We we're only there overnight, but the location tucked away at the end of the road was amazing and waking up to views of the telescopes on the mountain were unforgettable.
Excellent place to stay, clear and detailed instructions and welcoming warm place after long trip.

The house has a wonderful view, very comfortable and everything you need for your stay. There are no king size beds if anyone is very big. It was super clean and the sky view is out of this world.
Our family of 4 had an incredibly comfortable 3-night stay at this beautiful hillside home. The location is unbeatable—stunning Davis Mountain views, yet just minutes from the State Park, McDonald Observatory, and Main Street Ft. Davis. The house is spacious with authentic Texas charm, great bedrooms, a fully stocked kitchen, and plenty of room to relax.Best of all, the incredibly dark skies made this home the perfect base for astrophotography. We easily set up our gear right on the property to capture deep sky objects. Highly recommend!
Definitely as cozy as described. The view was beautiful and the stars were the best I’ve seen. Property information was thorough and easy to access.

The location was perfect for star gazing which is why we were in Ft Davis. The house was comfortable, clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The gravel road could be a bit of a challenge for a low to the ground car. Communications with the home owner was very good and we hope to return next year.

About the host
Hosted by Laura Cox
I am a 7th generation Texan, and I am very proud of my state and its heritage. My 4th great grandmother came to Texas in 1825, pledging allegiance to Mexico for a land grant in Arthur G. Wavell's Red River Colony. She was a sister to Collin McKinney, a delegate to Washington on the Brazos, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence and the Texas Constitution. I am a Registered Nurse that is married to a U.S. Marine and current Navy Officer. I have 3 lovely children; 2 are adults and 1 is a teen. My whole family loves the outdoors, all flora and fauna of Texas. We also love the rich history of our state! We love to hike, birdwatch, hunt, go camping, eat good food and drink good drinks! We love the Big Bend area, where the wild spirit of Texas is still alive! (My profile pic is from a hike in Alpine called "The Desk." This hike is approximately 25-30 minutes from the Fort Davis house.)
Why they chose this property
When at this Fort Davis house, you KNOW you are in Texas! It is decorated with Texas artwork and more. I hand picked everything in this home, and made sure it would reflect Texas honor and heritage. Additionally, everything that you need for a comfortable short or extended stay is here. I sincerely want every guest to have a wonderful time and to return again, and again.
What makes this property unique
The mountain views from this home are fantastic! The sun rises and sun sets are wonderful, and star gazing from the back porch of this home is truly amazing! Humming birds and other birds migrate through this area, so it is an outstanding area to birdwatch. Fort Davis has a Humming Bird festival every year! The grounds around the home are nice and contain trees, agave, shrubs, cacti and other plants. There are books for your enjoyment in the bedrooms; most of the books focus on the West. The home also contains some toys in a footlocker in the office that children are welcome to play with. (Lincoln logs, Jenga Blocks and a few games.) The location of this home cannot be beat! It's near everything of interest in Fort Davis: Prude Ranch, Sproul Ranch, McDonald Observatory, Fort Davis National Historic Site, the scenic loop drive on 118, Chihuahuan Nature Center and more! This property makes a wonderful home base to discover the Fort Davis area and is also great as a stepping stone to/from Big Bend National Park or Big Bend State Park.
