About the host
Hosted by Cheryl Cain
I inherited Big Run Respite’s land, and it is important to me to be able to me to carry on our family’s legacy of loving and living a simple life in the woods, so that's why we built The Deerling- to share the simple life off the beaten path.
Why they chose this property
Several locations were considered as the first build site, but we settled here on this knoll in the ferns and ground pine. When I initiated our goal by sawing down the first tree, I knew this was the perfect location to find peace and rest for restoration.
What makes this property unique
We built this cabin so guests could enjoy its peace and solitude. We ran saw mills to saw the trees (we cleared for the landing) into lumber, so this structure is solid! It is so quiet in this location, and near a grove of majestic hemlock pines (my own source of restoration).
