Very convenient location. Managed by Vacasa with extra steps required at check in and not as personalize at other VRBO experiences. It fit our needs and purposes otherwise

Cozy
I loved the quietness. It was a little staycation that we needed. The pull out couch was hard and could feel the metal through the mattress but that did not stop us from enjoying ourselves.

We regret that the bed was not suitable for your party and appreciate this feedback as an area to improve upon in the future. We hope to host you again soon!
I thought everything about this property was tremendous. You might consider putting a motion detector light by the front (side) door to assist keying in the code at night.

Great Location
We like being in the Volcano Golf Course Subdivision. Just wish there was a BBQ & some staples in the kitchen like salt, pepper, Ketchup, Olive oil, stuff like that. Also better T/P and Kleenex.
Great location near the golf course and Volcano National Park!
This place was a great location located just three minutes up the road from the golf course and winery in the Volcano area and five minutes from the national park entrance. Note to bring drinkable water with you or buy some in Volcano village (also close by). Great neighborhood.
This property was very clean, comfortable, and peaceful. My husband has severe asthma, but we noticed no hint of mold problems that a few other reviewers had mentioned. We plan to stay here again.

Hi Wason. Thank you for your review. We are glad that you enjoyed this great location. We apologize for any aspects of our home that you didn't find suitable. Please remember that our 24/7 guest hotline is always available should you have any concerns during your stay. We hope to have another chance to host you in the future.
Great location, easy to find, nice and comfortable home in a quiet neighborhood, minutes away from Volcanoes National park. Lots of warm blankets and heaters for the cold nights (mid 50s F). Kitchen is sufficiently stocked if you decide to cook while you are there. You will need to bring your basics (salt, pepper, oil, etc.). I'd recommend grocery shopping in Hilo before heading in. It took us about 50 minutes to/from Hilo. There are starter soaps and shampoo, but if you're staying longer than a weekend, you'll probably want to bring your own (I always do anyway). I'd recommend this home and would stay here again.
We really liked the cottage and it was very nicely decorated. It was a little cold in the winter mornings and a bit difficult to turn the gas fireplace on. There were space heaters.

PERFECT location for exploring the National Park
Check in process was flawless. The house was very clean and had everything we needed for our stay. Plenty of extra blankets are provided as it gets chilly at night. Very safe and quiet neighborhood- 2 miles from Hawaii Volcanoes NP!! Made for a perfect location for heading to the park at nighttime. Also close to Punalu'u Beach and beaches around Hilo (we loved Carlsmith Beach Park)!
Tip: Pick up groceries in Hilo, there aren't many stores/food options in Volcano.

We did notice a slight musty smell. Other than that it was a nice, spacious place. The kids had their own room and bathroom. There was a kitchen table and a table outside. There was a washer/dryer. We found it quiet and comfortable.
We have stayed at the location many times before. It has all of the basics and the nightly rate is affordable at about 100 per night. However be mindful that the fees do bring it to about 250/night. It has every thing you can need if you have a good basic mindset. Rooms are comfortable and clean, a bathroom for every room, a comfortable kitchen that provides all the needed things to cook at home and a living room with board games that we always use. It’s everything you would need. Be mindful that the patio has the type of paint that can get slippery when wet. My daughter has fallen many times because the patio gets wet and the paint is slippery. I fell and broke my ankle on the patio as well.

Great stay at Volcano Cottage
We had a wonderful time in Volcano and enjoyed our stay at this cottage very much !! After two weeks in a condo in Maui, this cottage in Volcano almost felt like being home. The house is in quiet and peaceful surroundings. The only thing you hear are the birds. Sometimes a cow or a dog. But all the neighbours are very respectful and everything is so quiet at night. We enjoyed having two rooms. I took the room with the private bathroom and my friend had the room with the outside bathroom to herself. The house offers everything you need in the bedrooms, the bathrooms, the kitchen. My only suggestion to Vacasa team would be to offer two beach chairs. They would have come handy to go watch the eruptions at night. Also at the beach to check out the turtles in the black sand. We loved having our morning coffee on the wide veranda around the house.
Communication with Vacasa was more than perfect. They wrote before, during et after the trip to make sure everything was fine and to ask if we needed anything. There is no doubt that I will rent from them again. To other guests : make sure to have warm clothes. It’s very cold outside in the morning and also at night on the volcano.

This property was perfect for our family of four. It is 5 minutes to the Volcano's National Park entrance and close to several restaurants in Volcano Village. The house was a bit musty but that isn't uncommon with rentals I've used on the islands before. The air is so fresh that after the windows are opened, it clears it right up. You do have to take your trash to the transfer station, the closest one was not going to be open on the day we needed to take it so we found one about 7 miles away in Glenwood/Mt View that was open Tu/Fri/Sat right off Old Volcano Rd. We used the Foodland in Keaau for our groceries and that worked out well, it is almost halfway between Hilo and Volcano and easy to get to. Overall I would recommend this vacation property.

"Please remove your shoes"
From the moment you enter the cul-de-sac and the approach to the cottage you get the feeling that this is your home sweet home a slice of island life.
Then as you enter the home, you can see the floors are as clean as your own home so you walk around bare feet. The TLC and layout of the home gets my high five. It gets cold, 45-50 degrees F and the space heaters are nice and comfortable bring the interior to a comfy 68 degrees in a matter of a half hour. No fuss stove adds to the warmth and ambiance.
The drive to Kailua-Kona takes you along rural seascapes dotted with smaller communities reflecting the Hawaii of old, not to mention the short jaunt into Hilo and the Hamakua Coast.
If you are seeking value within your budget, Volcano Cottage gets my vote! Keep up the good work.

Great for cyclists heading to HVNP
The location, just across Hwy 11 from the Military Camp in HVNP (with gated road that bicyclists can navigate) means we could bicycle into HVNP without having to ride on Hwy 11. The wrap around deck on the house was good weather protection for our cycles overnight. The neighborhood is safe and well maintained. There are dogs and various fowl in the area - don't expect to sleep late. Otherwise, its a quiet neighborhood.
The beds are comfortable. Nice bedding and linens were provided. There is dish soap, sponge, paper towels, salt and pepper in kitchen. The bathrooms have little bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion. Pump bottles of hand soap at each sink.
I have three issues with the house that lowered my rating.
1) The VRBO listing says the house has "water catchment", but after booking, Vacasa sends information that in the fine print says "guests should bring their own drinking water". The brochure in the house says "the water is filtered for consumption." This ambiguity was annoying. Did the property manager KNOW the water was not potable, or was this CYA because some guests freak out about drinking rainwater? We couldn't get a straight answer from either the Vacasa help line nor the local property manager. Who knows, but we got all out drinking water from the HVNP Visitor Center just in case (which is also rainwater catchment, but from the taste, obviously heavily chlorinated.) The listing, the in-house information, and the Vacasa property management fine print should be consistent!
2. The lower kitchen cabinets apparently were water damaged at some time, making them extremely moldy. All pots, pans, utensils, etc. stored in them had that stench - just as the entire house did before we aired it out. I recommend that before booking, ask if the lower kitchen cabinets have been replaced since Feb 2023 - apparently that is the plan, but in the meantime - the visible mildew & stench after opening a cabinet made the entire kitchen not very appealing for eating or cooking.
3) Several lamps in the house not plugged in because broken. The lounge furniture is old, the bedroom wicker dresser is mildewy. Some pots/pans are not in good condition. It's as if the house owner does not want to invest in maintaining the property. Note that the house interior was very clean, the problems are with the house fixtures and cabinets. Thankfully the fireplace plus lounge fan worked well - it was cold the week we were there.

Response from VrboOwner on 20 Sept, 2023
Thank you for staying with us, Marilyn. We are glad the location was ideal. We apologize for any confusion regarding the water in this home. Per the listing, the home utilizes rainwater catchment and is UV filtered but not recommended for consumption. Guests are advised to bring their own drinking water. We will be sure to update the binder to reflect this to avoid any further confusion. We will also be sure to pass your maintenance concerns to the appropriate parties for consideration. We hope to host you again soon.
Very nice rental close to the park. Clean and quiet. One small detail to be aware of, the "know before you go" information requests that visitors take garbage to a nearby transfer station as they leave. Not a problem. But the station will be closed if visitors leave on a Sunday.

Ambience bust!
The location was perfect, the house was super clean. Doesn’t make sense for guests to have to deal with disposal of their garbage when the transfer station is only open 3 days a week 🤷🏽♂️😡
