Kick back and relax in a waterfront chalet that combines cottage charm and modern amenities. House is on the sunny northern side of Chalk Pond, a pristine, 21-acre lake in Newbury, NH. Enjoy the waterside from your private floating dock with fishing (NH license required age 16+) and swimming, or boat over to the tiny island in the middle of the Pond. No powered craft are allowed on Chalk Pond; one full-size canoe, two single kayaks, two SU paddleboards and life jackets are provided with the house. You also have access to the homeowner's association private sandy beach, basketball court, tennis courts and newly updated playground.
Would you like a WALK-THROUGH, VIDEO TOUR of the entire house, yard and waterfront? Use this link www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNd2lXzhNq0 It's a close-up look at the house that's just like being there. I apologize in advance for my amateur camera work.
Enjoy the beauty of nature without leaving the yard: listing photos show the turtles, chipmunks and duck families that visit daily. From the dock, watching the movement of the ever-changing water and its light reflected in a canopy of trees is mesmerizing and restful. From our front door, it's a five minute walk to the Stoney Brook Wildlife Sanctuary, where you can hike two different trails through a beautiful 362-acre preserve. Watch for moose, deer, flying squirrels, even porcupines! Walk to Kidder Tract and enjoy the state-maintained hiking trails. Take a 15-minute drive to Mt. Sunapee Harbor, Mt. Sunapee Ski Resort (offers a summer adventure park), or the quaint town of New London which has great shopping, restaurants and a summer stock theater.
Central air conditioning keeps everyone comfy all summer long. The master bedroom has a queen bed and private deck, the second bedroom has one twin and one full bed. The downstairs den has a TV and queen futon. The full deck off the living room offers a tranquil view of the water and features deck furniture and a gas grill. Finished walk-out basement has two futon chairs and TV; great place for kids and teens to hang out.
Wood paneling, hand-painted stencils, wall quilts and country decor give the house a comfortable, rustic feel. It's scrupulously clean and complimented by modern conveniences not all cottages have: completely equipped kitchen with brand-new appliances, dishwasher, two full baths, full-sized new washer and dryer and Wi-Fi access, internet speed has been upgraded to be the fastest available in the area.
We provide off-street parking for up to 3 cars: Town of Newbury law strictly prohibits on-street parking in front of the house at any time. From warm summer days and cool summer nights to spectacular fall foliage and crystal clear water, let our home at Chalk Pond be your choice for a restful getaway.
Please note that for Fall 2026, the seasonal floating dock will be removed Columbus Day weekend and will not be put back in the Pond until the following spring. (Waited too long one year and an early cold snap found us chopping the dock out of the iced-over Pond, yikes!) Guests staying after Columbus Day can still launch kayaks and canoe from our waterfront.

We were exhibiting at the League of NH Craftsmen's Fair and loved coming back to the house. It was comfortable and spacious and the community beach was really great. Marybeth was great to work with!
We, six of us, enjoyed the stay very much. Direct access to the Chalk pond and quiet environment brought us refreshing pleasure away from our busy urban lives. House was clean and comfortable, and Marybeth, the owner of the house, provided us with thoughtful guidance and clear instructions.
Quiet, well maintained and equipped cottage, with all the comforts of home. Covered decks to sit on as well as one on waters edge. It was a mother, daughter vacation and we looked for a place to relax and reboot. We found it !!! And Marybeth was a great host !
What a great place! The house is spotlessly tidy and the location is amazing! The hosts are details and kind, and the communication was flawless! Looking forward to returning again the future!
We had a very nice stay on Chalk Pond. The house was actually larger and nicer than I had expected based on photos. We had 4 adults and 2 children stay and were very comfortable. The house and kitchen had everything we needed, really can't think of anything that we could have used. The lake was nice, we used the kayaks a few times and spent a fair amount of time on the dock. Very peaceful setting. I will certainly consider staying here again in the future.
If you’re looking for quiet, this is your place. Secluded in the woods and on a beautiful pond, we enjoyed our stay. If you’re looking for other things to do on a vacation, you’ll need to do at least a 40 minute drive but otherwise, it was great.

City/suburb-type activities (movie theater, sports arena) are not nearby. Chalk Pond is a green, waterfront oasis ideally situated between New London, a bustling college town, 15 minutes in one direction and popular tourist destinations Newbury Harbor and Mt. Sunapee, 10 minutes in the other direction. We also provide guests with info on fun things to do in the Newbury area to help everyone get the most from their stay.
The waterfront cottage is appealing, comfortable, and well-equipped, and well managed. I particularly enjoyed my daily swims from the dock and found the cottage cozy on rainy mornings, making my week in New Hampshire very pleasant.
I stayed at this lovely cottage for the week. My family came up to enjoy a couple of the nice weather days and we all had a wonderful time. Cottage was clean and full of amenities. The host was excellent and was easy to communicate with. Highly recommend!
Great location if you like outdoor activities including hiking, biking, swimming, kayaking, and tennis. We were fortunate to have great weather with one rainy day that was filled with reading and games. Marybeth (the host) was amazing providing all the details and bring available for any questions.
Location was spectacular, couldn't have asked for a better place. House was as listed with awesome amenities, such as canoe, kayak and more. My family and i had a great get together, especially coming from a long distance to meet up (Colorado). Homeowner was exceptional, and answered all questions as they arose quickly.
Chalk Pond is perfect for a family vacation, it is quiet and relaxing.
We loved our stay on Chalk Pond. It’s a beautiful setting with a lovely view. We spent much time sitting near the water and using the canoe, kayaks, and tubes on the water. The house is great. It suited our family group of 7 well. Plenty of space for everyone. The kitchen is well stocked. We prepared many meals in it. The beds were comfortable. It is a relaxing and peaceful home and setting. We loved the location, close to hikes, and other attractions. We would love to stay here again.
We had a great stay here. The house was very clean and everything was exactly as pictured. The kitchen was very well equipped including things one typically doesn't find in a rental such as cooking oii which was a nice surprise. All kinds of aquatic stuff to do in the pond with kayaks, paddleboards and a canoe. There was plenty of room for six adults. Marybeth is a great hostess and communicates effectively throughout. Very quiet, yet only 30 minutes from restaurants, markets etc. We would definitely return.

The cottage at Chalk Pond...
The cottage at Chalk Pond was the perfect place for
our New England expedition. The cottage served as
our home base from which to visit several colleges
for our two daughters. After full days of exploring
it was a wonderful home away from home. We
gathered around the table for long dinners to share
our day. In the morning we awoke to the sounds of
the pond beckoning us to take a canoe ride from
our private dock. A perfect escape-- Andrea,

Beautiful home in a beautiful location
We recently spent a week at the cottage and found it absolutely perfect in every regard. This home is beautifully appointed, perfectly maintained and extremely comfortable. Chalk Pond is a jewel and this home takes full advantage of the view from the windows, decks and dock. We found it to be the ideal location for making day trips to the White Mountains, Lake Sunapee, Lake Winnipeasukee and all the surrounding areas. At the end of each day, it was a joy to come back to the house to relax from the daily adventures. We highly recommend this property to anyone seeking a relaxing vacation in a beautiful location. The owner was extremely helpful and a delight to deal with.
