Lovely Canal Front Home in the 4X4! Reasonable Rates!

“Dune What We Do” is a newly updated home on the canal in the 4X4 AREA. A 4WD Vehicle is REQUIRED to get to this home. Ideal for a small family of 5-6 that loves relaxation and/or adventure! When not sitting (or surfing) on the pristine Carova Beach or admiring the horses (from at least 50’ away), we hope that you will fall in love with our home like we have! We purchased our home at the end of 2021 and have been busy giving it tons of TLC.

All living space is located on one main (upper) level with a canal view from the open living room, dining area, fully stocked kitchen, the large (covered) porch and the smaller screened in porch. There is also a primary king bedroom with a full bathroom, 2 other newly furnished bedrooms and a main bathroom. Located on the bottom level is a HUGE outdoor shower with hand spray for sandy feet and a utility room. We have outdoor games, 2 paddleboards, surfboards and other amenities for you to enjoy. There is even a chest freezer for you to store your own extra ice for coolers and cocktails. Feel free to launch the paddleboards right off the dock or bring your favorite fishing gear to fish off from the yard/dock. Of course, you can just relax in the Adirondack chairs by the fire pit or porch while your dinner is cooking on the gas grill. We even try to be flexible if you need a different check in/check out day or if you want to extend your stay for a few extra days (in advance). Please contact me to discuss and we can update the VRBO listing to accommodate your dates.

**ONE (1) PARKING PERMIT IS PROVIDED WITH EACH STAY** (There is a $150 fee if not left in the house at departure due to the inconvenience/time of obtaining a replacement)

**There is NO POOL or HOT TUB** (I mean we are on the canal and we are a few min drive to the beach though).

Best vacation trip ever.

The property was on a canal which was quite breathtaking it was a great trip. My grandkids really enjoyed talking to the Neighbors. The outside shower was totally awesome. It felt great not to bring sand into the house which is a plus. Overall I will be returning for another vacation in the future

Carova Adventure

What a great way to adventure at the beach, this 4X4 village was an exciting way to enjoy the ocean and relax. Drive up beach spots help prevent you from painfully dragging family gear across the soft sand, just pull gear out from the truck bed and, voila, it’s set up in no time! This bungalow is well worth a stay and hosted by great folks that will make sure you’ll enjoy your experience.

Just what you need..

From the moment we booked our vacation through our stay, Michelle was easy to reach and always accommodating. The home was neat, clean and perfectly appointed with any and everything you could need or want for a vacation in the 4X4 area. Kitchen was stocked with all the essentials, beds were super comfortable and the outdoor shower was perfect. All the amenities made a great, relaxing stay. Second trip here

This is our second time booking with Mike and Michelle. This property is amazing and so are the host! They have made great up grades to their house. The house is fully stocked with all the items you could need for a great vacation and if you have any questions they can give you all kinds of information if you have never driven in the 4x4 area. I suggest if you want an amazing vacation definitely book here!

Peaceful paradise

What a wonderful relaxing stay! Everything about it was easy and wonderful just like you want a vacation to be. The house was fully equipped with everything you need! The rooms were bright and cheery and the Michelle and Mile are perfect hosts, thoughtful and helpful . The check in / check out process was easy. The water, the horses, the peace and quiet were simply the best. Even got several good workouts in walking through the sand :) my husband loved driving on the island and the beach. Great vacation in Carova

Our stay at “Dune what we do” was fantastic. The house was beautifully decorated and clean. It had everything you need to cook meals. By far the best stocked kitchen we’ve had at a VRBO! Michelle was very attentive and a great host. We made a lot of good memories during our stay. We fished, went kayaking in the sound, crabbed off the dock, and were true beach bums during our stay. The house tons of additional outdoor amenities too. My kids loved the paddle boards and outdoor shower! Given the chance we would stay here again!

Wonderful rental in Corolla

We had a fantastic time at this house! Michelle is very thoughtful and the communication was amazing. She has thought of everything you might need for a vacation and the house was stocked for everything we needed! This was our first visit to NC, and also our first experience on the 4x4 beach. She settled all our worries and we had an awesome time! The house was very clean and organized, check-in and check-out was very smooth. Michelle was available to answer any of our questions and has great tips to get you through the 4x4 beach. We loved it and greatly recommend staying here!

Nicely decorated, super clean, fully stocked home, situated right on the canal. Layout was super functional. Beds were very comfortable. Outdoor shower was great after a day at the beach. Back porch overlooking the canal was great for morning coffee, an afternoon beverage or to escape a passing shower. Hosts were very friendly, super responsive and accommodating!! Visits from the horses right at the house were a highlight. Definitely need a 4x4 vehicle to navigate the beach and community back roads. Would highly recommend a stay at this home away from home!! Ultimate 4x4 beach trip

Michelle and Mike are great hosts. Their home is clean, orderly and fully equipped for cooking your meals and feeling at home. If your looking at the 4x4 beach then you are looking at a property that will give you the full experience… sand dunes, wild horses, waves, canal. This property gives access to all of the amenities drive your 4x4 to the beach and check out the wild horses on your 5 minute drive, then return to your home for food and paddle boarding on the canal. Great family home, priced right and great flexible hosts. A++

Best vacation ever

This was our first time to the 4x4 area and it absolutely didn’t disappoint. The house was beautiful inside and out. Very clean with all new appliances and flooring. The owners were so helpful answering questions about the area and thing that we may need to bring with us. My boys learned to paddle board for first time here. Owners made sure the boards were down and ready to go when I to her how excited my son was about learning. The major bonus of seeing wild horse everyday while we were on vacation just add to the amazing experience. We have rented a lot of vacation houses but this is definitely the best! We look forward to returning again next year.

Michelle and Mike were beyond awesome. They went above and beyond to accommodate us. The house was well put together and all the notes/instructions throughout the house were helpful and made our stay easy. Everything we could have needed for entertainment on a rainy day or for cooking a meal was provided. The house was comfortable and felt new. The outside areas were set up for maximum enjoyment and the dock was a treat. We fished everyday, horses passed through the property, and the kids had a blast. We will be coming back!

Hidden Gem

This was truly an AMAZING EXPERIENCE. From the initial booking process to the time we returned home Michael and Michelle made are stay a memory we won't soon forget. From the wild horses, to the beach drives, outdoor and indoor activities, just relaxing at "The Dune" plus a whole lot more stamped thefactvthat we chose to stay there. We highly recommend this rental and we would rent again. They fully stocked the house and were timely if you ever needed to reach them. Michelle even helped on a personal matter. Amazing Stay on the 4x4 Carova Beach Corolla

This property and its hosts, Michelle and Mike, were absolutely amazing! The hosts were extremely friendly, welcoming and informative with everything about the area and the 4x4 beach and sand driving experience. They were very patient with all our questions, especially as newbies to the area and sand driving- which went very smoothly without any issues. The house was spotless, very nicely decorated and had a new feel to it. The bedrooms were very comfortable and the kitchen amenities were top notch, literally everything you needed for a wonderful stay. The outside fire pit and dock were so great for relaxing and the outdoor shower was huge, clean with modern fixtures which was very refreshing after a hot Beach day. This property was everything and more for our family vacation and if you’re looking for a beautiful beach, nature and wildlife (the horses!!) experience then we highly recommend this property!

Very unique and one of the better places we stayed

Driving in on the beach, we knew this trip would be different. The beach is beautiful, and it's actually easy to drive on the sand. The house is beautiful and very comfortable and stocked with almost everything you need. The owner was very helpful and communicative about what bait to use for fishing and what beach ramp to use for access. Hint: it's near the fire station. Overall, we felt very welcome. We were there only an hour or two and the horses made their appearance. Nearly everyday we saw horses near the property. They come right up to the house as advertised. Our weather wasn't the greatest, but this trip was truly an adventure we will not soon forget. It's one of the better places we've stayed, and we've been doing VRBO for about 7 years now.

Carova Beach, Canals and Wildlife

The house was fantastic, clean, very well equipped, great beds, outdoor shower, paddleboards, and really comfortable all around; the owners thought of everything to make our visit memorable. View of canal and wildlife from deck, including horses, herons, ducks and toads. Carova Beach is huge, pristine and beautiful. Wildlife included dolphins, pelicans, horses, sandpipers and occasional sea nettles. Off-road beach trek to the house was a little stressful at first but with 4x4 there were no issues (we even helped a Toyota AWD station wagon get unstuck). Loved going into Corolla and Duck to get a break from the hot sun that was ever present for our visit. Fished at the beach and the dock. Great property owners! You can't go wrong with this one!

We are lucky to continue to get the greatest groups of guests! Carol and family left the house SPOTLESS and were so very respectful of our home. Everything was put away just as they found it and it was nice to not have to look for things! They asked great questions prior and were very flexible to accommodate the responses. Relaxing getaway!

Our first time in the 4x4 and we loved every minute! The house is exactly as pictured and it’s clear the owners put a ton of thought into how to make it feel like home even for renters who are borrowing the space, from the color and decor to the toys (cornhole, paddleboards, games!). We loved being far from anything commercial and taking morning drives to the beach. We saw many horses (at a distance of course) and only spent two half days out of eight in town. Lighthouse is a must, my first time back since being a little kid! There was truly no need to travel much and with our cooler in tow, it was easy to stock up on food before hitting the beach access road. My husband lovvvvvved getting to off-road in his truck. This was also an incredibly well stocked rental, from towels to kitchen items, grill with propane, water cooler, condiments etc. it really was like being at home, if only we were so lucky. :) I’d say this is not a fit for those looking to have a big party on the beach (goodness knows there’s plenty of properties like that) and a perfect fit for couples and families looking to enjoy peace, nature, quiet, and morning paddles / afternoon beach days. Plus that fire pit can’t be beat on calm evenings. As a bonus, host was a total delight to communicate with! I almost want to keep this place a secret, lol. Book and RELAX!

If I could rate higher I would- you’ll miss it when you leave

To say it was beyond perfect would probably be an understatement. First off Michelle’s communication skills are top tier, she was quick with responses and so kind! She even offered us another night stay due to the horrible weather, which was very much a sweet sentiment. We feel she went above and beyond. She also made sure before we booked we had 4 wheel drive which i appreciated, because you definitely will need it. When coming in, I did see other cars get stuck in the sand, so one has to wonder if they were extended the same courtesy from their hosts, that we were. The house has a nice layout, comfy beds, super clean and the shower outside (was probably one of my favorites). They offer beach chairs, toys, etc for you to use while there, fishing poles and paddle boards. They also have corn hole & so many boardgames. My favorite place in the house was probably the porch over looking the water where I could read and watch my little guy fish. And as the other reviews said, the horses come up to the property! We saw them every single day, the baby, Esther (Michelle knew all their names) was a firecracker and was so fun to watch doing zoomies around the house. What I didn’t see listed and was a beautiful surprise, was that on the beach we also saw dolphins daily, which made this experience that more magical. If you’re looking for a quiet, family friendly location that feels like a home away from home, I highly recommend booking with this wonderful couple.

Second times a charm

I can not say enough amazing things about this home and our trip! We went in June and had to go back again before summer ended. The location is so private even during a holiday weekend. We love being able to drive our truck right up to our beach spot and set the tent up for our day on the water! We swam with the dolphins 40 ft off the shore this time. How amazing!! The home was so beautiful as always! Michelle and Mike always make us feel like it's ours for the time we are there. They don't make us bring anything but food and excitement for our trip, unlike most rental properties. They provide all the luxuries of home. Thank you for the perfect beach vacation again! ❤

Mike and I (Michelle) purchased Dune What We Do as our 2nd home on 10/30/2021 and immediately went to work on renovating & improving. We did everything ourselves…from yard clearing & flooring to vinyl siding & fascia, plus a WHOLE LOT MORE! We are the 2nd owners & it has never been in a rental program, nor did we intend to rent it either. Then we decided we can’t be there every week… so why not share our home for others to enjoy? Although the calendar shows a lot of availability so we can be flexible for vacation dates, we only intend to rent the home a few weeks per year. With the exception of some more updates & additions planned for the end of 2022/early 2023, we plan to keep the house simple WITHOUT a pool or hot tub.

Our house is meant for a small family or a couple of friends to enjoy the natural vibe. We don’t have anybody managing it & want to keep it as our own which is why we chose to host it ourselves. When not making memories at Dune What We Do, Mike & I reside in Virginia Beach. Without traffic, it takes almost 3 hours by truck or 1 hour by boat (door to door) so we enjoy our home often. We hope you enjoy it as well.
