ESTATE FEATURES AT A GLANCE

A spectacular state of the art stone pool, spa and terrace with bubbling stream, adds immeasurable ambiance to the warm and welcoming Summers House, a favorite of many travelers who visit Sonoma Valley from around the world. (Pool and spa heating are added to pricing if you wish to heat. This can be determined closer to your stay if you wish.) The house exudes charm. Sweeping views reach to the San Francisco Bay from the expansive deck and living area. Nestled into three, private wooded acres, this gated one-of-a-kind country home, is near Sonoma and Napa wineries, and is just 10 minutes from Sonoma Plaza restaurants, shops, tasting rooms, and events. Well equipped kitchen, great dining spaces, comfy beds.

A rustic contemporary country home and architectural gem, Summers House is warm, welcoming. A massive native stone fireplace anchors the living area. Filled with art, antiques, and books, the house garners rave reviews from groups who enjoy its embrace. As one notable author who who enjoyed the house stated, 'Now I have been spoiled; every other place we stayed in after yours seemed well, soul less. That might be so for all our future vacation homes."

Summers House has views that reach to San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge, yet is just three miles, 10 minutes, from Historic Sonoma Plaza. Designed by award winning architect Robert Zinkhan, and beautifully integrated into the natural landscape, it epitomizes his goal: To create “The house as art”.

DESIGN AND DECOR

Summers House features Mexican paver tile floors, a beautifully tiled, handcrafted, fully equipped kitchen, and massive native stone fireplace. The striking fireplace was constructed from cobblestones left behind when quarries on the property provided stones to pave the streets of San Francisco during the 19th century. Moss covered boulders sculpt the land. Tumbling historic stonewalls built by Chinese laborers during the 19th century have been re-stacked to enhance the landscape, while maintaining the property's historical integrity. Native American arrowheads found on the property also provide reminders of the past.

Comfortable and practical leather furnishings complement antiques, art, and the home’s natural cedar walls. The house is framed with exposed posts and beams. A large 18th Century European dining table comfortably seats guests. A quarter sawn oak upright piano, a part of the family for more than sixty years, has been restored and tuned.

Three bedrooms, all with lofts, and two bathrooms welcome groups of six or seven. The master bedroom boasts an extremely comfortable king bed, and large walk-in shower. The two bedrooms that once housed the Summers children, feature queen beds and share a bathroom accessible from both bedrooms. Each bedroom includes a private sink and vanity.

An enormous deck, with a jarrah wood outdoor dining table, spans the south side of the house and captures views of Mt. Tamalpais, the San Francisco Bay, and the Golden Gate Bridge. Views can be enjoyed from the living and dining areas as well. Sunsets are breathtaking.

LOCATION

Wind up one of the most scenic country roads in Sonoma to reach Summers House, located on a private country property in east side Sonoma. Drive through vineyards, and climb up into the hills where the house is nestled on a wooded hillside where wildlife abounds. Drive slowly as the road is a hiker's paradise and wildlife crossing. Upon arrival an electronic gate will grant you admission. Fenced in the same cedar which clads its buildings, the property offers a private retreat.

Lovely place
A lovely home in an unusually secluded site with tranquility and lovely views. It is somewhat remote but 12 minutes from Sonoma Plaza via a long, very windy road with beautiful vistas. Definitely 5 stars!
