchen was also well equipped, though I admit we cooked most of our meals on the grill. We can honestly say this has been the best vacation so far, and we would recommend this luxurious home to our friends.

Fantastic Grand Lake Experience

The property was as described and perfect for our family of 10 (4 couples, 2 toddlers). The location was great for mountain biking, renting boats, hiking, and fly fishing. When at the house, the family spent a lot of time on the deck enjoying the views and wild life. This was one of the nicest rentals we have stayed at. And the owners were exceptionally helpful and responsive when we had a couple of questions.

Fabulous views and a short drive to Rocky National

Could not have asked for a better base camp to explore Rocky National. Just a short drive to the entrance and less than 10 minutes to Grand Lake for dinner. No reason to leave though, the views are stunning. Coffee on the deck looking at the mountains was unforgettable. Joe was quick to respond to any question or need. Will definitely return. Magical

This place is AWESOME!!!! We celebrated a belated Father's Day and some birthdays with our family, and it was the perfect place to hunker down during 'safer at home' orders. We cooked a lot, sat on the amazing deck overlooking the lake, played games, took walks, and spent time on the lake. Just what we needed! This home is as beautiful as it looks with stunning views, big windows, roomy / comfortable furniture, great kitchen, easy access to the lake, and the owner was wonderful. Very responsive and helpful. We will definitely be back. If you're thinking about visiting, just do it! You won't regret it.

Beautiful Place

Great communication and experience with Joe (owner). The house is truly an executive style home! Very nice and comfortable!! Awesome views of the mountains and lakes in a quiet setting. Close enough to activities but still far enough away to get the mountain feel of being away. Thanks Joe for sharing your families blessing with mine. The Stahl’s.

About the host

Host profile image
We came to Colorado in 1995 from Sydney, Australia and Boston, MA where we are originally from. We bought our original Grand Lake vacation home in 2000 which provided many years of enjoyment. We moved up full time a number of years ago and built this brand new home at the southern end of Shadow Mountain Lake in 2008 and now are making that home available for vacation rentals. We hope you will enjoy the peace and serenity of this special place as much as we do.

Why they chose this property

The lake view and access from this home is perfect. I have yet to see a better view than this home offers and I am a real estate agent and have seen them all. You can fish, hunt, hike, boat and enjoy any other recreational activity from this home. I fish the lake and adjoining streams and hunt in the national forest down the road. You can hike across the dam at the end of the lake into Rocky Mountain National Park and up to the fire tower which is about a 3-4 hour hike up and allows you to see all of the 3 lakes and miles beyond.

What makes this property unique

Boating, Wave Running, Wake Boarding, Fishing, Hunting, Hiking, Water Skiing, Billiards, Bocci or just sitting on the deck or in the living room and enjoying the views.
