Beautiful vistas and a wonderful, welcoming space are only the beginning for this great rental. The owners are engaging and hospitable, answering questions, making tourism recommendations and being constantly available. Loved our time here and plan to return.
This property is our absolute favorite vacation rental that we’ve ever visited!! 10/10! Our young son enjoyed being so close to horses, chickens, and the cutest pig, Hamlet. Such a wonderful property for young families!! We liked it so much that we’ve already booked our return :)
Wonderful apartment above a barn with drop dead beautiful views of gorgeous mountains. Fabulous for my whole family. The horses and pig were a great hit with our 3 and 6 year old grandchildren. Best place we have ever stayed in.
We’ve stayed at a number of vacation rentals in the area and Heather’s farm is hands down the best place I’ve been to. The setting is gorgeous, waking up to views for miles of the rolling hills, which you can enjoy from the massive deck. We loved meeting the horses, who were super friendly and loved saying hello to my kids. The apartment itself is massive, well appointed and comfortable. And our hosts were super friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back!

Thank you! It was great hosting you guys and we hope you can come back again soon!
This property is stunning. We needed a relaxing weekend away and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect spot. The view from the deck was amazing! The living space was extremely comfortable from the couches to the beds. We loved the big open space of the kitchen, living room, dining area. Upon our arrival there were treats for both us and our dogs left by the fabulous hosts. Highly Recommend!
Up there with the top places we have stayed, the barn and farm provided an incredible home base for our weekend in the mountains. Our kids loved the friendly horses and pig, as well as the cows in the distance and toys/games inside. A stroll through the working barn (to reach upstairs) is a treat in itself. Our mornings, views, and stargazing on the porch won’t soon be forgotten. Clean, warm, inviting, and comfortable, this is a gem in the Asheville area.
The sunset and mountain views from the deck are fantastic. In the evenings the fireflies make the forest glitter. Wonderful how the horses were so close to the barn when we arrived.
The apartment has no barn spell, if you are worried about that. It's even better than the pictures convey. It's very homey, has very comfortable beds, kitchen is very well equipped.
Heather and Justin not only offered an incredibly unique vacation experience, but also exceeded our expectations with thoughtful gifts, including fresh eggs from their hens.
Our boys and dogs loved visiting the farm animals, especially Sassy the horse and Hamlet the pot-belly pig.
The view from the barn deck was spectacular. We were almost reluctant to explore Asheville because this place is so lovely.
The hosts provided timely communication and fantastic hospitality. We definitely plan to come back!
We stayed 3 great nights at the Lucky 4 Farm. The space is above the horse barn, and the horses were sweet and super tolerant of our two dogs that had never seen horses before.
The was no odor in the space and we enjoyed a relaxing and comfortable time, and the dogs had a blast. My 2 favorite things were the high counter tops and walking the fields and on site wooded trail with the dogs off leash.
Heather was great and accessible, but we didn't need to bother them since we had everything we needed. Thanks for a terrific 20 year anniversary stay.
Oh, and my wife and I loved the large tub, so bring your favorite bubble bath.
Our 5 night stay at the Lucky 4 Farm was exactly what my family (2 kids, 10, 12, 2 dogs) needed! The property itself is absolutely gorgeous. We actually spent a lot of time just at the house. The listing is accurate and in a working horse barn and very spacious. The kids loved seeing the horses each morning either on the pasture or in the stables. There was never a farm “smell” at all nor did you hear any farm noises or commotion.
The barn house had everything you needed - kitchen necessities, bathroom, linens, washer/dryer, WiFi, and some games. Communication with the owners was excellent and they live on property if you need anything. The little extras made the stay even more special.
Location is about 20 minutes to downtown Asheville and local grocery stores or convieniences are within 10-15 minutes.
We would absolutely go back to visit and you won’t be disappointed in your stay here!
My family loved being able to explore Asheville, and then get back to a beautiful view. They also lived the unique experience of staying above the stables.
This was perfect! Secluded enough for privacy, yet close to everything you need and to Biltmore and the Blueridge Parkway just to name a few favorites.
Heather was a great host! Super responsive with helpful advice regarding our stay, activities and places to eat. Our kids loved spending time with the animals and didn’t want to leave. Look forward to coming back!
My husband and I stayed here with our dog in mid-October. The place is very clean, cozy and peaceful, and you feel very safe. It was, by far, one of the best trips we've taken, thanks to Heather and Justin's great hosting and this amazing place they so graciously share with others. The peace you will experience waking up to the beautiful views of the mountains, their horses and the rest of nature was one of our favorite parts. We chose this place because of their pet policy, and we highly recommend it to other pet owners because our dog was warmly welcomed by the owners. Heather was kind enough to recommend checking out a few favorite local spots such as the Blue Ridge Parkway and DuPont State Forest (which we both loved!). We were also well provided for with supplies, and the coffee maker and cookware is top-notch! Both Heather and Justin were easily accessible, but they will respect your privacy during your stay. We can't say enough great things about this cozy retreat! We highly recommend it for anyone else looking to enjoy the surrounding areas near Asheville, but also come back to a place that feels like home!!
This was one of our best VRBO experiences. The hosts took care of so many thoughtful details to make us feel welcome. Sitting on the deck, sipping coffee, and watching the horses during sunset was an experience we won't forget. It was also conveniently located near Biltmore and downtown Asheville.
The photos online are amazing but in person this place is absolutely stunning!!! I could live here for the rest of my life happy. What the Hodges family built on the second level of this working horse barn is something out of a magazine, Getting to see and walk by the horses in their stall on way to stairs to go upstairs is the bonus if you love horses, Once you walk into the door you immediatly feel like you are home in the country with all the amentinies you can think of from huge kitchen, huge bathroom and shower, huge laundry room, a beautiful back deck overlooking the 30 acre field with horses, deer and wild turkey (if you get up early lol) and the most comfortable beds ever! Thank you hodges family for creating this special place and sharing it with others, Your whole property is amazing!!! Will visit again 100% The Torres Family
I’m so glad we found this place. Not only was the place clean and nice, but there were a lot of details taken care of us that made us feel welcomed. And getting to meet all the animals was very fun, especially for the kids.
This place was amazing, the views incredible, second only to the kindness and warmth of the owners. We were looking for a dog friendly place near Asheville while in town that gave us room to relax and where we could experience western NC's natural beauty. This place exceeded every expectation possible. The location is great, the unit has everything that you could need and more ( talk about space), plenty of cute visitors ( daughter loved seeing the bunnies), incredible hosts who not only had personalized notes and treats for our dogs but also introduced my daughter to their horses and chickens. This place was truly amazing, couldnt be happier with our stay. Great family memories made and looking forwarx to our return to make more! Plus who can say they stayed at a barn? Couldnt recommend more, top notch at every level
We had a great stay at the horse ranch! Our kids were excited to be so close to the animals. The home was very spacious, clean, and comfortable. We will return and would definitely recommend the home to others.
The pictures didn’t do this place justice, as there was way more room to relax inside and let the kids play than we expected. Beautiful views of countryside and owners’ horses at all times of the day, and our kids loved seeing the horses and chickens every day. Short trips into Asheville and other nearby areas were very easy from this very quiet and peaceful home base during our trip. The owners were at their house but very accommodating while still giving us space to enjoy our vacation as a family. Absolutely would stay again.
If you like a country mountain feel but want to be close to everything, this is the place for you. Plenty of room on the property to get outside and enjoy nature. Great views of surrounding mountain ranges. The home itself is super comfortable and a great place for those looking to just relax. Take a short drive to explore nearby Asheville and surrounding areas. Our hosts were more than gracious and made our trip extra special by their availability. Our daughter loved your horses! The fresh eggs were great too.

About the host
Hosted by Heather Hodges
Hi! We are a family of 4 who love to travel! We built our barn in 2006 and raised our 2 boys there (yes, they were raised in a barn 😆). We lived there for 10 years and in 2016 we completed construction on our forever-home. With the exception of the occasional family who visited, our barn home sat empty for 5 years. We decided to open it up to travelers who want to visit the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina! We take pride in our property and try to make it feel like home to everyone. Our 2 teenage boys are the cleaning crew and they use this money to help pay for gas, insurance, etc while in high school.
We have 5 horses and enjoy camping and trail riding with them. The horses are all friendly and love attention! Apples and carrots are their most favorite things! Our oldest horse, Sassi, will be 34 in May, 2023. We have had her since she was born 💜
We enjoy hiking and mountain biking in the area and will happily recommend trails for you to explore. We have 11 laying hens and if they aren’t being freeloaders, we always try to make sure our guests have some fresh eggs to try. The barn cats are very elusive, but sometimes you can catch a peek! We also have a sweet Aussie shepherd, and a German Shepherd who competes with me in Schutzhund!
We hope to see you out living your best life!!
Why they chose this property
It’s just one-of-a-kind. You get to live above our horse stalls! The views are gorgeous, and the serene setting is so good for the soul!
