Aloha and Welcome to the Dancing Bamboo Cottage!

Dancing Bamboo Cottage is located on 3 acres surrounded by the Big Islands upcountry rain forest. Lush guava and bamboo jungle, beautiful anthuriums, large Ohi'a trees and Hapu'u ferns surround the property. And you're minutes from the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, which has a whole new look after the great eruption of 2018 that closed the Park for several months!

Please note that there is another rental on this large property - Dancing Ferns. The units are fairly close in proximity but have no shared space other than the parking area, so don't be alarmed if you see a vehicle when you arrive. The outdoor areas are on opposite sides from each other and there is space between the units so your privacy is assured. If you need more room there is a discount for renting both units together by booking Dancing Volcano Estate.

Dancing Bamboo Cottage is a detached studio located just outside a beautiful country home, Dancing Ferns which is also available for vacation renting. The décor is Hawaiian plantation, with a kitchenette, cozy sitting area, large king bed and a luxurious walk in marble shower, WiFi, DVD player with a selection of movies, coffee pot, microwave and mini-fridge.
Please NOTE: there is NO washer/dryer, no phone (cell service is good) and no air conditioning (at 3,500 ft elevation the air is naturally cool).

What to Pack:
The Island of Hawaii, aka the Big Island, boasts over 4,000 square miles and 10 different climate zones, within which are many micro climate zones! You may think that packing your favorite swimsuit and slippers (flip flops) is enough, but not true if you plan on doing any hiking or sightseeing around the island. The Volcano area can get quite chilly with temperatures dropping down to the low 40s at night, sometimes lower, so do bring your favorite warm pajamas and at least a light jacket. It actually snows often on Mauna Kea, but they close those roads whenever there are blizzard conditions present.

Rates are for single or double occupancy. Cleaning and other fees will also apply.

Cute cottage! Nice, private, happy to have a heater there. Toilet handle wasn’t working properly, could use more utensils and spices for cooking and clean sponges for doing dishes. Loved taking a hot shower there. Overall, cozy stay.

Dancing Bamboo

Lovely setting, very remote. Clean, comfortable accommodations for the three nights we stayed. Ten minute drive to the Hawaii Volcano National Park and Volcano village which was convenient. We met local family at the park each day to explore and hike in the National park. The internet worked very well. The shower was lovely, nice hard shower and plenty of room. We would recommend this property!

The Bamboo cottage is just as described. It's super close to the national park and was a nice place to come back to after we were done exploring. So quiet and peaceful and the STARS were amazing. Coffee on the lanai before we headed out, just taking in the landscape... I would definitely stay again.

Reviewer Comments: Overall we had a great experience staying in the cottage. It was near the national park but not too close to town which was nice. It gets a bit muddy when wet and is fairly dimly lit at night near the gate which makes it a little bit of a challenge to open the gate. The cottage was just as pictured, very clean and well kept. This is a great place to stay if you don’t plan to cook but they do have a toaster oven, microwave and a regular drip coffee maker which was nice.

Nice cottage off the main house. Very clean. Everything just as listed. Only issue was NO HEAT, and we stayed during one of those rare times it does get cool in the winter, 50's outside at night, makes it low 60's in the room. Maybe we should have known better, but now you do too.

As well, there was no hot plate supplied as advertised which required some original thinking to get dinner cooked. Overall, a pleasant stay but could use a few little improvements.

Reviewer Comments: The location was good for my purposes of strictly visiting the volcano. I didn’t feel like the rental was clean however. It had the feeling of appearing clean but I didn’t trust that it actually was. The fridge didn’t work and smelled awful, pretty upset since they recommend you buy groceries in town and everything spoiled and took on the disgusting smell of the fridge. Wasted my money and then had to dine out anyway.The support mattress sheet had a bunch of stains on it. The gate lock was really old and rusted, pretty painful on the fingers to unlock each time. The shower drained pretty slowly. It felt like an air bnb but not really great quality. The towels were thin and the bathroom mirrors were placed too high. Overall I felt it was ok for the price. I will probably try to book further in advance and stay at a hotel next time.

Reviewer Comments: this has been a great place to stay. very nice quality house and clean. in short this place is the reason why the local resorts and hotels bribed the mayor, and others, to pass restrictive laws against short term vacation rentals because people were no longer staying at hotels and resorts. yes there are somethings to consider. there is a unpaved road for the last block of road. not all the lots/homes in the estate are perfect and clean but they are never bothersome or a problem, minor and hardly worth mentioning. a washer/dryer would be nice but for that you would have to pay more due to the price of electricity on island and depending on your length of stay not an issue if you pack right. i would stay here again (and probably will) and recommend it to anyone.

Has what you need for a comfortable stay, fridge, toaster and microwave ovens, small heater if it get too cool, dehumidifier and air purifier if needed. The room and bath are perfect for a couple. The gates entrance can be "fun" in the rain. The road is a bit primitive but easy to drive in any was 10 min from the Hawaii Volcano Natiinal Park entrance.

MISSING INSTRUCTION TO GAIN ENTRY - DOOR FAILED TO OPEN ... the "back-key" must be used in combination with electronic lock to gain entry entry instructions need to be made much clearer regarding what is the purpose of the mechanical lock code .. upon entry a strong cigarette smell throughout, had to open all windows to air out the unit .. a white air filter machine with MULTIPLE COFFEE STAINS on the top - device needs removing from property .. mattress uneven concave surface .. one unclean inner pillow case cover, the other is missing the inner pillow case cover, pillow smells .. the Honeywell filter showed a red checklight - may have accidentally reset this - filter may need changing .. HT-AD10 WiFi network in booklet does not connect to internet, the property information booklet needs correcting .. TV and DVD controllers missing 1 of four batteries .. only clock either broken or dead battery .. missing towel bar on bathroom door, there are still six screw holes remaining. .. one window screen next to bed has a bent frame in need of corrective action .. both green bath towels frayed at edges

The cottage itself was very cozy and clean. Due to the weather we had to use the de-humidifier and space heater which were so helpful to have and both worked quickly when we needed them!The welcome packet had lots of helpful recommendations for things to do and places to eat. We were able to go to some of the recommended restaurants and they were wonderful.We would absolutely recommend this place to others and would happily go back!

The Dancing Bamboo Cottage is a perfect romantic get away for a couple, our stay was peaceful and the experience was bliss. Very clean and though it was cold, there was a provided heater that kept us comfortable. We left satisfied and well rested as every vacation should be!
