Boutique Cabin w/ Lake Access, Canoe, SUPs, Inner Tubes, BBQ, Fire Pit, Fireplace—Renovated & Chic
Only 2 hours from NYC, stay at @boutiquerentals_' Scandi-inspired 'The Original Bungalow' in the Catskills featuring lake access, canoe, paddle boards+ inner tubes. Come for the ample swimming opportunities, pretty strolls along the lake, forest hikes, Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, original Woodstock site, proximity to the Delaware River, craft beverage trail & charming river towns with great dining+shopping. At night, grill up some delights on the BBQ & relax on the deck or by the fire pit.
I live in Brooklyn, New York, but I am available via messaging or by phone. I also have a local property manager who can help if needed.
We love Smallwood — a friendly and quiet lake community with many cute little log cabins from the 1930s and 40s. We have a lake, waterfall, forest reserve with hiking trails, outdoor gym, post office, and restaurants (one is only open seasonally) within walking distance from the bungalow.
This area of the Catskills offers every outdoor activity imaginable including swimming, hiking, canoeing, boating, tubing, rafting, fishing, cycling, ziplining, horseback riding, bird watching, apple picking, snowtubing, skiing, and snowboarding.
The cabin is only a short drive from Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, the Museum at Bethel Woods, the original Woodstock site, buzzy design haven Livingston Manor, Resorts World Catskills, Holiday Mountain (skiing/tubing and 'fun park' with rock climbing, go carts, etc.), Lake Superior State Park, the Catskills Craft Beverage Trail, Legoland, great restaurants, cute shops and antique stores, harvest festivals, holiday markets, farms (kids usually love the alpacas!), farmers markets, New York State's largest indoor waterpark Kartrite, Forestburgh Playhouse, Kadampa Meditation Center New York, Monticello Raceway, Monticello Motor Club Off-Road Adventure, as well as picturesque river towns Callicoon and Narrowsburg.
You can check in and out by yourself with our keyless entry. You will be issued an access code for the duration of your stay - no keys to lose or return.
The easiest way to reach The Original Bungalow is by car, but it is possible to go via public transit from the NYC area as well. Take the Short Line Bus from Port Authority in Manhattan to Monticello's Short Line Terminal or Resorts World Catskills. From there, you'd have to take a taxi to the bungalow (under 15 minutes).

We had a peaceful and relaxing get away at this sweet cabin hideaway. Our host was so helpful and responsive and the attention to detail in the cabin was so appreciated. Very much looking forward to the next time!
This place is cozy and cute. The location is excellent, with the lake close by. The proximity to Bethel Woods is good too. The robes and slippers are a nice added touch. The hosts have thought of everything, including a French Press coffee maker!
Cute, well maintained place with a very communicative host! Shower is a bit tight if you’re over six feet tall :)

Thank you so much for your kind review! We’re happy you enjoyed your stay and appreciated the communication 😊 The shower is indeed a bit compact - something we mention in the listing - but we’re glad the rest of your experience was comfortable and enjoyable. We’d love to welcome you back anytime!

Amazing!
We had amazing time at the cabin and in the area! Beautiful surrounding and a lot to do! House is very cozy and has everything one would need. Host is very nice and they provide a lot of information about things to do in a very convenient way. We will be back!
We absolutely loved this beautiful charming clean mountain house. The lake and wilderness were so peaceful and the deer so friendly! Highly recommended this hidden gem if your looking for some serenity. We never even turned on the Television once!
This adorable property was perfect. 10 minutes from Bethel Woods. Canoeing on a pretty little lake with the houses Canoe located on the lake. The Swedish decor was perfect The owners information packets were clear with house how tos and local info. Highly recommend !
This a lovely place, very well maintained and with everything you need. We especially appreciated all the water toys that were available! The owners were very easy to reach and responsive to any questions. There are two things we think prospective renters should know: 1) the bedroom with the king bed is upstairs with no bathroom. We needed the larger bed, but it was a little nerve-racking going down the short but steep staircase at night to use the bathroom; 2) Although there are lakes nearby, the property is not on one and doesn't have a view of one. All that said, we'd certainly recommend this if those issues don't matter to you.

Refreshing stay
My niece, daughter, and I had the pleasure of staying at the Original Bungalow for a weekend, and it was a cherished and memorable experience. It provided the perfect opportunity to unplug and reconnect with each other and nature. The surrounding area is rich with activities and sights that kept us engaged throughout our stay.
The bungalow itself exceeded our expectations. It was immaculate and exuded a cozy charm that made us feel right at home. As someone with high standards for cleanliness, I often find myself cleaning before settling in, but that was entirely unnecessary here. The attention to detail was evident in every corner.
The thoughtful touches truly enhanced our stay. From the enchanting string lights in the backyard to the comfortable slippers and robes, every aspect was designed with guest comfort in mind. The abundance of hooks for towels, strategically placed nightlights, and easily accessible outlets added to the convenience and ease of our stay.
Overall, our weekend at the Original Bungalow was a delightful retreat, and we can't wait to return.
Had a nice little getaway to the Catskills for the weekend. Owner was accommodating and answered all questions that I had very quickly. Checkin and check out was quick and easy all instructions were in my email so there was no questions on what needed to be done. Would recommend someone looking to go up to the Catskills to book this place for a quick getaway.
So happy we stayed here - adorable, clean & comfortable cabin! 10/10!
We’re so happy we picked Mountain Lake Bungalow and Smallwood for our upstate getaway - what a fantastic house and place! The home is beautifully designed, comfortable, and super clean. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you could think of and the beds are very comfy - we slept so well. Smallwood is quaint and peaceful and we really enjoyed using their canoe and paddle boards on the lake. The house is conveniently located close to Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, several scenic hikes, as well as excellent restaurants and cafes. We can highly recommend Java Coffee Roasting Company, 3575 Kitchen, and The Local Table and Tap. We will definitely be back!

Hi! I'm Melinda, your Vrbo host and owner of boutique short and mid-term rentals The Original Bungalow, The Treehouse Bungalow, The Brooklyn Inn, and The Florida Bungalow - find us on IG at boutiquerentals_
I also work as an independent publicist and interior designer. I grew up in Sweden but have lived in NYC since the early 2000s.
I'm excited to share my Catskills and Florida bungalows + Brooklyn condo with the Vrbo community!
Why they chose this property
I love the walkability of Smallwood - the house is within walking distance of the beautiful lake, beach, waterfall, and forest reserve with hiking trails. It reminded me of my native Sweden and that’s what inspired me to go for a Scandinavian aesthetic when I designed and furnished it. I wanted to create a little piece of Sweden in the Catskills!
I love to explore and have created an extensive guide that I share with our guests.
What makes this property unique

Unlike hotels and 'professional host vacation rentals,' our spaces offer more character and charm, and we take pride in providing a personalized and special experience. We are always ready to answer your questions and ensure a 5-star stay. We strive to offer you more than just a place to stay; we want our rentals to be your canvas for creating new memories.
