About this property
Private Beach Cottage on Lake Huron
Up a private drive and nestled behind a tiny forest sits the Big Blue House on Lake Huron; the perfect place for large groups or families to have a relaxing and fun retreat. There’s plenty of space for all in our open-concept house which features 6 bedrooms that can sleep a total of 14 people (15 if you include the crib that’s in one of the rooms). With a full kitchen, spacious great room and first floor laundry, this is your home away from home.
Take in the majesty of Lake Huron from the covered patio, covered porch, fire pit, 120 feet of sugar sand private beach front, or simply from the comfort of inside the house. Watch breath-taking sunrises and sunsets during the day and count the stars as the moonlight dances on the lake on the brightest of nights. If the conditions are right, you might also be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the northern lights.
Fun and activities are in full supply at the Big Blue House on Lake Huron. In the warmer months, you can cool off in the sandy-bottomed lake that is also great for boating. There’s also beach volleyball, kayaking and paddle-boarding. Sand toys are provided for the kids and the kids at heart. When you’re ready for a change of pace or are staying in the cooler months, take a nice long walk along the beach for some light rock and glass collecting while watching for freighters off in the distance. Get your heart pumping while shooting hoops on the basketball net or use the driveway for bike riding or 4-square. Then step onto the lush grass for bocce ball, croquet, frisbee or one of the many other games that are provided.
Stay cozy indoors with a wood-burning fire while playing one of the many board games available or watch a movie on one of the smart TVs. Then head downstairs to the game room for ping-pong, cards or mini roulette.
Want to get in a little shopping or grab a bite? Both downtown Tawas and downtown Oscoda are just a 10-15 minute car ride away. How about some sight-seeing? Tawas Point State Park where you can bird watch, walk or bike the trails, or visit the magnificent Tawas Point Lighthouse is also just 10-15 minutes away.
Please come and see for yourself what makes the Big Blue House on Lake Huron so special, we’re excited to have you!

About the host
Hosted by Kyle Shankin
We're children of Michigan. Both my wife Stephanie and I grew up, and currently reside in, Oakland County. We started dating in high school and have been together ever since. We have two wonderful children and come from large families.
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with this area when we stayed at short term rental on Lake Huron a few years back. We knew that we wanted to find a place on Lake Huron that we could bring our children every year to create fantastic memories. What's more, we wanted to be able to bring aunts, uncles cousins and grandparents too! When the Big Blue House on Lake Huron became available we found what we were looking for and more. We're going to continue to add new things to this property to make the go-to destination for large groups and families and are so excited for everyone to be able to make wonderful memories here!
What makes this property unique
It's cheesy to say, but there are almost more benefits to this house than we can list and you'll really have to see it all for yourself to appreciate it! However, I'll give it a go. First off, Lake Huron in and of itself is amazing! But all of the spaces that this house has to enjoy the lake make it even better! We love the sand volleyball court, the sugar sand beach, the fact that the lake in this area has a sandy bottom. You could say that we're fans of the sand! Also, there's just so much to do here: fire pit, basketball, lawn games, the game room downstairs. There's also plenty of spots to just kick back and relax or spend time with loved ones. And the fact that the house's privacy is protected by a layer of woods is just icing on the cake! We also provide a lot of the necessities so that you can just relax when you get here, and not worry about having to run out for stuff like toilet paper. We like our travel to be stress-free, so we try to provide that for you too!
