VRBO'S RECENT CHANGES NOW REQUIRE THIS CUMBERSOME EXPERIENCE We simply need to learn about your gathering to ensure our home will meet your needs.
Please ignore Vrbo's language about no refunds... their system won't remove it. The rental agreement we both will sign will be in force and includes our standard cancellation policy, which we provide upon request -- and always before a payment is submitted.
A word about our Rates. Vrbo's format of their Rates section makes it impractical for us to input every possible rate combination for 365 days a year. The rates that Vrbo automatically provides are sometimes incorrect. We provide exact quotes in our responses. Pricing for the Pontoon Boating Pkg is provided when we respond to inquiries. An administrative fee of 3% applies to Vrbo reservations as well as the State of Michigan 6% "Use Tax."
From June through late August we are only able to accept 7-night, Sunday to Sunday reservations.
Need a little more sleeping capaciy? We have 2 new upscale short term rental apartments just a mile away that are priced very competitively. The Duet has 2-BRs, 2-BAs (Vrbo #4663879 - $145/night+6% tax+$45 cleaning fee + Vrbo fee) and The Trio has 3-BRs, 2-BAs (Vrbo #4663698 - $195/night + 6% tax + $45 cleaning fee + Vrbo fee).

This property includes a lakefront lot with a private beach, porch and boat dock reserved for Guests that's a 150-foot stroll from the main house down a path through the trees (the main house is 75 feet and across a quiet dead-end street from the lake.)
**A unique feature of the property is its optional lakeside Log Cabin with a private beach, porch and boat dock reserved for Guests which is just a 150-foot stroll from the main house down a path through the trees (the main house is 75 feet and across a quiet dead-end street from the lake). It makes for a very convenient "pool house" right at the water's edge.
ACCESSIBILITY
A concrete parking pad gently slopes up to the front door to allow one to exit a vehicle on a hard surface and enter the house with zero steps. The following ground floor rooms are wheelchair accessible: LR, DR, Kitchen, Breakfast Nook, Gathering-Game Room, 1st Floor BR-BA Suite in the Guest Quarters Wing with its ADA-compliant full BA with 3x5 roll-in shower. Also both front and rear decks overlooking Stone Lake are wheelchair accessible.
BICYCLES & TRAILS Included with every reservation are 12 bicycles (mix of child and adult sizes) for our Guests to ride on the trails in the 50 acres of woods -- and through the residential areas of the Village of Cassopolis for those who like to admire the many grand turn-of-the-century homes that are sprinkled throughout. Bring your bike helmets!
PLAYFIELDS The Woodlands Lodge property also includes access to our two 10,000ft² level, grassy playfields, perfect for throwing a frisbee, tossing a football or baseball around, playing a game of whiffle ball, badminton, volley ball, etc. These two playfields are private, just for Guests of our four lodges on Stone Lake. Also, as of Summer 2023, both playfields feature a "Sports Equipment Shed" filled with frisbees, dodge balls, footballs, tennis balls, wiffle balls, and loads of other fun gear. No need to haul your own toys, just take a short walk to the playfield and let the games begin!
THE LOG CABIN The lakefront Amish-built western red cedar Log Cabin (optional for an add'l fee Jan. - May and Sept. - Dec.; it is included in the pricing June - August) is part of the property and sits directly on Stone Lake (built April 2009). The 15' x 22' Log Cabin features a full BA, a Kitchenette, a cozy Little Great Room with a soaring 18-foot high cathedral ceiling, a gas fireplace, and a sectional sofa. The Loft overlooks the open great room and has a Queen bed with a memory foam topper -- very comfy. The cabin has a 60-inch ceiling fan, central heat & AC (ductless unit with 2 head units), and a 13 cu ft fridge to keep your beverages cold -- right at the water's edge.
PONTOON BOATING PACKAGE Most all of our warm-weather Guests enjoy reserving our Pontoon Boat Pkg. It really opens up a whole new world to be able to get out on the lake - the little ones just love playing 'captain' steering the boat -- and it makes for a great mobile swimming platform. Sunsets are glorious and it's so peaceful to be out in the middle of Stone Lake and just slowly drift and watch the waterfowl, birds, etc. And if anyone likes to fish - that's what Stone Lake is famous for! We include (actually require) in the rental of the Pontoon Boat a personal orientation session by a qualified boating instructor so that the Pontoon can be operated safely and with confidence; fuel and life jackets are provided. Included at no add'l cost with the Pontoon Boat Pkg are 7 sit-on-top Kayaks (5 adults, 2 child), plus a 6'x17' floating "Lilly Pad."
For Guests with children who love to vacation with other families, it's a fun, comfortable and unique property.

Fantastic space for large family. We had 19 family members stay for the weekend to celebrate a 60th bday. This clean home had plenty of room for all to eat, relax, play and sleep. The weather allowed us to enjoy the great outdoor space this place has to offer! We even saw deer on our walk on the trails. Host were great communicators and would def stay here again!
Ted (the host) was very pleasant to work with! Everything was a very good experience. The house was very well put together, and it felt extremely welcoming. We had all amenities that we needed, and ended up having a great time at the place. It's also very close to the town, and you can get any groceries for your stay within a 3 minute drive from the house. If given the opportunity, would definitely stay again!
The hosts were very accommodating. They clearly have done this before and were very professional. The house was in great condition and we had everything we could possibly need.Natural Gas grill and the firepit were huge hits on our weekend. I would highly recommend this location and our group of 18 will definitely be looking at doing it here again next year.
Ted was outstanding to work with during the entire process leading up to and during the stay. Loved the home overlooking Stone Lake, but at the same time being secluded and private. All 12 of us (6 couples) thoroughly enjoyed our 4 nights here. 47 acres of trails and open spaces to spend time on and explore. Kitchen was well stocked. Great game room and outdoor decks. Would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a place in tho part of the country.
Wonderful accommodations for a large extended family of all ages!
We enjoyed the Thanksgiving weekend with our large family and found the multiple bedrooms, baths and places and spaces to hang out or eat perfect for all ages!
Had a great time at Woodlands Lodge. Pontoon boat is a must to enjoy the peaceful small lake. Made use of the gas grill, the smoker and the fire pit. Getting my son’s wheelchair up to the fire pit was challenging and took three strong adults, we were able to get him to the lake by driving him down to the lakeside road. Our granddaughter loved to hang out by the swing set, Kitchen was very well equipped with all necessary appliances as well as dishware and utensils!
The house met all our needs as a large family! There was plenty to do especially on the property and plenty of space for the kids to run around and enjoy. The host was very responsive and helpful with any questions that we had.
We had a family reunion of 17 people. There was something for every age group. We loved the beach area for the kids and renting the pontoon boat was such fun. There was enough room for everyone and having 8 bathrooms was wonderful! We particularly loved the big playing field in the woods, it was a magical spot with a shed full of games and balls and frisbees. We rent a cottage every year and several family members said this was their favorite cottage to date.
Really great experience, Ted & Christian were great to work with and very professional. The house is in a great location, has great amenities, and was perfect for a weekend with a big group. Highly recommended!
We had a wonderful weekend! This property was gorgeous and there was so much to do! The outside spaces were perfect for our family to gather and the inside had plenty of space. The kids loved the game room and open field. Definitely would recommend and book again!
Very happy with the stay, everything was clean , exterior needs a little refreshing, plenty of room for the whole family, awesome view of the lake. I can only imagine the fun you’d have in the summer with all the kayaking and pontoon boat, we rented the end of February
Large property with fantastic accomodations. The owners answered questions quickly which made our stay excellent. Everyone had a wonderful experience even in the winter, a small but excellent ski hill, Swiss Valley, is only 20 minutes away.
Everything about this trip was great!!!! Check in, the amenities, the location and especially the accommodations. This trip was everything we expected and more. Only warmer weather would have made this a better experience. We are already planning to come back with more family.

About the host
Hosted by Ted Gogol
In the early 1980s we moved away from Michigan for jobs, settling in Maryland near Washington, DC where we raised our two wonderful children. As empty nesters, in the summer of 2008, we started what we thought would be a 5-year search for our dream retirement home back in Michigan, on a lake, halfway between Chicago and Detroit -- where all of Brenda's family have homes. In our very first house-hunting trip in June 2008 we came across this property; it exceeded our expectations in every conceivable way. It's a dream come true for us that in one short year has become a mecca for family gatherings and memories that are simply priceless. We hope you too will consider building your own lifetime memories at Stone Lake. -- Ted & Brenda
Why they chose this property
Cassopolis, MI with its two lakes -- Stone Lake and Diamond Lake -- is halfway between Chicago & Detroit. The Chicago suburb of Naperville, IL, and Dearborn, MI, are both just 2 hours 10 minutes away. We know because Brenda has sisters in both of these locales.
What makes this property unique
Here's what's most unique: The privacy and tranquility of a secluded wooded retreat with a 8-BR, 8-BA, 3,900 sq. ft. wheelchair-friendly home with central air conditioning and a floor plan that's ideally arranged to accommodate multiple families. One bedroom is a ground floor barrier-free BR-BA suite that includes a 3 x 5 roll-in shower with maneuvering room). Throw in a private dock attached to the 'guest house' lakeside log cabin and even more folks can join in on the fun -- all with comfortable accommodations. The icing on the cake? The Lake House is surrounded by 47 wooded acres with trails great for exploring nature...and we provide 8 various-size mountain bikes. And there's more! For water fun the available Pontoon Boat Pkg adds a pontoon boat (10gals fuel included), 7 Kayaks (5 adult, 2 child), a 6x17' floating "Lily pad", and water toys. At night and for rainy days the 450 sq ft Gathering-Game Room provides lots of entertainment with a pool table, ping pong table, foosball table, 85' LCD flat screen w/ built-in JBL audio system, 4 leather sofas, Bistro tables and bar stools...and a 2nd full-size fridge to keep the beverages cold and convenient!
