About this property
Real stone cabin, wake to million dollar views, abundant wildlife...
Secluded cabin with magnificent views of the Bitteroot range, Lake Como, and star filled nights from the outdoor hot tub or indoor walk-in jetted tub. Wildlife including elk, deer, bear, foxes, and lions are your neighbors. The cabin is only 12 miles from Hamilton proper, but the peaceful, quiet, remoteness make you feel this is your own private world. The property is surround by thousands of acres of National Forest and can hike for days. There are many animals that pass through/live on the property, giving our guest the opportunity to observe several in their natural habitat. The ability to reconnect with that little bit of wild, frontier spirit that lives in all of us all while enjoying the creature comforts of our modern world.
Our magical cabin is located on TOP of a mountain ridge, there are some steep and prolonged grades on a gravel/dirt road. The road is wide enough for two full size pick ups to pass, with wider areas throughout the 4 mile trip. The road is not suburban nor a state maintained but marked with signs.
As my nephews, from the east coast, are so fond of saying "Montana is not a nanny state". They spent many of their adolescent summers hiking, exploring, and fishing from the cabin as a base "camp". The same opportunity is now open to you and your family.

Craig,
Very glad you enjoyed our wonderful cabin. Happy you were able to use the wood stove and wake up to the snow-covered peaks. I hope the hot tub soothed the sore muscles after the hikes picking huckleberries. Please keep us in mind your next visit to western Montana.

JD,
I am very glad you liked your stay at the cabin and the beautiful views. I hope you enjoyed the sunsets from the hot tub with your favorite beverages. The mountain goats were an amazing stroke of luck, you missed them at Glacier so they came down to see you.
Please keep us in mind your next trip to beautiful SW Montana and Bitterroot valley.

Craig,
I am glad you and your wife enjoyed relaxing at the cabin. I am happy you liked the outdoor hot tub and the peaceful environment. I look forward to your next stay here. April/May is a wonderful time, most of the snow is gone, everything is green, and the wildflowers are starting to bloom. (There were two deer under the ramp the afternoon you left and a red fox chasing a chipmunk around the rock wall that evening.)

Property is very remote with a breathtaking view. Kirk, the cabin caretaker, was outstanding. He consistently provided amenities that were so useful during our stay but was never intrusive in any way. He was genuinely concerned that our 17 night stay was fabulous and it most definitely was! Will stay here again for sure.
The property was just beautiful and the view even better. Just when we didn’t think it could get any better we met our host. One of the nicest people you will ever meet and did everything he could to make our stay enjoyable and that we had all we needed.

Glenn, I am very glad you enjoyed your stay at our wonderful property. The day after you left, the passes got 6+" of new snow and have a "small" 2" at the cabin. The snow capped mountain peaks have a beautiful glow at sunrise, and against a bright blue sky is a wonderful view to enjoy your morning coffee. The trout (browns/rainbows) fishing is very good in October for your trip next year.
Kirk
Great place for a week if you like the mountains and getting away from civilization a bit.
Great spot if you don't mind having a few neighbors and a mountain drive up to the cabin. Over all great and wonderful spot and views.

Shawn,
Glad you enjoyed your quiet stay. I am sorry your wife did not like the ride on the rural mountain road to cabin on the top. I thought she would feel more comfortable after her first trip. I will continue working with the HOA to improve the road for your next visit our beautiful, quiet, mountain top cabin.
Fantastic sunrise and sunset. Cabin is fully equipped and Kirk was very helpful for hiking info.

Patrick, I am glad you enjoyed your stay and the natural beauty of the area. The sunrise glow on the Bitteroot range is a wonderful way to start the day enjoying your morning coffee. Watching the sunset from the deck, or hot tub, with your favorite beverage is the perfect close after a day hiking, fishing, rafting, or skiing.
Thank you again for choosing Arcadia and please consider us your next visit to this wonderful part of the world.

Words can't really describe the beauty of the location. The home overlooked scenic granite peaks with a lake at their base. The hot tub was wonderful! We appreciated the host's knowledge of nearby hikes and activities as well as his willingness to answer questions quickly. We look forward to staying there again in the near future.

Bruce, glad you appreciated the natural beauty of this very special place. The hot tub in the morning is a nice treat or the all time favorite, watching the sunset with your favorite beverage. Spring, Apr/May is my favorite time for your return visit. Everything is green, snow on the mountain tops, enjoyable during the day and fire in the wood stove at night. I look forward to your next visit.

Truly off the beaten path and away from it all. Secluded and surrounded by miles of National Forest (and wildlife) with a breathtaking view of the Bitterroot Mountains and the peaceful sounds of nature. So nice to recharge a few days. The property manager, Kirk was super accommodating/helpful. Book your stay. Be sure to stop for groceries on the way (in your SUV), then unplug and enjoy!!

Thank you Christine. I am glad you enjoyed your serene stay in the cabin. Yes, not convenient for frequent trips to the grocery store or local watering holes; but ideal to unplug, relax, and recharge.
SUV, :D :D , yes required in January, or after a heavy snow in December, spring through early winter any rental car is fine.
I look forward to your next relaxing stay; maybe ski season in the best powder, with the shortest lift lines in the rockies.
Kirk
We were completely blown away by the incredible views. The pictures from the listing were accurate but they just couldn’t capture the beauty! Kirk was great! He provided us with local things to do and great suggestions for hiking/biking/rafting. He was just a call/text away with anything we needed. The hot tub and the walk-in jetted tub were awesome to have after days out exploring. We will absolutely be back for an extended stay next time.
Thank you Kirk for a wonderful experience!

I am very glad you enjoyed your "short" stay. Next year with your longer stay hopefully you will be able to enjoy a rafting trip and perhaps a horseback ride to a beautiful lake for some fly fishing.
Kirk
Amazing, beautiful & clean cabin! I will never forget falling to sleep next to a crackling fire and waking up to one of the most spectacular views in Montana. Pretty much sat in the hot tub and sipped amazing wine for 4 days. Perfect getaway for some tired Montana parents. Host & property manager were very helpful. I'll be back next year for sure! Thank you Kirk! XOXO

SaVenna,
I am very happy you relaxed, enjoyed, and recharged at our special cabin. I am also torn between the views waking and the hot tub soaking; add a good wine and the hot tub wins. I look forward to your next visit.

This property is so incredible! It has been 3 years since we have been able to see our daughter and being able to stay at a place like this just made the even even more special. Kirk was so amazing. He was quick to respond and offer suggestions. Incredible is not even enough to describe how amazing this experience and place was. We loved the fire and the views it was so incredibly homey!

(Sandra),
Thank you for your comments. I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Very happy you liked the glass front wood stove in the bedroom, it does make the time that much more special. I look forward to your next visit to this wonderful part of the world, in our magical cabin.
Kirk
Great place to stay. Property manager was great to work with and gave very helpful
And detailed instructions to get to the place. He also gave ideas of where to go to snowshoe and hike. The only thing you should be aware of is that you have to exit the building and walk around the house to the hot tub. Not a big deal but a little harder to deal with in the winter. Other than that the place is exactly what we were looking for! Would highly recommend.

Heather, Very glad you enjoyed your stay in our special cabin. Yes, I need to make access to the hot tub more "user friendly" in the winter. It is very relaxing after a day of hiking, skiing or just because. I appreciate your feedback, understanding, and look forward to your snowshoe trip next winter.
Kirk
My wife and I enjoyed our honeymoon here. The beautiful mountain view was our favorite part. It is a nice, cozy, peaceful place. The host offered excellent service; he always was quick to respond to any questions or concerns we had. We felt we were well taken care of. The pictures provided accurately portray what the house looks like inside. There are 3houses in sight in between the trees, but we didn’t feel a compromise in privacy beyond when we needed to go outside and around the building in order to get to the hot tub. The road up is a difficult one. You definitely NEED 4 wheel drive and excellent winter tires in the winter. Chains are very helpful. Take the drive up seriously (coming from a Canadian farmer). We enjoyed our time and would recommend it!

Carter,
Very glad you enjoyed your honeymoon at our special cabin. Yes, the road can be a challenge; especially in the winter, but is responsible for the peaceful serenity and privacy of this beautiful location. Please keep us in mind for your anniversary or a spring visit with the blooming wildflowers.
Kirk
This property is unique. It is well off the beaten path, so if you want quiet, peaceful, solitude (which we did) this is the place for you. The view was amazing and different everyday. The home was very clean, the design choices and workmanship were a little odd but didn't detract from the beauty and tranquility of this place. I cannot remember when I have slept so good, it was beautifully dark and quiet. There were rain storms during most of our visit, which added to the beauty for us. We watched the lightning from the bed every night. The hot tub was a nice treat even though we only got to enjoy it once because of the weather. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes and appliances but only salt and pepper so make sure to bring any extras you might want. The town of Hamilton is fun, make sure you explore downtown, the ice cream/ donut shop and the amazing farmer's market on Saturdays. This was our first trip to Montana and Kirk's hospitality and beautiful home made it something we will not forget.

Beth, I am very glad you enjoyed the peaceful solitude of our magical cabin. The darkness allows for awesome views of the meteorite showers the time of year you were here, but the lightening is a close second. I am happy you enjoyed the farmers market, I will now add community and cultural activities to the recommended events. I have neglected these in the past in favor of the outdoor/nature items. I hope you enjoyed the deer that passed the cabin every morning, including the 8 point buck still in velvet. We do not keep spices/condiments in the cabin to keep our guest safe from the potential of adulterated products, I am sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Please keep Arcadia in mind your second trip to Montana, I will "try" :) to arrange more sunny, dry days, usually common the first week in August.
Kirk
Any quirks of this cabin are far outweighed by the majestic views of MT mountains and hiking through the local NF. Was the second part of my 1st trip to MT and the views, tranquility and outdoor beauty was spectacular. Being able to hike from my doorstep into thousands of National Forest acreage was fantastic- saw plenty of deer along with many highways of elk, mountainlion, bobcat and bear tracks 🐻🦌!
Being my first trip to Montana, when Kirk said “plan accordingly” for getting car chains, there’s no way to put his reco into context. I have driven in heavy snow before, was driving up around Glacier NF the week before with no issues but none of above prepared me for tackling Bitterroot mtn roads. The rental company couldn’t rent chains (actually said they didn’t allow chains to be used), so I used my prior weeks success to boost my resolve- HA! While Kirk’s friend Vince was a lifesaver calling me to help navigate, I had to go back down to town and retry the next day (with four chains from local tire shop- rental policy be damned). Bottom line, if there’s snow in the valley, get chains in town before attempting to climb up and do not try the trek after dusk. It’s a dirt /snow/ice covered single lane road, sketch signs, no guardrails, 100’ drop-offs, blind turns (both on ‘flats’ and coming around steep inclines)- definitely not for the meek. When you see locals using chains- there’s your sign. Use em, too.
Like I said before, the cabin location allows for stunning views and hiking to the NF. The heated floors are fantastic, the ‘toto’ toilet reminded me of home, great views from all rooms and the 360 outdoor lighting appreciated. Some of the interior made you just tilt your head and wonder but you’re there to go outside anyway. The one feature I wish I was able to use more than once was the hot tub on the lower deck. House layout allowed for access through the lower level (closed for construction) and Kirk’s path from the front entrance couldn’t be found in the snow (and it’s a pretty steep hill). After slipping & sliding both down/up to tub from the main entrance, I only used it once.
The cabin was clean & had the basics… Kirk was responsive to texts during our stay and was a gracious host. There are about ten houses along this road (most are fair weather hunting cabins). I enjoyed the solitude & the beautiful outdoors surrounding this cabin. I look forward to spending more time in Montana & hope to return here!

Katherine, I am glad you enjoyed the quirks of the cabin, despite the challenging first attempt. Even after driving the road for twenty years, I still put chains on my locked (all 4 wheels pulling, all the time mode) Jeep during the winter months. Yes, I "highly recommend", "strongly encourage" actions based on my experience but do not "dictate" to adults in a non work environment. I am sorry I was not there to keep the "snow path" to the hot tub shoveled, I will have come up with a solution for that.
Yes, the community is made up of good neighbors, most full time year round residents, that understand the challenges of living "on top" of a mountain; so when an expected guest/friend/neighbor is late; misses the sunset from the hot tub with a favorite beverage, the St. Bernards are called.
I am glad you got to "interact" with some of the four legged neighbors and witnessed others in their natural environment.
Thank you for your comments and suggestions. I look forward to your next visit and will personalize hiking suggestions to my favorites in SW Montana.
Kirk
Had a great time for our anniversary. Kirk was easy to contact and very friendly. The view was gorgeous, the hot tub was hot, and the bath tub was glorious for relaxation. The only things that I was a little disappointed in was accessing the hot tub, and I wish there had been more than salt and pepper in the cabinet. Everything else was great!

K***,
I am very glad you enjoyed your stay with us and the fresh, property raised products. I look forward to your next visit. I am sorry there was not additional "food products" other than salt and pepper in the cabin. To keep our guest safe, all dishes, flatware, utensils are washed and sanitized between visits. We cannot insure the same level hygiene with other items used for food preparation or open/partially used products. (eg: spices, condiments, wraps)
