About this property

A Country Retreat with Pool and Spacious Grounds

Enjoy this updated Colonial on 4.6 acres of pastoral lands with sun-filled living spaces and verdant grounds to help you relax and re-focus. Well-appointed spaces and amenities make it easy to feel at home and be entertained. A chef's kitchen features a large center island and sliding doors that lead to an open deck for dining, relaxation or star gazing. Minutes away from pick your-own orchards, restaurants, art centers, bike paths, and trails. 30 min drive to zipline/ski resorts. Only 2.2 hrs from NYC, 30 mins from Albany.

Our 4 BR, 3.5 bath rural getaway is a cherished home that we are happy to share with other conscientious families.

MAIN LIVING AREAS:
A bright, open living room overlooking verdant grounds welcomes you. You’ll find separate sitting areas for TV, reading, or group activities like puzzles, cards, Monopoly, chess, Scrabble, etc. Bluetooth speakers are available to stream your own music, enjoy the use of our turntable, or enjoy a night of karaoke! Powder room on 1st floor. Dining table seats 8.

KITCHEN
We enjoy preparing meals in the chef’s kitchen with a large island that seats 6 and a separate window seating nook that everyone just gravitates towards. They say the kitchen is the heart of the home, and this kitchen is easy to love! Outdoor meal set up is easy with direct access to the deck.

Planning a celebratory meal during your stay? Let us know in advance and we can refer you to a private chef who can provide an exceptional at-home experience with dishes tailored to your preferences and even take care of tidying up the kitchen to give you more time to relax and enjoy. (Cost of private chef services are handled separately and directly between guest and chef.)

2nd FLOOR:
4 bedrooms, 2 full baths (En suite Master bath features a shower and a jetted tub), and laundry/workroom occupy the 2nd floor. 3 rooms feature comfortable chairs and desks that facilitate remote working.

BASEMENT:
Serious ping-pong matches have been had in the basement! A full bath with walk-out access to the deck and pool area allow for easy clean up after a swim.

OUTDOOR SPACE:
Enjoy the rural views from the open deck while enjoying meals on the outdoor dining area, or simply nature watch. You may see small painted turtles peeking through the 3/4-acre pond surface, white egrets, herons, ducks, and geese. Relax or have a good workout in the 40-ft in-ground pool (open from Memorial Day weekend through Sept.) and replenish with food you can prepare at the Tiki bar with a gas grill. We invite guests to walk along the low grass to enjoy the open grounds with a succession of blooms and a wildflower meadow in progress. Please note there is no swimming allowed in the pond and children must be supervised.

For security purposes, we use outdoor surveillance cameras to monitor the front door, basement door, car port, pond, and pool area.

We are constantly sprucing up our home and continue to add more furnishings and amenities. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions!

Beautiful pool and property
The Pond House is a spacious 4 BR, .3.5 bath home with ample living and play areas, beautiful sun-lit well-supplied kitchen (we cooked the whole week) and large, clean pool, set on a large lot with plenty of room for football, Frisbee and dining al fresco. Patricia was an excellent host, responding immediately to any messages and providing lots of information about the area. Would return to this property in the future.

About the host

My family and I live in the city where we enjoy city conveniences but we also love retreating to our second home to get away from the hustle and bustle. I enjoy good food, traveling, hiking, and am a novice gardener. My husband and I feel lucky to have found this property nestled in the peaceful and friendly town of Kinderhook and have slowly furnished it not only to suit our needs but to also host extended family and friends. Although we are new to Vrbo hosting, rest assured we will do our best to make your stay comfortable and memorable. As occasional Vrbo guests ourselves, we understand the importance of cleanliness and convenient amenities. We look forward to welcoming guests from all walks of life, so pack your bags and come on over to the Pond House!

Why they chose this property

This property is situated in the agricultural area of Valatie ("vah-lay-sha"), within the town of Kinderhook. The house is nestled between pastureland and corn fields but only minutes away from Main St., local attractions, and other conveniences (food shopping, pharmacies).
Kinderhook is one of the most historically significant places in the Hudson Valley. The name Kinderhook appeared on Dutch maps as early as 1614 making it one of the oldest names in the state. It is also the birthplace of Martin Van Buren, the 8th president. The initials of his nickname OK - from "Old Kinderhook" - was used as a symbol to support his presidential candidacy. Today, Kinderhook has a growing creative economy and a steadfast group of volunteers that pitch in with everything from the summer farmers’ market to its annual holiday Candlelight Night. And it’s a great place to enjoy the outdoors, no matter your fitness level.
