Hilltop Hideaway: Lakefront Cottage in the Smoky Mountains
You're about to enjoy one of the best kept secrets of the South - the Lake in the Sky. A beautiful lake is hidden away on the border of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park right off the Foothills Parkway, on top of a Tennessee Mountain. This private cottage gets you on the water and offers your own private dock on a quiet lake (free of noisy motorized watercraft), tucked into a cozy cove. For the adventurer, you are walking distance to a trailhead to backcountry hiking on world class hiking trails of the GSMNP. After kayaking and fishing in the water or exploring the wilderness, you can grill out in your private backyard, reflect with wine on the dock, or tell stories by the fire pit.
The house can only accommodate up to two adults and two kids, with a queen bed, and two stackable twin beds, and a queen-size sleeper sofa. Full kitchen, 1.5 bathrooms, heat/AC, elevated screened porch for fantastic lake views over breakfast, and a beautiful bifold glass door downstairs that opens directly to the private lake. To help you enjoy the gas-motor free lake, there is a Jon boat with electric trolling motor, kayaks (one two seater with one additional kid seat that can be added, and two kid kayaks for a total of 3 kayaks). There are games, books, and 3 Smart TVs for those times you choose to stay inside in front of the fire.
The cottage sits on the Lake in the Sky and offers all of the modern conveniences needed to get away but stay connected.
We ask that guests respect the community-mandated quiet time after 10 PM to ensure that all can enjoy the peaceful setting.

My wife and I stayed here for a week and enjoyed our time. It was very clean and had all the amenities we needed. Owners is very responsive and friendly. Highly recommended If you are looking for a quiet getaway!
We found this little gem to be a good place for just some quiet time away. Sitting on the dock and watching the lake provided some much needed time of relaxation. We felt the decor inside had been lovingly attended to and did not need anything else other than what was provided.

Happy anniversary to you two! We’re happy we could help you celebrate.
We had such a relaxing time at this little cabin at the top of a mountain. Beautiful views, outdoor space on the water, and extremely well stocked kitchen made our stay care free. The owner was extremely helpful and responsive. We will definitely be back!
We loved our stay at your cabin. Went fishing almost every day and caught many different types of fish!! The geese on the lake are wonderful and very funny. The cabin is well equipped and the fireplaces on both levels made our evenings quite cozy :) Thanks for sharing your home.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this simple but very nicely decorated cabin. A beautiful screen porch to sit on and enjoy the view of the lake. Started each day fishing and just enjoying the lake. Plenty of sightseeing in the area. We trailered our motorcycle and would go out each day on the Foothills Parkway in to Townsend. Overall, we had a great vacation!
Absolutely the most relaxing vacation ever. The lake was beautiful, the house was clean and exactly as described. The tail of the dragon trip is right down the road. We did hiking trails in the seven island state park which were a must see. We saw a black bear in the GSMNP. The frogs singing every night at the lake house and the birds singing every morning….. just perfect relaxation. I caught large mouth bass from the dock, caught the same in the John boat… absolutely perfect. Campfires every night and the stars in the sky… just wow!!!!
My husband and I wanted a relaxing lake view property to stay for a honeymoon. This was just that. We were able to take mini trips to Nashville and Gatlinburg within a reasonable drive. We spent time on the dock catching bass and catfish. We will definitely be back to enjoy another vacation.

Samantha, we are delighted that our little cottage was the setting for such a special occasion. Please do come back for many more!
This cottage was so wonderful to celebrate mine and my husbands 7th wedding anniversary. Trieu was incredibly responsive and helpful. We spent all our time on the dock fishing and even got the John boat out one morning. The shower is tricky but manageable. Thank you for sharing this little bit of paradise!
We came to East Tennessee for my husband's 60th birthday because he wanted to rent a motorcycle and drive the Tail of the Dragon. We had a great stay, peaceful and cooler weather than we were having in Texas. He had a blast spending two days driving the foothills of the Smokey Mountains and I had fun driving in a car in the foothills of the mountains. The only thing to note is that there is not a washer/dryer in the house but we only were there 4 nights so had plenty.
Beautiful sunrises from the screened porch and the Adirondack chairs on the dock. Peaceful neighborhood... you can see them, but everyone is respectful of the quiet. We loved the kayak and john boat; appreciated the lifejackets and fishing equipment provided. Indoors, you have a well stocked kitchen, comfortable furnishings and plenty of linens. The shower is tricky, but I would stay again. Thanks for sharing you little cabin at the Top of the World.
This cute little cabin on a pristine lake was the perfect jumping off spot for a week of hiking the trails in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The shower is a challenge, especially for taller people (I'm 6'2"). There was an issue that came up with the house, but the owner's were easy to reach and communicate with to resolve the problem within a day.
My husband is from the area and this was perfect for a mini family reunion. Ages 95 to 4 years enjoyed a lovely picnic lunch and hubby caught a fish! The remaining time was spent on the lake or walking in the area. The neighbors were very friendly, we arrived after dark, the house wasn’t well lit but they helped us. We loved the quirky house, my 5’11 man was able to shower without incident, although hit his head going down the stairs. I was disappointed there was not a laundry available, although I might have misunderstood.
The location was lovely. The cabin was small but adequate although the shower under the stairs was way too low. Not recommended if you’re over 5’3”! Got invaded by ants and was promised pest control visit which didn’t seem to happen. We did get a next day delivery of some essentials that were insufficient for a week long stay including ant traps which helped. Had issues with the keypad lock but the property manager helped us with a work around after several phone calls to the “emergency number”. Kayak was great but there were no seats contrary to the ad. There's a John boat and trawling motor but only an emergency battery jumper to charge the battery which didn’t allow us to gauge how much charge we had. House can sleep 6 but as says limit of 4 people. Could use more adult games but lots of toys and books for very young kids.
What a great place to escape for a few days or weeks. The house was exactly as described and pictured. Very clean and well appointed. Lots of nice little touches. The lake is only steps away. If you don't want to go outside, the screened in porch is great as well. Perfect for two or three people. The only problem I had was not having my check in code written down or screenshot of it as I had not service when arriving. It is noted about wi-fi calling, so that was our fault. No problems with communication from host. Thanks for this nice place to escape.
I was looking for a mountain retreat/getaway for my husband and I while I had work in the area and found this hideaway. It is very remote from town, fishing was great, and the cabin was spacious enough for us. We even had "Harry" the duck greet us. She was so entertaining. The dock straight out the back door and the upper screened porch was the highlight. Take the boat out too! Like others, the shower is workable. The only con for me was the Wifi. I knew signal may present a challenge in the mountains but was hoping with Wifi available I could still work. Sadly that was not the case. Even the TV wouldn't stay connected longer than 5 minutes. But most are looking to disconnect and this is the place. I also recommend to screenshot any directions before hand since GPS is spotty and the roads are tight if you miss a turn from the Parkway. Views are beautiful and neighbors respected your space. Will be back when I dont have to work!
The property is as beautiful as the pictures. The lake is amazing. We spent most of our time out on the lake in the provided john boat or fishing from the dock. Nearly everytime we threw a hook in the water, we were catching something! The lake is full of redear sunfish, blue gill and largemouth bass. The owners have gone to great lengths to make sure the property is well stocked with anything you might forget or need including charcoal and bug spray. Thank you! We had a great time. Once we parked our truck, we never left until time to go home. For future renters, download the map before you head up the mountain because you will lose cell service quick! And if you love to fish, bring a filet knife!! This rental is perfect for those wanting to unplug and relax.

Thank you for the wonderful review, Sara! We're glad you had all you needed for your stay, and it sounds like you had a bountiful fishing trip. We hope you will plan a return visit soon. We'll be sure to have a filet knife available for your next stay!
Triue was great and very responsive from the beginning. The house is small and more than 3 or 4 people may feel cramped, but it's been so well done, you may not notice. Every use of space was brilliant! The screened in porch was wonderful and we loved that there was a table there for meals. Everything we needed to make meals was available, even coffee, spices, and a water filtered pitcher. We brought a cooler of food and there was room for all of it. The ziplock bags and foil were very much appreciated as well. The shed had all the water sport equipment we needed including a tackle box (fishing rods are downstairs), and motor for the John boat. We are small people, 5'2" and 5'9", so we were ok with the slanted shower ceiling. If you're taller than that, you won't be able to stand up all the way in it. Both bathrooms were recently renovated and very clean. The location was perfect for us, quiet, beautiful and pretty remote. FYI, It's 30 minutes to Maryville for restaurants and other amenities, but we didn't mind. Check out Walnut Kitchen and get a massage at PURE!

About the host
Hosted by Trieu S.
We're a pair of sisters/husbands raising our families in Knoxville. We all instantly fell in love with this cozy little cottage and thought it'd be a wonderful place to adventure and relax with our kids. Once we got in there, we thought it's only fair to share such a uniquely magical hideaway with you. And here you are! We're so excited for you to see what all it has to offer, inside and out.
Why they chose this property
This place checks every box. From the tiny community, the private water access, 25 minutes to restaurants and shopping in Maryville, and the fact that this is one of the few places on Earth where you can simultaneously enjoy scenic altitudes and relaxing lake life, how could we say no? We're a diverse group with interests in everything from art to outdoor adventures, and this place delivers endless inspiration and access to nature. Perfect.
What makes this property unique
While a lot of places like ours can offer proximity to the water, our place gives you actual private access and your own dock, as well as a fishing boat (with trolling motor), a pair of solo kayaks for kids and a bigger kayak that seats two adults and a child. The house has 3 large flatscreen tv's for all your streaming, an elevated screen porch (perfect for breakfast, sunset and everything in-between), a fire pit and outside seating, a full kitchen with dishwasher, brand new AC/Heat, and an array of games for the young (or young at heart).
The most unique benefit of this cabin, simply put, is its dynamic scope of possibilities. Whether you're trying to leave the world behind or grab for more of it, you will find it here in this truly unique escape.
