About this property

Glamping with sheep in a renovated 1972 Ace camper on 48 acres

Introducing Gertrude! This sweet 1972 Ace Camper is fully renovated and thoughtfully outfitted: just the thing for a simple stay in nature at Hurricane Hill, our beautiful, 48-acre historic fiber farm. Lounge in the the hammock, put your feet up around the fire pit, clean up in the outdoor shower, grill on the Weber and dance to our curated collection of 70's hits (or stream your own favorites) ....then sleep like a baby. The camper and its "yard" are both well thought through, so you will be glamping more than camping and we are nearby if you need anything at all to make your stay better. Despite our seclusion, we are actually really close to 95, 295, TF Green Airport and, of course, the ever compelling City of Providence. We are so excited to add Gertrude to our farm stay offerings! Please see our other on-farm listing to find out how we host (since we don't have any reviews of Gertrude yet). NOT self check-in. PLEASE NOTE: WE HAVE A 4 NIGHT MAXIMUM STAY

Hi, I am Drake - I own and manage Hurricane Hill Farm with my husband, artist Wright Deter. We love hosting and have been doing so for a number of years now-first with our cottage and most recently with our vintage camper. We also love sharing our 48 acre, historic, conservation fiber farm with guests-our farm is too lovely to keep just to ourselves.

I'm an archaeologist/anthropologist by training-my focus was on race, gender and identity in the ante-and post-bellum South. I'm also a former non-profit leader in the arts and humanities. These days, I'm dedicated to restoring our farm to its rightful place-something now referred to as "re-wilding." Ask me about it!

Why they chose this property

Our farm sits on the land of the Narragansett who chose our area for its waterways and other natural resources. Our acreage was first domesticated by an 18th century family named Baker-after the land was taken from its indigenous people. At one time the Baker Farm was hundreds of acres-today we own 48 of these original acres, some of it traversed by an underground waterline that takes water to Providence. Other acreage was taken for highway construction (best witnessed by the inaccessible third of an acre I own on the other side of 295!). We bought this land in 2014 and have dedicated ourselves to its care and restoration. Staying here is an opportunity to exhale-to hear the birdsong and the coyotes' calls, to pause and consider how we all might best care for the world around us.
